CMLL (FRI) 08/12/2011 Arena Mexico [CMLL, La CatedralRecord]
1) Höruz & Trueno b Artillero & Súper Comando
Tecnicos took 1/3.
2) Dragon Lee, Pegasso, Rey Cometa b Arkángel de la Muerte, Hooligan, Loco Max
1/3 for tecnicos, Cometa getting Arkangel with a top rope ‘rana for the win.
3) Hijo del Fantasma, Sangre Azteca, Stuka Jr. b Misterioso Jr., Shigeo Okumura, Yoshihashi
Tecnicos took 2/3. Fantasma got Misterioso with the Ghost Lariat for the win.
4) Valiente DQ Rey Escorpion [lightning]
With time running out and both guys battling in the corner, Escorpion fouled Valiente and gave him a super powerbomb. Referee did not call the DQ until after the powerbomb. Valiente won, but was strechered out.
5) Averno, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas b Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr.
1/3 for rudos. Atlantis had Negro up in the Atlantida, but took out the referee with Negro’s legs. Niebla fouled Atlantis and got the pin.
6) Héctor Garza b Último Guerrero [CMLL HEAVY]
Title change! Seconds were Rey Escorpion and (interestingly) Hijo del Fantasma. Hector surprised UG to take the first fall, then got rolled up while taking off his shirt in the second fall. Hector took the third with a tornillo moonsault to win the title. Garza is the 16th champion.

Other News

Even though there’s no AAA TV taping this week, the Quien Pinta Para La Corona talent search is in Acapulco this weekend.

Ras de Lona had interviews with Hector Garza, Ultimo Guerrero, Atlantis and Shocker, kind of teasing four ways issues. Hmmmm.

Tiffany was interviewed, bad arm in a sling. She’s had her let shoulder braced in almost every match since coming into CMLL, but it finally went out catching dives in her last match. She’s had surgery, and will be out 2 to 3 months.

Volador’s bald head is just weird.

A politician speculated to be running for higher office held a press conference with the Mexico City Lucha Commission about providing better social protection (health insurance) for luchadors. This would be great if it was going anywhere.

El Encomista has a really good piece about the business of IWL. They make it sound as if they were losing a ton of money under old management and have stabilized things with Valerie in charge. She says they’ve reached 80 buys on iPPV.

LuchaWorld has the Ras de Lona from two weeks ago.
