1) Hooligan & Inquisidor b Metálico & Soberano Jr.

Okumura won in 8:29 via brainbuster

Tecnicos won 2/3 in spectacular form.

Turn out seemed low for this one.

Other News

Ras de Lona had Ultimo Guerrero, Shocker, Mr. Niebla, Volador all talking about their feuds with Atlantis. Shocker’s still upset about Atlantis stealing Delta & Maya away from him. Second most amusing part of the show was them talking about UG’s trip to NJPW – JCR doing the “otra nivel” catchphrase as we’re shown UG laying on the mat, obviously having just been beaten.

Most amusing part of the show was Mima asking for Mexican men who’d be interested in dating her to email in (luchas@mvs.com), and then talking Ayumi and Ray into the same deal. This was part of an interview with the entire Japanese contigent; Lyger was asked about his son, who has says is a fan of wrestling but not going to be a wrestler. Lyger says he too is a fan of lucha libre, but not actually wrestling – he likes to watch matches like Silueta vs Ray. This segment ended with Lyger dancing again. He’s the best.

Also on the show, Amapola  counted off all her defenses

  • 3 vs Lady Apache
  • 1 vs Princesa Blanca (in Panama)
  • 1 vs Luna Magica
  • 1 vs Lluvia (“un excelente lucha, Lluvia! [WINK]”)
  • vs Dark Angel at Arena  Coliseo
  • vs Estrelltia at Arena Mexico
  • vs Marcela
which somehow gets her to 26.

Daga says he’s depressed about all the losses he took on the last IWL tour, which is why he’s giving up their Junior belt and considering stepping away from lucha libre for right now. He will be on the 10/22 show and discuss it with IWL then. It does occur to me now that IWL has one singles champion and ran five shows, and he never got around to defending his belt on any of those shows. Might have made him feel better.

Angel de Plata will be out a couple weeks with a leg injury.

El Hijo del Santo opened an art exhibit (including his own paintings, of course) to celebrate his 29th anniversary of lucha libre. Santo noted a lot of his fans there were around his same age, which is actually quite the problem him for right now. Regardless, Hijo del Santo says 2012 will be a big year for Santo & Hijo del Santo.

Guerrero Maya, Delta, Dragon Lee, and Horus visited the elderly. Probably a good sign that Dragon Lee is OK.

The 11/01 Arena Aficion show has a intergender ruleta de la muerte. I think the person who appears to be a character from a Disney movie will lose. Io Shirai & Nosawa are in to wrestle on the ex-WWE tour coming up as well.

LuchaWorld has Ras de Lona from two weeks ago.

Lucha Libre in Japan

10/22: 6) {G1 tAG} Tetsuya Naito [O] & Tomoaki Honma b Strong Man & Tama Tonga [X]

Strong Man hasn’t been in CMLL since the end of July. His team starts the tournament 0-1 and is really no threat of winning.

Lineups

3) Ayumi, Estrella Mágica, Luna Mágica vs La Seductora, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit
4) Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Rey Escorpion, Último Guerrero

Nuevos Guerreros vs Campeones Justicieros feud is back. Ras de Lona had Atlantis & UG talking up their break up again.

The Magicas are still around!

CMLL (FRI) 10/28/2011 Arena Mexico
1) Metálico & Molotov vs Disturbio & Hooligan
2) Ángel Azteca, Ángel de Plata, Pegasso vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Loco Max, Skándalo
3) Amapola vs Marcela [CMLL WOMEN]
4) Dragon Lee, Sangre Azteca, Valiente vs Shigeo Okumura, Virus, Yoshihashi
5) Blue Panther, Jushin Lyger, Rush vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas
6) Héctor Garza, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto

Main event rematch, semimain builds off last week, and they’ve done that title match a time or two. Would expect this week’s main event to set up a title match next week.

I have a feeling Rey Cometa is hurt and Pegasso is taking his matches, because the opposite happened when Pegasso was hurt (and CMLL never really mentioned it for many weeks.) Hope I’m wrong.

  1. Speaking of that Arena Aficion show it appears Boris Karloff’s Frankenstein Monster is working against a Predator in the semi-main

  2. You know what would cure Daga’s depression? A date with Mima Shimoda! See how I just intertwined two headlines and fixed a problem!

  3. A date with Mima Shimoda can fix a lot of problems, if ya know what I mean…. *nod nod wink wink nudge nudge*

  4. It’s not exactly surprising to hear that one of the guys on the IWL shows is disgruntled with their terrible booking.

  5. “Turn out seemed low for this one.”

Uhhh… yeah. The video on cmll.com of the main event even has many visible empty seats in the background which is rare b/c by main event time everyone is usually moved up to make it look good. Yikes. That picture Cesar posted (taken during the especial) makes me wonder if they even had 5,000. Looks like a Tuesday type crowd.

Those lineups don’t exactly leave any hope for things getting better. Some scary looking matches next week (in particuarly the C3 segunda & women). One can only hope CMLL isn’t doing their usual build to nowhere and this is in fact all heading to an 11/4 show with a hair match on top and trios titles semi-main.

  6. @Rob: Would they do a hair match so soon after Anniversario, and this close to the year end show? If they are saving Panther/Casas, wouldn’t it be for something closer to, say, 12/9?

  7. @Nikita: Perhaps… you can never be 100% sure with CMLL. But word going around is those inside CMLL are actually (shockingly) aware of the unhappiness of their hardcore fans stemming from the bomb of an Anniversary Show. Combine that with CMLL believing for a while now that they will see an increase in attendance due to their new reality show (which debuted tonight) and they may put it to a test next Friday.

  8. @Rob: Gotta love a promotion that expects an increase in attendance due to a reality show but sees no correlation between their actual wrestling shows and attendance. Or worse, still suspects that there is an inverse relationship between the two.

  9. I think Infermas is angry we’re being so mean to CMLL.

Quick – someone say something nice about a promotion that drew a less than half house for their biggest show of the year and had their lowest attendance of the year yesterday! GO!

  10. I’ve watched today a Atlantis/Volador from this weekend and a Grupo Alfa vs Grupo Bravo from June, and boy is CMLL much more fun to watch in front of an arena (more) full of people who care about the show.

  11. Did anyone get to see the A&E show? I thought I’d be watching it now, but my cable guide seems to be wrong.

  12. @Rob: Lol u really think i do say things cos of what u say cmon ur not the most wise opinion i could read, so nope is not about u as u believe it is. You funny

  13. CMLL has had more matches I enjoyed this year, then in the last couple of years. That is all I really care about

  14. @Phil: I generally agree with that. I want the promotions that I enjoy and support to do well though, so that they may continue to bring me excellent wrestling in the future. Plus, the more successful promotions there are, regardless of where, the more options there are for wrestlers like myself and the guys I train/mentor.

  15. @Nikita:

I suppose, but CMLL isn’t going out of business. It isn’t like rooting for a tiny indy to draw 200 so they can run next week. CMLL isn’t going anywhere

  16. I still think the wrestling is generally good to excellent in CMLL. Rarely do you see complete stinkers. My problem lies with the booking and people in charge of the company who do harm to the company that could be way more successful than they are.

No matter how much good we say about CMLL guys like Infermas will only show up the minute we say something negative and claim everyone is against CMLL. The typical overly defensive CMLL fan.

  17. @Rob: hahaha i didnt say a thing and u go crazy, thinkin im against what u say or anything please, i get here to read other opinions like cubs or nikita which i respect and i like what they say good or bad, but cmon ur the one who in the moment i say something whatever it is think is against u, honest im not against what u say and i dont really read what u say also so easy.

  18. CMLL has had a lot of great matches this year, but one of the problems to me is that they could be doing so much more.

  19. The Sunday afternoon ACM show was back this week, but all the matches aired had previously aired on other shows.
