Perros vs Piratas, Charly Manson, Averno exit date, IWL

IWRG (THU) 07/14/2011 Arena Naucalpan [Estrellas del Ring, Mi Lucha Libre (2), Mi Lucha Libre (3), Mi Lucha Libre (4), The Gladiatores]
1) Rolling Boy & Tritón b Alan Extreme & Imposible
Tecnicos took 1/3.
2) Golden Magic, Hijo de Black Man, Miss Gaviota b Keshin Black, King Drako, Polifacético
Hijo de Black Man debuted and looked good.
3) Angelico, Centurión, Multifacético b Barba Roja, Hijo de LA Park, Pirata Morgan Jr.
Centurion replaced Pantera, making a rare appearance this high on the card. Tecnicos took in straight falls, Hijo de LA Park losing to Multifacetico. Oficial 911, in a neck brace, ran out to attack him after the match, but Multifacetico nearly gave him a martinete again. Both vowed to win on Sunday.
4) Bestia 666 & Damián 666 b Máscara Año 2000 Jr. & Pantera and Trauma I & Trauma II and Hijo de Pirata Morgan & Pirata Morgan
Pantera replaced Hijo de Mascara Ano 2000. That team was first out, followed by the Traumas (Trauma II replacing Navarro.) Bestia and Damian used a ref distraction to work in a foul and a mask pull on the Morgans for the win. Perros challenged for the IWRG tag titles, but Pirata Sr. challenged them back to an atomicos match (all the Piratas vs Bestia/Damian/Halloween/X-Fly), where the Perros get a title shot if they win.

Multifacetico admits this feud has brought the rudo out of him, but blames it on being ganged up on. He’s going to appeal to the commission to prohibit AK47 and Fierro from being 911’s second, because they’ll just interfere if they’re out there. I’m not totally sure Multifacetico is winning this feud; he’s totally dominated it so far.

Other News

Charly Manson was brought in front of a judge on Wednesday, and could not make bail. He’ll be in jail for the time being, and they’re now saying his sentence could be four to eight years if he’s found guilty.

On yesterday’s Figure Four Daily podcast, Dr. Lucha mentioned Averno’s end date with CMLL now is next Saturday’s Lucha Libre Expo. WWE policy is all incoming wrestlers have to work their already contracted dates, and that one was agreed upon before Averno signed his WWE deal. (This means whatever happens tonight, Averno will be around for one more Friday. Betting it’s not a trios match.) I’m 0-2 on end date predictions so far, hoping this is not 0-3.

The other fascinating factoid from the podcast: the IWL iPPV reached triple digits in buys (“somewhere between 100 and 1000”). That’s obviously a lot more than I figured; it probably doesn’t add a lot to their bottom line, but indicates the market for this sorts of shows are stronger than I figured, or a lot of people will just buy anything with Mad Man Pondo. (Which explains why they’re talking about more US hardcore wrestlers for the next show.)

Tonight’s the first of what are supposed to be regularly scheduled Friday night shows in Arena Coliseo Guadalajara. The show itself is not interesting – this is one of those nights where Volador opposes the Invasors, instead of being on their team for equally random reasons – but it should indicate a change in format here. The local wrestlers have gotten less matches here in the last year, due to a higher emphasis on the national ones, but they are supposed to get Sunday shows all to themselves. It’s not happening this week, though. Running two full CMLL shows every Friday spread across the county makes scheduling a bit tougher.

There happens to be an AAA spot show in the area tonight, though it’s only a few women (and one Histeria) who are actually from AAA and appearing here. The big showdown is in two weeks, when Verano de Escandalo will be taking place cross town the same Friday night. That’s about the length of an average CMLL build, so perhaps tonight’s start date and card was engineered to set up a match or two for that 07/29 show.

The Arena Mexico show is the bigger show of the two this week.  There are two title matches tonight; CMLL last had a two title match in Arena Mexico in last October, where the World trios titles were also on the line. Generacion Dorada defended the titles about the Invasors that time, and I believe the Avenros have just as much a shot as Psicosis’ crew. The Mexican Welterweight match is a bit more up in the air. Polvora has been on a good role versus Valiente and previously in the Forjando un Idolo tournament, but Valiente’s already turned him back in one defense. Valiente’s already challenged Polvora to a mask match should he keep his title, and someone around here ought to start building to an Anniversary match.

I’ll be holding a chat here for that show. It should kick up around 8:30. I’ll try to post the IRC channel info too. Flash-addled users might be able to download an app and log in that way.

Electroshock says the Americans are too chatty for him to be fearful of them, so he’s not worried about Samoa Joe or Anderson (who he notes he beat.) Electroshock also points out a Konnan pattern of luring people in with big promises, then ultimately deceiving them – it’s happened to him, Mesias, Jack and now Zorro. That also sort of explains why AAA seems fine with taking in Zorro after all the evil he’s done – most of them did it too before they got turned on Konnan.

Rob checks out 12/27/10 Puebla.

Lucha Libre in Japan

07/15 NJPW: 4) MVP (O), Strong Man, Jushin Thunder Liger b Shinsuke Nakamura, Toru Yano, Hector Garza (X)
First pinfall loss for Garza on this tour.

07/15 SMASH: Veneno b Yuji Koto [SMASH Championship Tournament, round of 32] – post match comments sound as if Veneno will be back next month for his next tournament match. There was various wackiness involving Veneno, who seems to have been promoted from being an apostle of God to being God himself, the day before the show.

The NOAH tour with Aero and Jack kicks off Saturday.

2011 AAA TV Chart
Projected Air Date (#0999)
Mexico: 07/30 or 07/31 – same weekend as Verano de Escandalo.

Lineup via El Sol de Tulancingo.

No Perros, no TNA wrestlers. I think this card re-enforces the importance of the Orizaba card. All the important matches matches for Verano de Escandalo will be set up there, and this is more of a lame duck event that may round out a thing or two.

There is some mixing of people in slightly different feuds, though the main event seems focused on the perennial Wagner/Park rivalry and the Maniacos/ElectroMetal feud.

Charly being listed is a bit amazing, seeing as Charly is not actually free to work at the moment. Or free at all. Probably an old lineup and someone else (Billy) will be worked in.

Tercera has the best chance of being a good match on the show. A good rudo side for making the tecnico side look good.

Segunda tecnico side features one wrestler with impressive high flying moves and one who seems only here for their look. (It’s just kind of swapped from how most would figure.)

Mini Chessman is sort of filling in for Mini Histeria, who might be some place else at the moment. Back to back tapings for La Parkita is a bit eyecatching. He only appeared twice all of last year, and the year before that, and that year prior to that. (You have to go back to 2007 to find a year where he appeared four times.) Maybe this is it for Parkita, or maybe something’s up  – like all the other minis were busy.

52MX: a grab bag match and Invasors? vs Peste Negra.

LATV: since they aired the cibernetico this past week, perhaps finally the actual NWA LH title match? Maybe?

Teleformula: who knows. I double checked the website to make sure they didn’t pull it or something, and noticed they uploaded this week’s episode, as if it wasn’t a rerun. No one’s paying attention.

——

CMLL-Galavision: note that in the US, this is airing way late: 10 pm on the East Coast. It may or may not be shortened to 90 minutes, depending on where you check. Minis lightning match, Cancerberos (Polvora) vs lost tecnicos (Valiente) and Avernos vs Doradas.

AAA: This looks to have be shortened to 90-105 minutes. I don’t like the chances of the Fenix match surviving. Other matches include a women’s tag, Abyss returning in a hardcore trios, Wagner/Zorro vs Jarrett/Park, and part 3423 of Perros vs Psychos.

FOX: Women’s match, Guerreros vs Psycho Japanese Rocketmen. Noon this week.

C3: TRT vs Maximo, Rush, and Porky. If Fuego/Dr. X doesn’t do it for you, there is also Blanco/Negro/Stuka vs the three best Cancerberos.

Mega6: swing match is a women’s trios. Other matches that may never make it to Teleformula at this rate include Okumura/Gallo and Peste Negra vs Fantasma/Dorada/Aguila.

TVC Deportes: Yoshiashi vs Rush, the build, plus Invasors vs Sombra/Dorada/Maximo.

Monterrey: Hombre sin Miedo, Rey Demonio, Simbolo vs Dorada, Mascara Purpura, Sky
