Averno/Mascara, Casas/Atlantis, Polvora/Valiente

CMLL (FRI) 07/01/2011 Arena Mexico [CMLL]
1) Leono & MetálicoBobby Zavala & Camorra
Leono eliminated Camorra, Zavala eliminted Leono, and Metalico beat Zavala for the win.
2) Dalys la Caribeña, Lluvia, MarcelaAmapola, Estrellita, Tiffany
Dalis replaced Luna, who missing this week. Straight falls for the tecnicas when Amapola and Estrellita had problems again – this time, Amapola accidentally missile dropkicked Estrellita. Not sure who’s side Tiffany took.
3) Rey Cometa TLDRAW Hijo del Signo [lightning]
10 minute time limit draw!
4) Misterioso Jr., Pólvora, Shigeo OkumuraMetal Blanco, Palacio Negro, Valiente
Rudos took falls 1/3. After Metal Blanco and Palacio Negro did their dives, Valiente and frequent nemesis Polvora were left in. Polvora tried a rope bounce powerbomb, Valiente reversed it to a huracarrana, Polvora rolled thru and grabbed the bottom rope for the three count.
5) Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. DQ Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas
Rudos took fall 1, tecnicos took fall 2. End came down to Guerrero Maya going for the Cerebina, Negro escaping (using an eye rake?), snapping Maya’s arm over the top rope and putting on a cross armbreaker. Maya gave, but Negro refused to let go and lost by disqualification. Atlantis, who was awarded the Copa Bobby Bonales before the match, challenged Negro after.
6) Averno, Ephesto, MephistoLa Máscara, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada
Mascara Dorada has new music. Rudos won when Mephisto – already eliminated – fouled Mascara while he was putting Averno in la campana. Averno got the pin.

Atlantis with the Copa.

Ras de Lona was at the gym for no  reason (except maybe they got paid.) Averno can cut a promo and work on his arms at the same time. Panico & Guerrero del Futuro, not at the gym and looking like they got brought in on short notice, talked about Friday night shows coming back to Guadalajara. I presume that means Sunday shows will indeed by all local wrestlers, but that’s not been said. Dragon Lee was back talking about the Tapatios, so he may be part of that feud again. Diamante’s toe injury looks like a freak thing, just his foot being twisted, not someone stepping or landing on it like you’d guess for a foot injury. His entire right foot is in a cast. (No one’s signed it.) Yoshihashi said he was working with Franco Colombo – I thought he was training the pre-teens?  Estrellita’s talked about how she could be either ruda or tecnica, so she’s going tecnica soon, and Amapola threatened to take Estrellita’s hair if she did not shape up.

Black Terry Jr. has photos from Friday’s EAW show. Looks like they actually drew something less than 7,000.

The missing Santo film is scheduled to air, this time in a mid July film festival. Last time it was supposed to be shown for the first time in 40 years, this March, El Hijo del Santo successfully blocked it from being aired.

There’s a second trailer for tomorrow’s IWL iPPV. I should be around, so I’ll try to run a chat for those interested.

Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 07/08/2011 Arena Mexico
1) Starman & Trueno vs Disturbio & Zayco
2) Dalys la Caribeña, Dark Angel, Goya Kong vs Amapola, Estrellita, Princesa Blanca
3) Eléctrico vs Pequeño Nitro [lightning]
4) Hijo del Fantasma, Stuka Jr., Valiente vs Euforia, Pólvora, Virus
5) Naito, Psicosis, Volador Jr. vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Rey Escorpion, Último Guerrero
6) La Máscara, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto

On his most recent podcast, Dr. Lucha said he heard Averno was due to WWE on 07/11. That’s about a week later that I had heard, but it’d explain why he was still around for this (and why they didn’t just have him lose last night.) Ras de Lona had Rush in Mascara Dorada’s spot.

Robert noted this was Volador’s first Friday night appearance since April 22nd. And it’s not lasting more than one week, since he’s in GDL next Friday (and teaming with Ultimo Guerrero against Psicosis – good work.) Mr. Aguila was listed in Psicosis’ spot on Ras de Lona

I wonder how the women’s match will end!

CMLL (SUN) 07/17 Arena Coliseo
1) Dalys la Caribeña & Lady Afrodita vs La Comandante & Mima Shimoda
2) Dr. X, Hooligan, Loco Max, Nitro, Skándalo vs Cancerbero, Euforia, Pólvora, Raziel, Virus [cibernetico]
3) Ephesto, Mephisto, Shigeo Okumura vs Stuka Jr., Toscano, Valiente
4) La Máscara, La Sombra, Mr. Cacao vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Atlantis, Negro Casas

Lineup via MT. I bet Arkangel liked the idea of teaming up with Atlantis and Negro a lot better before they started feuding.

Please air the cibernetico.

Lady Afrodita turns up on indy shows a few times in the last 12 months with the DTU/Lucha POP girls, though never on one of those specifically. I presume she’s an Arkangel trainee.

  1. I would not be surprise if more luchadores and luchadoras get their inspirations from SNKPlaymore. KoF (and Ángel too) is so huge in Mexico that the 2011 KOF Cup was held in Cd. Juarez.

  2. CMLL TV has #3, #4 & #6 from 6/24. That leaves women and Forjando un Idolo for Fox Sports.

  3. GDL is airing this week and has top 3 from this past Tuesday. But since the women are on first, I’m tuning out.

  4. @Tim: Can you imagine if the Botchmania guy had access to CMLL TV? He’d be at volume 373 by now.

  5. Amazing that in this match Tiger Kid and Puma King are the guys who will never get a chance in CMLL and Dragon Lee/Inquisidor/Super Halcon Jr. outrank them on the depth chart. People wonder why I think CMLL blows? Just re-read that.

  6. @Rob:

ACM will be in HD before AAA does it.

And I would like Tiger/Puma better if they didn’t have indie offense and names.

  7. Why would you debut a little chicken to stand with you and not have him get involved in the match? Must have been his kid.

  8. GDL main event was humorous. They did enough for me not to accuse them of mailing it in.

  9. Well that was one of the weirdest match I’ve seen in ACM and that says a lot. It was actually Golden Boy/Simbolo/Neurosis vs Hijo Del Nija/Silencio and some mini in a rudos in drag Stripper Lumberjack match. The girl strippers left after the 2nd fall and were actually helping the rudos out. Then some other girl ran in and attacked the rudos. Just a weird match that can only happen in Monterrey.

  10. La Sombra is in the G1 Climax. I guess they had to use someone, and there aren’t really any legit heavyweights in CMLL that I can think of.

And don’t say Super Porky >:(

  11. Sombra in the G1 means that the Universal Tournament has to be from 15th to 29th July, otherwise he can’t move to the Universal Tournament final.

  12. It really doesn’t matter what CMLL guy gets sent, they’re just there to lose all their tournament matches to the NJ guys. Except the one I’m sure they’ll give him via forfeit.

  13. Or CMLL didn’t plan it out properly. Imagine that… incompetence from CMLL!

I always hate the news of a big CMLL star going to New Japan. It’s not that I dislike New Japan, it’s just that inevitably the CMLL guys go over there to lose to anyone and everyone. Sure New Japan will give them the token win like Sombra beat Lyger by countout and Dorada getting to win back HIS title but in general they end tours with losing records and are treated like nobodies. Meanwhile CMLL takes every New Japan wrestler no matter what their status is (vet, rookie, part-timer) and has them instantly main eventing beating any guy on the CMLL roster. Can you imagine even Jado being sent to Mexico and having to work undercard trios matches and do jobs like Dorada had to? Or having Devitt come over and lose in round 1 of the Universal Title tournament like both Dorada/Sombra not even qualifying in the Super Junior tourneys?

  14. Have you not listened to the man’s theme song? Sombra is #1, he can beat all these fools.

    Sombra can beat
    – Lance Archer
    – Tenzan, who’s so broken it’s astounding they would even put him in this
    – Karl Anderson
    – Toru Yano
    – Wataru Inoue
    – Naito
    – Yujiro
    – Hirooki Goto (UG managed it, can’t be that hard.)

I do wonder if they asked for Rush. I’m thinking no, and the reason they haven’t brought Sombra over since the start of the year is because even then they were planning on bringing him back as a heavyweight and didn’t want to ‘diminish’ him as junior heavyweight earlier; they for sure had to know they were doing this when they put together the Super Juniors, because that’s the only sensible reason he wasn’t invited for that.

I also have a theory this is at least part CMLL’s idea, that long term they want Sombra to be seen as a heavier guy, big enough to beat the big guys. I always talk about the winner of Lyger and Tiger Mask being the most meaningful wins for CMLL guys in the Super Juniors, maybe here it’s wins over a tall Lance Archer or a big Toru Yano and taking it go big old scary Gigante Bernard, giving them footage to show Sombra is the equal of anyone. CMLL won’t mention the actual results because they never mention the results.

fantasy booking: forget the Universal tournament for a moment. With all the NJPW Junior Heavyweights free for two weeks, bring back the International Gran Prix – Lyger, Devitt, Taguchi, Tiger Mask, Taichi, Kushida (and Yoshihashi and Okumura to be the first two out) vs Mascara, Dorada, Valiente, Garza, Guerrero, Rush, Dragon Rojo, Rey Cometa (because I’m fantasy booking it – real life has Angel de Oro) for week 1, and maybe a trios title match for week 2 if those just happen to change hands in the next couple of weeks. THAT would be some good times.

  15. You guys are really missing the important part of the CMLL guys going to Japan this summer. Its about 4 weeks worth of Strong Man in New Japan. That means Strong Man not in CMLL main events! Also means Toscano/Rush/Maximo trios matches!

They still have to split the guys into their respective blocks. Once we see were La Sombra’s in with, then its easier to figure out what they’ll likely do with him. No Liger means he’s only getting one win/draw/or forfeit in this tournament. Should be some good footage for CMLL’s 30 second spot crunched into those two 7 minute commercial breaks in the first hour.:)

Mascara Dorada’s last tour, he was booked far better than some of the other CMLL guys not named Strong Man have been.

  16. I don’t know Cubsfan is trying to depress me even more on a day when I’m paying for an iPPV headlined by Madman Pondo.

  17. Do you think singles matches of La Sombra to Hiroki Goto and Shinsuke Nakamura during their Mexico tour would have been helpful for the G1 tournament?

  18. @conjuarez: I think they could’ve helped. They would’ve been a great explanation for why he was in the tournament.

  19. This is an IWRG like delay before Teleformula starts.

Please let this be a quick update on election returns and not a schedule change.

  20. NJPW usually has a junior in the G1 that is out to make a name for themselves against the big fellas, and they are usually booked to look very strong regardless of Ws.
I think who is in his block can help us figure out his chances, but I would expect NJPW to book things pretty even, like in the Super Junior. There isn’t really an obvious winner, is there?

  21. I’m glad Teleformula has pre-empted CMLL for live political coverage where they’re incapable of getting the audio to sync up with the video and they’re sending us to phone calls where the line is dead.

  22. AAA TV is a Triplemania highlight show. No dark match. Show is being hosted by Leonardo Riano. It’s good to have an influential daddy.

  23. @Rob: You were correct, that was what Fox Sports aired (women and Forjando un Idolo), I just had the chance to see the last repeat.

  24. @thecubsfan:

Tenzan was out for nearly 2 years healing up. He is pretty much 100% from all reports, so it’s no surprise he is in the G1 Climax.

He’s certainly in a better place then he was back in 07/08.
