CMLL Anniversario Main Event Signed (10 man cage match), return of Leyenda de Plata, and other notes

News from today’s press conference:

– The Anniversary show – September 30th, giving them another week to build it up – is a cage match, with 10 wrestlers.

  • Negro Casas
  • Felino
  • Rush
  • Blue Panther
  • Rey Bucanero
  • Terrible
  • Texano
  • Hector Garza
  • Maximo
  • Mr. Aguila

Exactly as suspected. The match was originally presented as Blue Panther & Rush vs Felino & Negro Casas, with everyone else demanding to be involved in turn. No Shocker, who tweeted he was working at his restaurant just as everyone was making challenges. Felino is the favorite to lose.

The rest of the card was not announced. Tickets are on sale. Cheap ones are 64 Mexico Pesos ($5), most expensive are 704 ($54 USD). That’s a cheaper low end ticket than usual for an Anniversary show.

The Leyenda de Plata is returning, and returning directly after the current tournament has finished. It’ll be a 24 (!) man tournament, with blocks on 09/23 and 09/30 and the final on 10/07.

Unless they’ve changed the formats again, that 09/30 block is going to be strange; a third of the roster will be in GDL for their cage match (just mentioned in passing here) and ten guys will be in the main event cage match. The best 12 man cibernetico I can came up with is La Máscara, Averno, Máscara Dorada, Mephisto, Dragón Rojo Jr., Brazo de Plata, Ephesto, Diamante, Rey Escorpion Negro Jr., Olímpico, Metro and Sangre Azteca (with Shocker, Strong Man, Stuka Jr. and Virus as alternatives.) I’d suspect minis and women’s matches also on the Anniversary if only because there won’t be that many men.

Previous tournaments have featured the winner defending the title in the final. Mistico won the last three, so that won’t be happening. Given CMLL’s current policy of cutting out Mistico, Santo and Perro from history whenever possible, the only former winners they will be hyping are Scorpio Jr. (great for him!), Negro Casas, Black Warrior, Felino and Atlantis.

With this tournament and the previous return of the Leyenda de Azul, CMLL’s switched from ignoring Demon & Santo to trying to annoy them. And this will.

– Atlantis & Guerrero Maya asked for a tag title rematch. Ultimo Guerrero refused, complained about Maya using the name Guerrero, and inisisted on a singles match with Atlantis. CMLL.com seems to skip the refusal/singles match part.

– Ray, the new CMLL-REINA International Juniors Women’s champion, will come to Mexico on September 26.

– There were also promos to hype Volador/Sombra and Warrior/Demus.

Puebla, Shocker, Trauma/Trauma

CMLL (MON) 09/12/2011 Arena Puebla [Cinco Radio]
4) Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Texano b Máximo, Rush, Super Porky
5) Hiroshi Tanahashi, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas b La Máscara, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada
Tanahashi beat Sombra. Fans were very into Peste Negra.

CMLL’s changed Friday’s cibernetico, dropping Toscano & Shocker from the match (making it 3 tecnicos on 5 rudos, though 2 are Peste Negra.) That would probably means they’ve been dropped from the Anniversary show. Shocker has missed some shows lately, though he was really active on his Twitter last night. Toscano was here to make up the numbers and shows up on the Puebla lineup.

Sexi Star has booked Trauma I vs Trauma II for the next Lucha POP show. She’s doing a great job.

There was a rumor northern Mexico wrestlers El Pulpo and Coliseo 2000 had been killed in a violent attack, but El Pulpo posted on the Lo Mejor board to confirm both were OK.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Rob is looking for some missing 1994 and 1995 AAA.

6) La Sombra vs Volador Jr. [NWA WELTER]

Uh. I’m writing this before I know what the anniversary show, but this is probably going to be the better show. CMLL.com even notes Sombra vs Volador was one of the best singles matches of the year, which they usually don’t do (especially for Puebla matches.)

Tickets are 20 to 140 pesos ($1.50 to $11 USD.)

CMLL is so dedicated to the Champions of Justice that Atlantis’ young parnters are wrestling 2 & 3 matches below them.
