Centvrión/Eterno, CMLL/NJPW, AAA in Cozumel (and on regional Televisa), Pirata Morgan

IWRG (THU) 01/19/2012 Arena Naucalpan [Estrellas del Ring, The Gladiatores]
1) Astro de Plata & Astro Rey Jr. b Pacto Negro & Súper Black
Astro Rey Jr. replaced Eragon. Straight fall win for the Astros.
2) Golden Magic, Oficial Rayan, Oficial Spartan b Gemelo Fantastico I, Gemelo Fantastico II, Kortiz
3) Alan Extreme, Black Terry, Bombero Infernal DQ Saruman, Tony Rivera, Veneno
Veneno mistakenly karate chopped the ref for the DQ.
4) Apolo Estrada Jr., Carta Brava Jr., Máscara Año 2000 Jr. b Angelico, Dinamic Black, Tritón
5) Centvrión, Negro Navarro, Ultramán Jr. b Eterno, Imposible, X-Fly
Tecnicos took 2/3. Centvrión challenged Eterno for his title(s) after the match.

Triton was telling people he’d gained the right to use the name from CMLL. CMLL’s Triton is next scheduled Tuesday in Guadalajara, and we’ll see if anything’s changed. Given CMLL’s reluctance to give up the NWA name, I wouldn’t expect much.

Today’s Arena Mexico show is highlighted by the return of the Blue Panther vs Casas Brothers feud. They’ve been running the feud in Puebla since Panther returned from ‘suspension’, but this is the first time they’ll all be together back at the scene o f the hair match. Guerreros and Atlantida meet again in the semifinal, after the tecnico champions took the win a couple weeks ago without much trouble. It’ll be interesting to see what they set up for next week here; the national parajes increibles tournament usually happens around this time and there’s usually a couple weeks of hype ahead of it, but there’s been no mention of it quite yet.

Later today in Japan (and overnight at 3AM CT) is the first of the two CMLL NJPW FantasticMania shows. The main event of the first show is La Sombra & Tanahashi vs Volador Jr. & Okada, building up both the Sombra/Volador title match on day two, and the Tanhashi/Okada title match on the next NJPW show. Okada did not impress in his big return match, but hopefully he’ll be better here. CMLL mentioned the guys on this trip left at 6AM Thursday morning, with a stop over in Dallas. Hope they got some sleep along the way.

AAA’s first taping of this year is this Saturday. Yesterday, they announced the second would be a couple weeks later, February 3, on the island of Cozumel. This is their first time taping on the island, just having run smaller shows before and tapings on the mainland in nearby Cancun previously. The 3rd is a Friday, which often means they’ll also be taping on Sunday as well. AAA used to tape in Merida, not that far away, but it’s 0ne of the cities dropped when they’ve pulled closer to Mexico City the last couple of years. A return would on 02/05 would make sense.

AAA has a mention about AAA being on regional, though their note lists it as overlapping the main show (again). It does say AAA’s airing GdT on the main channel and Chilpanico on regional, so Regional is the one you probably want to see. I just assume that if you’re reading this blog, you’ve got access to YouTube or my download links and have seen the PPV. No one seem to know when the regional show is truly on – in Juarez, the timeslot AAA lists the show is actually a Santo movie of all things – and it’s not (yet?) listed on the GDL Canal 4’s, the version that’s carried on SKY that would reach the most people. It’s an AAA’s benefit to over saturate their fans with the information on this show.

Pirata Morgan says he’s retiring…in three years. Hijo de Pirata Morgan will take over for him, and Pirata says people tell him Hijo de Pirata is like going in a time machine and seeing Pirata Sr. at the same age. Pirata Sr. is really not giving himself enough credit. Pirata says he’ll be headed to Las Vegas in February for a six month stint working for Lucha Va Voom. They run in Los Angeles – but maybe this was the other Vegas lucha show people were trying to put together?

In Llaves and Candados, Silencio feels both Monterrey and Nuevo Leon have good wrestlers, Misionero wants to raise the name of the Coliseo luchadors, and Rey Orion talks about an upcoming cruiserweight tournament.

Follow up from yesterday: was CMLL so concerned about people wearing unusual masks and outfits when they had Mr. Niebla dressing up as different characters for the different ticket promos the last few months?

Rob has highlights of the 06/09/11 Naucalpan.

  1. Aaa on juarez regional usually airs at 11 pm mt every week, but there’s the occasional time where it starts 15 mins late, or like last week, where it started at midnight
