IWRG (THU) 07/07/2011 Arena Naucalpan [Black Terry Jr. (flickr), Estrellas del Ring, The Gladiatores]
1) Rolling Boy & Tritón b Anubis & Keshin Black
First match for Anubis here since 2009, assuming it’s the same guy.
2) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro DQ Angelico, Black Terry, Multifacético
Straight falls for the Oficials when Multifacetico gave 911 a martinete for the DQ. Mask match is 10 days away. First match here for Angelico in a year and a half.
3) Trauma I b Hijo de LA Park [JUNIORS]
Plenty of mask ripping – Trauma I was pretty much wrestling unmasked by the end of this. Trauma I laid LA Park out with a cradle DDT in the third for the three count, though Hijo de LA Park visibly kicked out at 2.5. Everyone argued about it after the match.
4) Canek, Negro Navarro, Trauma II b Barba Roja, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan
Pirates took fall 1, Team Navarro took fall 2. Pirata Sr. pinned Trauma II with a foul, but Negro & Canek rallied back to win the third fall.

Black Terry Jr. has put up the title match: fall 1, fall 2, fall 3

CMLL (MON) 07/04/2011 Arena Puebla [Cinco Radio, Manuel Vela @ flickr, Porra Fresa]
1) Asturiano, Black Tiger, Stigma b Akron, Espiritu Maligno, Sauron
Rudos took the first, tecnicos took the second. It sounds like Asturiano tried to do a moonsault onto Sauron in the third, but got no distance and hit the pole on the way down. Match immediately ended with the tecnicos winning.
2) Inquisidor, Puma King, Tiger Kid vs Metatrón, Pegasso, Rey Cometa
Rudos took 1/3. Metatrona and Inquisidor were eliminated in the third before Puma beat Cometa to win it.
3) Fuego, Sagrado, Stuka Jr. b Hijo del Signo, Misterioso Jr., Pólvora
Chico Madrid was honored before the match, though only about half the wrestlers came to the ring for the moment of applause. Tecnicos took 1/3.
4) Blue Panther, Máscara Dorada, Rush DQ Naito, Shigeo Okumura, Yoshihashi
2/3 for the tecnicos, Yoshihashi fouling Rush in the third.
5) Averno b La Máscara [NWA MIDDLE]
Tirantes was ref. Averno won the first, Mascara the second. Tirantes engaged himself in a conversation with Mascara’s second second (Stuka) late in the third, allowing Averno to get away with a foul. Devil’s Wings took it from there.

CMLL (THU) 07/07/2011 Arena Aficion [R de Rudo]
1) Maldito Jr. b Nino de Ebano
2) Pavor & Pequeno Valiente b Belial & Drago Luz
3) Lluvia & Marcela b Amapola & Estrellita
Lluvia replaced Dark Angel, who never seems to make it here.
4) Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero, Volador Jr. b La Sombra, Máximo, Valiente
5) La Máscara b Averno
Averno took fall 1, Mascara took fall 2, Averno tried to use the referees (Tirantes and a local one) to steal the third fall, but Mascara cradled him for the win. Said to be the first time Mascara has actually beat Averno since taking his mask.

Which takes us to tonight. The main event at Arena Mexico is a Hijos de Averno vs Generacion Dorada trios match. It is also the second to last announced Averno match at the moment. The only match left listed for him at the moment is the Lucha Libre Expo show, a card that would’ve been decided well before Averno knew his end date here. They could pull a surprise and bring back Averno one more time next Friday to do the NWA LH title match again (though they actually seem to be hinting at the CMLL trios title match more), but the most solid information I have is he’s supposed to be in Florida on July 11 and this is likely his last Arena Mexico match for the time being.

In the underdcard, Valiente will try to get some revenge on Polvora for using the ropes to beat him last week. That feud, the Gen11/Tapatios feud, and the Fuego/Dr. X are all probably not strong enough to main event a show on their own but it’s seems likely they will be bundled into a cage match by the August round of Fan Appreciation shows.  It has to happen in the next month, because CMLL won’t want to run such any other big stipulation show closer to the anniversary event, and there’s usually at least one cage match per summer. Also on this week’s show, Amapola and Estrellita try to work together again; we’re probably still a week or two from the new status quo there.

CMLL in Japan

CMLL and REINA announced the debut of a new title, the CMLL-REINA Internacional Junior Championship. The REINA news article says only wrestlers who have wrestled for less than 10 years will be eligible to challenge for the title. The first championship will be decided on the REINA August 14th show, which is either the last show for Seuxis and Silueta or close to it. Dalis (2 years), Dark Angel (9.5), Hiroka (9), Goya Kong (3.75), Estrella Magica (9.67!), and Lluvia (3.33) would also be eligible from CMLL. There’s a partial picture of the belt on both website, and it looks a lot like the new NWA Historic belts.

Other News

Jack Evans’ TNA match aired last night. He said he had been working in ‘Mexico’; the AAA/TNA stuff was not brought up or mentioned at all. Again, TNA guys are coming to AAA, but this has nothing to do with whatever’s going on in TNA. Jack looked very good in his match. His NOAH tour prevents TNA from following up on this much, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if he was brought back separate of AAA, much like Dark Angel’s deal

SuperLuchas looks at why Nakamura’s stint in CMLL didn’t work out. CMLL’s generally had no plans for the New Japan luchadors this year. Goto did have the singles match with Ultimo Guerrero, but that was something put together at the last second. They teased a couple directions for Nakamura but never did anything with him. So far, there’s no particular direction for Naito this time. Since CMLL always knows when the NJPW guys are leaving, it really shouldn’t be hard to pick the date and a match, and work backwards from there, but CMLL’s put no effort into it.

  1. Hey man, just a quick correction it was Tinieblas Jr opening the school, not Tirantes Jr.

    Also are there no clear pics of Averno’s unmasked face?
    I don’t recall ever seeing a pic on here after he was unmasked.

    CMLL hardly has plans for their own guys, let alone NJPW guys.

  2. CMLL.com had some clear in ring pics of Averno after he was unmasked. I think other pics are missing because he did not gave an interview since he lost his mask – surely because he don’t want to be asked about WWE.

  4. The story is a wrestler (in Tijuana?) was paralyzed by a martiente gone wrong. Though I think the truth is more someone thought it would be a neat DQ finish.

  5. It was an Antonio Pena creation. As late as 1990 the tombstone/piledriver was still being used legally to finish matches – most notably a Dandy/Texano vs Atlantis/Angel Azteca tag title match and in lots of CMLL main events involving Chavo Guerrero. It was always treated as a death move as you wouldn’t see it unless it was the finish but it became a DQ when Love Machine showed up as part of the angle that he doesn’t understand Lucha Libre. It built to him losing his mask to Blue Panther in April 1992 when he used it and got DQ’ed. From then on it was treated as a death move that is an instant DQ.

    These days it only seems to be a death move when the angle calls for it. Ultimo Gladiador uses piledrivers two minutes into his matches mostly because he’s dumb and doesn’t understand any better. Park/Mesias do kickouts at a 2 count after a tombstone which is supposed to be dramatic but just bastardizes the move b/c one TV show later Aero Star gets hit with the same move and we are supposed to think he’s dead.
