Amapola & Averno keep their titles, Mr. Niebla wins Leyenda de Azul, Atlantis vs UG

CMLL (FRI) 07/29/2011 Arena Mexico [CMLL, La Catedral, Record (1-5), Record (6)]
1) Metálico & Starman b Bobby Zavala & Disturbio
Tecnicos took 1/3.
2) Mascarita Dorada, Pequeño Maximo, Shockercito b Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño Warrior
Tecnicos took 1/3.
3) Amapola b Estrellita [CMLL WOMEN]
The champ took 2/3 to keep the title. Estrellita left on a stretcher after taking a backcracker.
4) Mr. Niebla b Atlantis, Máximo, Rush, Héctor Garza, Blue Panther, Shocker, Terrible, Texano, Hijo del Fantasma, Rey Bucanero, Strong Man, Último Guerrero, Ángel de Oro, Psicosis, Metro [LdA, cibernetico]
Elimination order went Metro (via Psicosis), Psicosis (via Fantasma – with some accidental help from Hector Garza), Angel de Oro (Bucanero), Ultimo Guerrero (Strong Man), Strong Man (all of TRT with a powerbomb), Rey Bucanero (Shocker, thanks to T&T goofing up), Fantasma (Texano), Texano (Rush), Shocker & Terrible double pin, Blue Panther (Garza), Garza (Rush), Rush (Niebla), Maximo (Atlantis), and Mr. Niebla beat Atlantis clean to win it. Niebla was presented the plaque by Alejandro Munoz, the son of Blue Demon (who’s been feuding with Blue Demon Jr. for years; CMLL and Munoz obviously using each other to tweak Demon.)
5) Averno b La Máscara [NWA MIDDLE]
Averno took the first fall with the Devil’s Wings, Mascara tied it up with a a casita. Averno dropped Mascara with a top rope Devil’s Wings in the third, but Mascara kicked out. After more near falls, Texano (Averno’s second) tripped up Mascara from the outside. Brazo de Oro (Mascara’s second) jumped on the apron to complain, and Averno used the distract to foul Mascara. That got him the win. Averno challenged for Mascara’s singles title (Mex LH) and his mask afterwards.

Mr. Niebla has been on his best behavior since his latest return. No missed show, no reports of shows he would’ve been better off missing. I hope this win is indicative of a renewed and earned amount of trust being put in him.

Damian 666 is teasing Perro Jr.’s return to AAA tomorrow, where he’d interfere in the cage match just the exact same way he did back in December in Guerra de Titanes. (Clowns should be on the lookout for extra clowns.)

Record has a detailed article on the history of Arena Puebla. That location used to be a trash dump before the building existed, and those who run it say it used to be another kind of dump before they took over.

The movie featuring Elegido won the AAA/Lemon Films short film rally contest, which seems to prove you can actually have an entertaining 10 minute segment with Elegido. The description in this article – which focuses on the El Brazo movie – says Elegido’s one dealt with the relationship between the Mexican government and organized crime. Deeper that I would’ve figured (but judging panels dig mafia movies.)

Lucha Libre in Japan

07/30 NOAH: 2) Ricky Marvin & Rocky Marvin [O] b Aero Star & Jack Evans [X]

That might have been Rocky’s only direct win on the tour.

Looks like Sombra made it to Japan in one piece.

CMLL (FRI) 08/05/2011 Arena Mexico
1) Metálico & Starman vs Disturbio & Inquisidor
2) Bam Bam, Fantasy, Último Dragoncito vs Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito
3) Sangre Azteca vs Raziel [lightning]
4) Fuego, Metal Blanco, Palacio Negro vs Euforia, Hijo del Signo, Virus
5) Ángel de Oro, Delta, Shocker vs Ephesto, Mephisto, Pólvora
6) Dragón Rojo Jr., Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero vs Atlantis, Héctor Garza, La Máscara

THAT’s an interesting main event. Maybe not a good one (3/4 will take care of that) but – was the Atlantis/UG feuding at the expo the actual break up? That would be odd. Yet, here we are.

DTU (SAT) 08/13/2011 Arena Lopez Mateos

2) Arana de Plata vs Black Fire, Ciclope, Tacubo

Fuerte“. Mortiz’s debut with thie grou. He should fit in fine. Surprised Semental isn’t here too.

CMLL (SUN) 08/14/2011 Palacio de los Deportes, Bogota, Colombia
1) Delta & Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Hijo del Signo & Puma King
2) Arkángel de la Muerte & Skándalo vs Hijo del Fantasma & Sagrado

  1. The IWRG/DTU Sherry looked at least 30 lbs heavier than the Super X Girl. Lizzy Valentine should be more likely if she and Juvi did not break up.

  2. How can the main on 08/05 not be a good one? Niebla, Ultimo, Garza and La Mascara’s in the form of his career.

Bit better than watching Azteca dropkick Raziel in the balls 20 times in 10 mins

  3. Atlantis/Niebla at Anniversario? I wouldn’t think we have long enough to build to UG/Atlantis, and there has to be some kind of explanation for the Niebla push……

  4. That’s not Sherry nor Lizzy Valentine. She kinda looks like the girl that’s always with Juvi when he does press conferences or concerts in Mexico.

  5. You wouldn’t even believe what CMLL TV is starting with if I told you so I’ll save the reaction for the U.S. viewing.

  6. Well SOMEONE surely knew he was making TV before he came out for this match. Very impressive so far!

Still a little ridiculous though that this match is going to take up 30 minutes of television time on their main TV show.

  7. I can’t believe the opener made the main show. I see Bronco is doing the Ultimo Guerrero/Mil Mascaras diet.

  8. @Tim: It was only 5 or so in Mexico. U.S. Gala should really adapt to how much actual footage they get.

Really good show so far though. 3 for 3!

  9. @Rob:

Did they have the opening with the announcers before or after the first caida in Mexico?

It was a good match though. I like Enrique Vera Jr. but he’s really too bland to break out of the openers or even undercard.

  10. @Tim: After the first fall of the opener.

Looks like the Mexico version is running exactly 1:50 long so there shouldn’t be many commercials added to the U.S. version.

  11. Dueling women’s matches on the two shows and none feature Estrellita? Damn CMLL has too many women on the roster.

  12. Teleformula today aired:

    Demus 3:16 vs electrico
Amapola/Tiffany/Princesa Blanca vs Goya Kong/Lluvia/Luna Magica
    Okumura/Vangelis/Rey escorpion vs Delta/Diamante/Metro
