Rey Cometa vs Hijo del Signo in a lightning match: This felt like a time limit draw, but a Forjando un Idolo fifteen minute draw instead of the ten minute draw it ended up it being. There’s not a lot of lucha libre time limit draws to compare this to (duh!) but I’m used to US time limit draws featuring some more furious action near the end just before this finish. This match had a bit of a leisurely pace at the outset, trying to make sure they made it to ten, and they didn’t seem to pick it up in time. Left me wanting to see more, which is the general idea.
Metal Blanco, Palacio Negro, Valiente vs Misterioso Jr., Pólvora, Shigeo Okumura: basically another setup in the Pólvora/Valiente feuds, with the other four guys required to be filler. This was pretty good filler! Metal Blanco looked really good, Palacio Negro did crazy things that worked and crazy things that did not quite, so it was a usual day. Okumura and Misterioso weren’t the smoothest working with them, probably due to familiar than anything, but it still worked out well.
La Máscara, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto: At this point, I bet Averno finds it strange if a day goes by where he’s not toped by La Máscara into the first row. Up thru the second fall, I had a feeling of deja vu – this was the 52MX match with two different rudos – but things really differentiated in the third fall. The sequence after the dive – where they could’ve just done the finish but instead did two more minuets of hot action – is maybe what I was looking for in the lighting match. It really made this match seem like something special, something worth seeing next week!
