Lucha POP, Sin Cara, Japan

LUCHA POP (SUN) 07/17/2011 Arena Lopez Mateos [Al Filo del Ring, Estrellas del Ring, Televisa Deportes]
1) La Vaquerita b Lily Fighter, Shitara, Ashely, Vanely, Yuki Star, Keira [POP WOMEN]
Vaquerita beat Keira to win the new title.
2) Alex Guajardo & Impulso b Terremoto & Wotan
Everyone but Impulso wasn’t originally listed in this match. (No Dizzy.)
3) Zumbi DRAW Último Gladiador
Ultimo Gladiador gave Zumbi a top rope superplex, and neither man could get up before the 3 count. Dance Boy and Triabl showed up to make challenges after the match.
4) Dance Boy & Tribal b Celestial & Tóxico DF
5) Angelico & Fenix (AAA) b Dark Dragon & Shiima Xion
Angelico replaced Samuray del Sol. Double pin by the tecnicos. Double pin by the tecnicos for the win.
6) Joe Lider b Extreme Tiger
Lider Storm onto thumbtacks and glass fragments and such for the win.

There are handhelds of the semimain and main event on YouTube. Seems surprising that DTU champ Joe Lider ended up as the big star of this show too. Al Filo del Ring sounded lukewarm on the show; the people who go to these shows seem to go them for all hardcore all the time, and this was an attempt to do only one match of hardcore. It’ll take time to build a different audience, if it can be done.

Vaquerita talks about her win to Record. She was down to her last move to use before she finally won.

LyC (SUN) 07/17/2011 Arena Coliseo Monterrey [RFC]
Attendance: 4125
1) Principe Guerrero II b Lobo Rojo
2) Misionero b Epidemius, Demencia
3) Babe Fox, Lady Maravilla, Sexy Maciel b Gaviota Jr., Lady Puma, Mini Hator
4) Angel Dorado Jr., Golden Boy, Silencio b Androide, Hijo Del Mongol Chino, Rey Demonio Jr.
5) Neurosis & Simbolo CO Hijo del Ninja & Konnan Big
Konnan Big got counted out. This sets up Simbolo vs Konnan big, two Sundays from no

Worth noting because the building actually looks more full then the 3/4ths full reported. I had forgotten how Arena Coliseo Monterrey looks when there’s a decent amount of people in it. Konnan Big still seems to be a decent investment in Monterrey.

Sin Cara

This is what Dave Meltzer had to say about the Sin Cara future in the WWE, on last night’s Wrestling Observer Radio

Today, all day, everybody was under the impression that he was not coming back, and from what I heard tonight, it’s probable that he will not be coming back, but, you know, they may change their minds.

Dave said he does not know the exact reason, but believes “maybe there’s more than this than meets the eye”, because first time WWE drug policy violators are usually not fired.

Dave also noted TNA would have interest in picking Mistico up if he was cut loose. They want a Mexican star of their own. They tried putting Amazing Red under a mask as Sangriento, but people figured that out pretty quickly, so maybe an authentic luchador would work for them. (Very little actually works for TNA.) The TNA and AAA schedule is such that Mistico could work with both companies – maybe regularly with TNA and big shows with AAA – but it’d be unlikely Averno would be joining him in that situation. Averno’s not going anywhere if Mistico is done in WWE.

Cesar has a post on Sin Cara’s failure and future. I agree that Mistico would be damaged goods if he returned to Mexico after this. The best thing for his career Sin Cara’s career is to figure out what it would take for him to stay in WWE and try to turn things around there.

No Sin Cara on the SmackDown taping in October would make that all very awkward.

Other News

The deal with the Zorro mask is the rudos forced it the Iron Mask on him after the match (but I don’t think it’s frozen on him by sorcery this time.) What the Bizarros had been doing with their mask, basically. If you look at the photos in that article, there are some areas of that building that look near empty, and other sections that look totally full. It’s more full areas than not.

Lucha Libre in Japan

07/18 REINA

3) Tomoka Nakagawa & Seuxis (O) b Aki Kanbayashi & Senri Kuroki (X)
5) Ayumi Kurihara & Ray b Silueta & Dama de ?

Name still looks like “Dama de Iero”. Dama de Hierro was wrestling in Mexico this weekend, so it’s not here Joshi Fans theorized she might be Danah, daughter of Brazo de Plata who appeared on a Ras de Lona episode as Muneca de Plata but never had a match, but Danah seemed to be similar to Goya Kong’s body type and this one looks more like a taller Silueta. She’s got a metal/steel motif – maybe Dama de Acero? (I don’t know of anyone by that name.) One of the magazines will eventually clear this up. Seuxis intruded post match with a “Mexico es numero uno!” bit that that Japanese women did not appreciate, starting a show ending brawl. Silueta and Seuxis head home tomorrow.

4) Yoshihiro Takayama (O), Genba Hirayanagia b Ricky Marvin, Rocky Marvin (X)
6) JH Tag Tournament: KENTA (O) & Yoshinobu Kanemaru b Jack Evans (X) & Aerostar

Jack & Aero fall to 0-1. Awful lot of heavyweights beating junior heavyweights on the tour to spot light the smaller guys.
