recap

A pretty fun show.

Dalis la Caribeña, Estrellita, Marcela vs Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit: decent match with a notable blown finish. Dalis is doing more complicated stuff now, but she’s hit or miss on everything.

Dragon Lee

Dragon Lee & Magnus vs Puma King & Tiger in a lightning match: For a Magnus showcase, he totally got outshined by his partners. Dragon Lee is really the most up and down guy in the promotion, and really too often down to not be rejected by the fans, but at least he has some highlights. Magnus was just a guy in this match, and a guy who hurt his arm in such a random fashion that I wonder if it’s as much a storyline as the post match Tiger/Puma break up. (Which is the saddest thing ever if it’s permanent, because they’ve been used to about 10% of their potential.)

Cancerberos!

Diamante, Metal Blanco, Palacio Negro vs Cancerbero, Raziel, Yoshihashi: Usual Blanco/Negro vs Cancerbero’s nuttiness. The Guadalajara amigos looked good, Diamante was fine, and Yoshihashi didn’t get in the way. In a better world, this is part of a long feud over the Arena Coliseo Tag Team Titles, but I’ll take the trios matches.

Ángel de Oro, Máximo, Super Porky vs Averno, Mephisto, Pólvora: 8 minute match padded out to 16 minutes with an unsatisfying pointless finish. This didn’t look like it’d be anything and it definitely was not.

eye poke

Rush vs Mr. Águila for the CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship: Better than Rush/UG. Better than Bucanero/Aguila! (I can’t remember if it was better than UG/Bucanero, but I think probably not.) This broke from the CMLL formula in good ways – people were able to do multiple moves in a row in the third fall – and tested both guy’s endurance. They didn’t seem to exactly pass the test with flying colors and the match would’ve been probably better served being a couple minutes shorter, but it was still entertaining enough. Aguila has to get a lot of credit, though I would’ve liked it better if he wasn’t so visibly calling spots for much of the match. Cover your mouth!

  1. This was one of my favorite CMLL women’s matches of the year so far. Amapola looked really great in it, making Dallys’ spots look great and taking a nutty ringpost bump. Also really liked the lightning match. When Dragon hits his spots they look really spectacular, and this was amongst the best Puma/Tiger have looked. Thought Cancerbero/Raziel looked GREAT in their match, maybe best Cancerbero has looked all year. Liked Aguila’s pinfalls in the main, always doing something after a kickout like punching, elbowing, or eyepoking. Like something Finlay would do.
