CMLL (TUE) 10/18/2011 Arena Mexico [CMLL, Kaiser Sports (3), Kaiser Sports (others), Record]
1) Mercurio, Pequeño Universo 2000, Pequeño Warrior b Aereo, Fantasy, Pequeño Halcón
2) Ángel de Plata, Dragon Lee, Pegasso DQ Arkángel de la Muerte, Loco Max, Skándalo
Tuareg paid tribute to Dr. X before the match. Tecnicos took 2/3. Angel de Plata replaced Rey Cometa, who’s now missed two straight shows. Dragon Lee wiped himself out on a dive, was stretchered out, and the rudos ripped off the masks of both tecnicos.
3) Silueta b Ray [CMLL REINA IJ]
Upset! New Champion! Seconds where Marcela & Ayumi. Siluta took 1/3 won via superplex.
4) Ángel de Oro, Black Warrior, Delta DQ Misterioso Jr., Rey Escorpion, Vangelis
Rey Escorpion tried to pull Delta’s mask and cradle him, but did not get away with it. No Warrior storm off here.
5) La Sombra, Rush, Super Porky b Averno, Dragón Rojo Jr., Mr. Niebla
Tecnicos took 2/3.

Guadalajara Silueta compared her title win to those winning gold medals in Guadalajara right now. Maybe that’s the idea? (Though then they probably should’ve done it in Guadalajara.)

In Queretaro, Atlantis fouled Ultimo Guerrero to win the main event tag match.

Back on Sunday, Coco Azul & Negro Navarro beat Rocky Santana & Villano IV in Arena Lopez Mateos when the clown snuck in a foul on Santana. Coco Azul was a fill in for Scorpio Jr.

Other News

La Catedral says Hijo de LA Park, Bestia 666, and Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. were invited to try out for WWE this past Saturday, all on the recommendation of Rey Misterio Jr. (who’s friends with all their fathers.) The same site says Zumbi  sort of invited himself, which is normally not the way to go. WWE really wants to get into Brazil, and someone who speaks Portuguese might get a longer look.

Enrique Yniesta says all but one CMLL luchador who tried out for WWE was accepted. Sad for someone. By accepted, that probably means they were offered developmental deals, but would have to move to Florida.

No word if any one accepted; it’ll be a while either way, since there’s probably work visa paper work to be done if they do go. The only person from CMLL who appears to have vanished is Rey Cometa, but that just as much be an injury that hasn’t been reported as anything to do with this.

Dorian, in Orlando, and the Jarretts have been hyping big plans for the future on Twitter. More Velvet Sky matches?

Fans in Arena Coliseo Guadalajara are rightly upset that there has not been a moment of applause for Dr. X on any of the shows there in the last week. They were planning to have their own remembrance last night.

AAA and indy wrestlers attended a press conference to hype the FULL Tinieblas-led show on 11/12. The main event is an atomicos (with Parka on the tecnico side and Chavo Guerrero Jr. coming into work the rudo side), but the majority of the show is a massive tournament that only appears to be half explained. Battle royal to determine both singles and tag matches, which maybe is an elimination bit, but someone becomes Titanes en el Ring. Tinieblas talked to the Gladiatores about the show.

AAA has been hyping a big statement from Octagon about his turn, teasing it having to to do with Joaquin Roldan. Octagon was at the press conference for this FULL show, so the Gladiatores just went up and asked him themselves. Octagon explains Joaquin Roldan is ruining his career by never putting him on TV. A decent reason.

Lucha POP announced they’ll run a show on 01/21 in Chicago. A lucha promotion was bound to find out where I live and come for revenge. (I think I’ll go.) Actually, the bigger problem is people from Mexico coming to Chicago in January. The weather here has just switched over to miserable, and it’ll be 40 degrees colder by the time this show happens. You don’t want to travel to Chicago in January.

CMLL held a press event to hype the premiere of their A&E El Luchador series. It kicks off this Saturday, and the previews look interesting. Magnus was not there; that recap says he was busy with a commitment in the US. (???)

El Hijo del Santo posted the poster for Todos x el Todos on 11/03. Luchadors, though not matches. Seems like they’re teasing the Solitario/Santo match Santo’s been building for a while, but if they were doing mask vs mask, you’d think they put it on the poster. Mano Negra, who retired about five days ago, is shown on the poster.

Pompin reached 54 years of wrestling on Wednesday.

Rob has highlights of 10/11/10 Puebla and June 97 AAA .

AJPW 10/19: Joe Doering [O], Ozz, Cuervo b Kenzo, Kaz Hayashi, Bushi [X]

  1. I’m going to guess that AAA will soon be free of their LLUSA representation deal and able to work with TNA.

I know WON reported that Spike would not allow TNA to show the AAA title on television or mention them. That makes sense but I’m sure the LLUSA deal would also prevent recognition and AAA sending talent to Orlando. I’m pretty sure the LLUSA deal is why AAA talent has not appeared on TNA.

With Prichard having influence instead of Russo, that would be good for any plans with luchadors or a TNA/AAA agreement.

  2. so why does aaa need to work with tna anyways? are they that desparate? tna is a joke with zero upside and upward mobility. i don’t see how they help with anything. prichard’s involvement means nothing. he already has heat with people and looking at tna’s recent shows they are still putrid.

  3. If they bring the Navarro family, I could see Lucha POP getting me to Chicago in January. If they do either a Traumas v. Navarro/Terry rematch or a Trauma 1 v. Navarro singles I will buy up a row of tickets and stretch out.

  4. @Rob: I think Shimmer’s off until March? They’re practiced enough to know not to try to fly people in and out of Illinois during January, for fear of a blizzard or ice storm costing you some unrefundable tickets.

I’m still thinking more it’s Samurai bringing, say, Daga to GALLI or AAW and it being a LuchaPOP showcase. But I think we’d have the same level of skepticism for any lucha promotion that says they’re coming to the US until the first match actually starts

  5. @LLL: I think neither, they just haven’t had any plans for him. He’s listed on the IWL show this weekend, we may find out then.

  6. Don’t mock Siluetita dude. She’s doing a good job and she’s putting a lot of effort. She was a bit protected at the title contender match, but did a great finish. I need to see this match against Ray this Saturday to have a better judgement.

  7. @thecubsfan: You are being sarcastic:

“Upset! New Champion! Seconds where Marcela & Ayumi.”

“Guadalajara Silueta compared her title win to those winning gold medals in Guadalajara right now. Maybe that’s the idea? (Though then they probably should’ve done it in Guadalajara.)”

You are implying she can’t win by her own and needed a scripted match.

  8. Cubs used some type of mathematical formula to determine that Silueta couldn’t win the title in Guadalajara and had better odds of winning in Arena Mexico with her odds greatly increasing if A) Marcela was her second and B) if the match was scripted with a result in her favor.

  9. @LLL: The only AAA guys in Lucha Libre USA right now is Charly Manson and Lizmark Jr. whom both have not been in AAA for sometime. Charly with his legal troubles and Lizmark for being Lizmark.

  10. @mkpunk:

I may have some facts wrong here but I’ll give it a shot.

AAA originally signed a multi year deal with cookie jar entertainment which is the company that Lucha Libre USA is owned by. They (AAA) signed a multi year deal with Cookie Jar to have events promoted in the us. AAA ran a few shows that pretty much bombed and then no more.

It has no tie to the current wrestlers being used by Lucha Libre USA, it’s the promotion (AAA) as a whole that cannot be promoted in the US unless done by them (Cookie Jar/LLUSA)

  11. @Flashmagic: Yup. Although some of the shows did well. Las Vegas at The Orleans had a huge turnout. LA Sports Arena had 5,000+. San Jose did 6,000+. San Diego did bomb. Fresno and Sacramento each had around 2,500 which won’t pay the bills.

Cookie/LLUSA sold the tour to Marquez, a concert promoter who owns a dairy company called, “El Mexicano”. Marquez promoted his brands and the shows as a cross-promotion.

After LLUSA/Cookie and AAA all marked up the cost of talent, Marquez was guaranteed to lose money, especially in the smaller towns like Fresno.

If AAA was organized enough to do things on their own they could avoid middlemen and sell directly to local promoters like Marquez but after all these years, they have never been able to figure things out.

  12. Now that Silueta is CMLL/REINA champion, will there ever be a Universal Championship Tournament for the women?

I wish Rey Cometa was signed to a development deal by the WWE.

I agree with Cubs, somebody in Lucha POP is out to get him. It is probably the general manager who is out for revenge.

  13. I like how Arakas quietly disappeared from his discussion with Cubs and will pop back up any day now expecting us to take what he says seriously. A major failure… thy name is Arakas.

(For the record this reply has NOT been scripted!)

  14. @thecubsfan: Maybe you have been watching too much WWshit or Tits N’ Ass to think all other companies are the same.

I don’t see the point of a scripted match here. They are not building a PPV, a big feud or anything else. This is just a random match of two girls that people barely knows. Besides, what is the point in “send me one of your best wrestlers to job one of my worst wrestlers” and “my wrestlers will get your titles but your wrestlers not mines”? This will only make REINA look bad and get nothing.

I dont’ want any angry discussions, I need to see the match for myself to have a better judgement. I will only be surprised if Siluetita crushes Amapola in a title match and achieves something others find impossible.

@Rob: Angry creep, you are not just a stalker, you are an idiot! Don’t you have something else to do other than wanting to pick fights? Why don’t you harass César like usual or pick a fight with that fool mephisto89 that calls you “Extranjerito Pendejo” and you run away from him after he insults you?

  15. @Arakas: All match results are “scripted”. I don’t think you know what that word means. They are not actually going out there and fighting and holding each other down for three counts, not in any of the matches. ****Please acknowledge that you understand this before posting any more****

  16. @thecubsfan: Wrestling is fake and all results are predetermined. I think everybody knows that. What about minor promotions or local low rate shows where nobody gives a damn of who wins or loses? Are injuries also scripted? Am I to think that legit competition does not exist? What about all other sports, are they also scripted? Are the Olympic Games scripted? Are my comments scripted? (they are not) Yours? Have you ever wrestled someone? Was the match scripted?

  17. @Arakas:

Yes. The match was scripted. You seem to be arguing that the match was done for no particular reason. I disagree, because CMLL’s not doing anything with a REINA title without giving them a heads up and both agreeing on an idea on what’s next (see: how they handed the Lady Apache/PWR title.)

I can only assume this what you mean, because you’re doing a horrible job of explaining yourself. Had you been able to better in the first post, we wouldn’t have had this completely useless discussion.

You’ve done an appalling job explaining yourself though, because you don’t know what the word “scripted” means and you refused to admit it. I have no idea why, but I do know I’m really disappointed every time I get a new comment notification and it turns out to be one of yours. For someone who constantly shows up to criticize other people when you believe they’re wrong, you’ve never been able to admit bring wrong yourself. And you’ve been wrong many times.

Here’s the deal: you can just say “hey, I used the wrong word”, “I didn’t make my point well, sorry about that” or, alternatively, you can use the time you’ve spent commenting on this blog and find something else to spend that time on in the future.

  18. @Arakas: I like Cesar. I think he’s blind to certain truths about CMLL because he is biased but he has strong opinions and his blog is always an enjoyable read.

Mephisto89 is a troll (and racist but that’s beside the point). I can’t argue with him for the same reason you shouldn’t be arguing with Cubsfan – the language barrier. Just as my Spanish isn’t good enough to convey what I want in an argument, your English has obviously gotten you in a bad spot here. The difference, as noted by Cubs already, is that you refuse to give up and admit your error.

And since I know the ByL haters are following this thread I want to make special mention that yesterday Dr. Lucha noted that Cubs, Alfredo and myself HAVE OUR FINGER ON THE PULSE OF LUCHA LIBRE. There’s your top story of the next two weeks, Cubs.

  19. Just to be clear, Arakas did respond, but failed to meet the requirements asked upon him and so his comments aren’t going to be appearing anymore.
