Puebla, IWRG/FIL, Todo x el Todo, Panther

Programing Notes

We’ll have live coverage of both the CMLL and AAA shows tomorrow night. The live chat can be found right here and should start around 8:30 pm CT. I’ll have live results there and on Twitter. We should have live audio from the CMLL show (via radiocmll.com) and we should have something for the AAA show as well.

I’ll be on Figure Four Daily later today previewing both shows. It’s a subscriber only show.

The Arena Puebla tumblr has highlights from last week’s show.

I’m not exactly sure how the IWRG FIL vs other school shows was laid out, but both recaps mention the final came down to the Villanos and IWRG. The group of Saurman, Astro Rey, and Triton beat Negro Casasola, Bizarro and Kortiz when Black Terry fouled Negro; Villano IV and V had been interfering earlier. Black Terry and Villano IV agreed to a mask vs hair mask in the aftermath.

Black Terry Jr. has video up of a couple of the matches

3) Cadillac, Morfeo, Pegasus Kid vs Centurión, Hijo del Pantera,

Other News

I know the Todo x el Todo show is today (not Saturday), because Dorian Roldan is trolling El Hijo del Santo on Twitter. Santo trashing AAA in a Yahoo interview stirred this up again; Santo says AAA killed the wrestling business by being too WWE like. We need more serious wrestling that includes dancing Star Wars creatures. In stuff more directly related to the show, Kaiser Sports, which seems to have stopped covering CMLL, has the participants talking up the matches in interviews. Rayo’s demanding Hijo de Cien Caras put up his mask for their next match.

Lots of coverage of Panther’s not quite suspension. Estrellas del Ring has the video of Panther apologizing about it to the commission and their decision. We did get an updated list of the current commissioners out of this: Gustavo Zavaleta (the one often seen at CMLL), Jorge Gómez Garnica (the one cited with overturning the LA Park/La Parka finish), José Luis Mendieta (Rambo), Dr. Horacio Ramírez Mercado (ringside doctor at Mexico City boxing matches), and El Fantasma. CMLL com posted video of Panther from Friday, where he did not seem quite as apologetic. R de Rudo is the only site to point out the oddness of the suspension timing. Blue Panther is now preparing for the match, but is ready for Felino to go for revenge. Blue Panther & Felino will be doing a video chat today at 5pm.

CMLL.com also has videos of Marco’s return and the trios champs declaring they’ll keep the titles (while wearing three way fused masks.)

Marco Corleone has a goal: win the CMLL Heavyweight Championship. I sure hope he gets a title match against, uh, wait, hmm, uh, I’m sure they’ll figure this out any day now.

Negro Casas, wearing a neck brace and having some glassy eyes, says he’s still rehabbing hard to make Friday’s show. He’s not sure if he’ll be cleared.

AAA is doing a lot of local press to hype up Guerra de Titanes. Not a lot to link to (when there is, it’s nothing that hasn’t been linked to before), but plenty of TV appearances and occasional parades. Estrellas del Ring posted a recap of last week’s press conference – at least there, Texano and Toscano acted like they were representatives of CMLL rather than members of Perros del Mal.

Rob has highlights of 01/14/11 CMLL, the last Friday show for Mistico.

top six stories of the last two weeks

  1. Guerra de Titanes will feature Dr. Wagner Jr. vs LA Park for the Latin American title, based on long running personal issues between the two. The card also continues the Perro Aguayo vs Jack Evans issue, includes more TNA wrestlers coming into face AAA ones, and a winner must be put thru a flaming table match.
  2. CMLL’s Sin Piedad, held the same day 90 minutes to the west, features Blue Panther vs Felino in a mano y mano hair match. There’s bigger stakes involved, but the build has not been on strong (and has most recently been seen on Fox Sports, not Televisa.) Panther had been suspended earlier in the week for giving Negro Casas a martinete, but the suspension has been postponed until after the hair match. The card also features Atlantis’s trio vs the Invasors for the national trios titles, a feud that has prominently featured Tirantes.
  3. Toscano became the fourth wrestler to publically leave CMLL for AAA/Perros del Mal. He’s not thought to be the last to make that move. Marco Corleone, last seen on Lucha Libre USA, was announced as returning to CMLL starting at Sin Piedad
  4. Shocker disappeared from CMLL and has been awkardly written out of storylines. He’s rumored to have been told he was not wrestling on Sin Piedad and walked out. Meanwhile, his proteges Titan & Triton have lost every match since their debut.
  5. Cibernetico returned to AAA TV. He was teased as a new Sociedad member, turned on them, and was eventually laid out by the rudos.
  6. Daga, Dinastia and La Magnifica won the AAA QPPC talent search contest and got contracts with the promotion.
  • Todo x Todo holds it’s year end show today, building it around five different title matches (none of which are great draws.)
  • Ultimo Guerrero cleanly defeated Jushin Lyger in Lyger’s last match with the promotion for the time being. Lyger spent last year mostly beating the tecnicos in big matches, and mostly lost to the rudos this time thru.
  • DTU & Perros del Mal both held anniversary shows featuring LA Park. LA Park vs Perro Jr. was tease for next year.
  • Hermano Muerte I Jr. lost his mask, just days after Hermano Muerte I passed away.
  • Dinamitas Juniors won the IWRG trios titles.
  • Luna Magica & Zeuxis won the REINA tag team titles
  • Tiger will replace Texano in TRT.
  • In IWRG, Bugambilia del Norte won Eterno’s hair, then lost his own thanks to Eterno
  • people who kept their titles: Virus, La Mascara

Blue Panther suspended (eventually), how much does el Dandy weigh?, rapidly forgotten storylines

CMLL (TUE) 12/13/2011 Arena Mexico [CMLL]
1) Cholo & Zayco b Freesbe & Robin
2) Molotov, Sensei, Starman b Bronco, Camorra, Ramstein
Sensei had a right knee injury after the win.
3) Cancerbero, Raziel, Virus b Ángel Azteca Jr., Dragon Lee, Fuego
4) Hijo del Fantasma, Metro, Stuka Jr. b Misterioso Jr., Pólvora, Tiger
Tiger moves up in level, loses.
5) Ángel de Oro, La Máscara, La Sombra b Dragón Rojo Jr., Terrible, Último Guerrero
clean win for Sombra & Mascara.

No results from the IWRG trainee show yet, though it looks like there was another Villano vs IWRG issue.

Other News

Yesterday was Blue Panther’s meeting with the Mexico Lucha Commission about giving Negro a martinete on Friday. Blue Panther defended himself by explaining he just got really mad and caught up in the moment, but did not plan to piledriver Negro. They must’ve had more reporters in the office than actual commissioners, because Fantasma ended the meeting by announcing another meeting with the rest of the commissioners to decide Panther’s punishment. That meeting is Wednesday (today!), but Panther is suspended until then. Felino is quoted as agreeing with the punishment, saying Panther should know better since he was injured by Love Machine doing the same move.

Today, the commission announced it’s decision: Blue Panther is suspended for two weeks, but the suspension will not be enforced until after Sin Piedad. Panther had already signed for the match, and the commission didn’t want to defraud the public. Panther will wrestle Felino on Friday, and then be off during the holidays, until New Year’s Day. A harsh punishment! If Panther loses his hair on Sin Piedad, it’ll be well on it’s way back by the time anyone sees him again (assuming this suspension is honored outside of Mexico City.)

Tuesday was a busy day for press conferences. Todos x el Todos held public weigh ins for their title matches this Saturday. Only one person seems to have actually reported the weights, which I guess tell you how seriously anyone took it. (Also, some people still think Demon is defending the NWA title.)

WWA Welterweight: Hijo del Santo (c) (73 kg) vs Angel Blanco Jr. (78 kg)
WWA Heavyweight: Rayo de Jalisco (c) (123 kg) vs Hijo del Cien Caras (113)
FLMM Masters: Solar (c) (89 kg) vs Dandy (98 kg)
PWR Heavyweight: Blue Demon Jr. (c) (90 kg) vs Villano IV (85 kg)
NWA Mini: Mascarita Plateada (c) (48 kg) vs Lobito – no weight given, apparently not at the press conference, does not appear to exist outside his participation in this match.

The weigh ins are part of the push to be Serious Wrestling. They had Fantasma there as commission representative to show how serious they were taking it. The weight only really mattered for the Welterweight title; the limit there was 78, and both made it. There’s sort of a heavyweight minimum of 97 kg for heavyweight, but minimums have never been enforced. Shouldn’t they have measured Mascarita Plateada with measuring tape, since the limit there is height? Funnier picture at least.

Todo x el Todo also announced a lottery to decide title match order, which will take place befor the minis match (which won’t be in the lottery.) It doesn’t help the Santo show to be running their next show a day after AAA & CMLL run their big ones, but there doesn’t seem to be as much interest in this one as the first, and there wasn’t a lot interest in that show.

There was also a press conference for a Festival Luchistica, taking place this weekend at Expo Reforma.

Rob has highlights of early January 1994 AAA.

Lineups

CMLL (TUE) 12/20/2011 Arena Mexico
1) Enrique Vera Jr. & Soberano Jr. vs Apocalipsis & Bobby Zavala
2) Eléctrico, Fantasy, Último Dragoncito vs Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito
3) Rey Cometa, Titán, Triton vs Hooligan, Loco Max, Skándalo
4) Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Metro vs Felino, Negro Casas, Rey Escorpion
5) Ángel de Oro, Atlantis, Rush vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Mr. Águila, Volador Jr.

The last time we saw Delta, Guerrero Maya and Metro together, Metro walked off on his teammates, because he was feuding with them and allied with Titan & Triton. That aspect of the feud has not been touched on since, and maybe this is an indication it’s been dropped. Or forgot? Same difference.

There are good matches here. If only the can get people to care about them.

CMLL (TUE) 12/20/2011 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Meteoro vs Relampago
2) Hombre Bala Jr. & Super Halcon Jr. vs Ángel del Mal & Infierno
3) Bam Bam vs Demus 3:16
4) Dalis la Caribeña, Luna Mágica, Marcela vs Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit, Tiffany
5) Hijo del Fantasma, Máximo, Valiente vs Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Último Guerrero

A show! I guess Tiger has better things to do.
