Verano de Escandalo preview, IWL iPPV

Mentioned this earlier in the week, I do not think I will be around for Verano de Escandalo. I could put up a chat page for everyone else, but there seems to be no particular interest in this show. Not just here; I haven’t noticed anyone else previewing the show any more in depth than posting the AAA articles sent to them. A lot of this is because Verano is way too close to TripleMania, and not enough has been done since the show to get people interested in another major show. I don’t think this has caught AAA has off guard; this show is not on PPV and most things of merit are being saved for later in the year. AAA runs five major shows of the year, and has clearly treated this as the fifth most important.

The one match that doesn’t seem to be saved for later in the year, at least on the surface, is the Perros del Mal vs Psycho Circus match. This was originally planned to be a losing team loses everything match, but will be simply be the last person in loses. That leaves a backdoor for AAA to run yet another cage match later this year: X-Fly loses here, Perro Jr. returns, bring back the cage again. Perro’s status with AAA is really the most important part of this match; it makes no sense for only one Clown to lose here (especially right after they’ve debuted mini Clowns), so the important part is finding out if this feud is over or not. If Perro appears, they’re probably taking this feud until December. If there’s no Perro, this concept may be finished or at least massively changed.

Other Verano de Escandalo matches of note

  • Jeff Jarrett should keep his title when Dr. Wagner and LA Park cancel each other out. Jarrett losing the title would pretty much end the TNA storyline and it’s too soon for that. LA Park’s status with La Sociedad is what to watch here.
  • Mari Apache defends the Reina de Reinas title against everyone in AAA. They’ve been building towards Mickie James winning it, which would work if she’s sticking around for a while (but is kind of a duplicate of the main event storyline.) There’s a mystery woman included; I’m told it’s a Mexican and not anyone jumping from CMLL.
  • Five other matches that don’t mean much. AAA dropped the Cruiserweight Title from the Monster Ball’s match, so now it’s just another extreme match in a promotion that has ton. It’s also the very obvious place for suspended Nicho to show up. Parka gets his hands on Tabu for the first time, Samoa Joe is brought in to be in a midcard trios, and the minis have a match which won’t actually make TV.

Again, this show is not on PPV. However, the second IWL iPPV is tonight. It starts at 5:30 central for $10. Undercard seems mostly the same names as the last show (with Suicida vs Daga as the highlight) and Necro Butcher and Craig Classic as the new Americans brought in for this show.

Televisa Deportes has an article about AAA starting a reality show to find new wrestlers. I believe this is part of the existing Corona talent search contest. There’s another one of those today in Guadalajara.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Amapola & Averno keep their titles, Mr. Niebla wins Leyenda de Azul, Atlantis vs UG

CMLL (FRI) 07/29/2011 Arena Mexico [CMLL, La Catedral, Record (1-5), Record (6)]
1) Metálico & Starman b Bobby Zavala & Disturbio
Tecnicos took 1/3.
2) Mascarita Dorada, Pequeño Maximo, Shockercito b Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño Warrior
Tecnicos took 1/3.
3) Amapola b Estrellita [CMLL WOMEN]
The champ took 2/3 to keep the title. Estrellita left on a stretcher after taking a backcracker.
4) Mr. Niebla b Atlantis, Máximo, Rush, Héctor Garza, Blue Panther, Shocker, Terrible, Texano, Hijo del Fantasma, Rey Bucanero, Strong Man, Último Guerrero, Ángel de Oro, Psicosis, Metro [LdA, cibernetico]
Elimination order went Metro (via Psicosis), Psicosis (via Fantasma – with some accidental help from Hector Garza), Angel de Oro (Bucanero), Ultimo Guerrero (Strong Man), Strong Man (all of TRT with a powerbomb), Rey Bucanero (Shocker, thanks to T&T goofing up), Fantasma (Texano), Texano (Rush), Shocker & Terrible double pin, Blue Panther (Garza), Garza (Rush), Rush (Niebla), Maximo (Atlantis), and Mr. Niebla beat Atlantis clean to win it. Niebla was presented the plaque by Alejandro Munoz, the son of Blue Demon (who’s been feuding with Blue Demon Jr. for years; CMLL and Munoz obviously using each other to tweak Demon.)
5) Averno b La Máscara [NWA MIDDLE]
Averno took the first fall with the Devil’s Wings, Mascara tied it up with a a casita. Averno dropped Mascara with a top rope Devil’s Wings in the third, but Mascara kicked out. After more near falls, Texano (Averno’s second) tripped up Mascara from the outside. Brazo de Oro (Mascara’s second) jumped on the apron to complain, and Averno used the distract to foul Mascara. That got him the win. Averno challenged for Mascara’s singles title (Mex LH) and his mask afterwards.

Mr. Niebla has been on his best behavior since his latest return. No missed show, no reports of shows he would’ve been better off missing. I hope this win is indicative of a renewed and earned amount of trust being put in him.

Damian 666 is teasing Perro Jr.’s return to AAA tomorrow, where he’d interfere in the cage match just the exact same way he did back in December in Guerra de Titanes. (Clowns should be on the lookout for extra clowns.)

Record has a detailed article on the history of Arena Puebla. That location used to be a trash dump before the building existed, and those who run it say it used to be another kind of dump before they took over.

The movie featuring Elegido won the AAA/Lemon Films short film rally contest, which seems to prove you can actually have an entertaining 10 minute segment with Elegido. The description in this article – which focuses on the El Brazo movie – says Elegido’s one dealt with the relationship between the Mexican government and organized crime. Deeper that I would’ve figured (but judging panels dig mafia movies.)

Lucha Libre in Japan

07/30 NOAH: 2) Ricky Marvin & Rocky Marvin [O] b Aero Star & Jack Evans [X]

That might have been Rocky’s only direct win on the tour.

Looks like Sombra made it to Japan in one piece.

THAT’s an interesting main event. Maybe not a good one (3/4 will take care of that) but – was the Atlantis/UG feuding at the expo the actual break up? That would be odd. Yet, here we are.

Piratas defeat Perros, Mexico preview, Azul/Demon

IWRG (THU) 07/28/2011 Arena Naucalpan [Estrellas del Ring, Mi Lucha Libre (2), Mi Lucha Libre (3), Mi Lucha Libre (4)]
1) Alan Extreme & Dark Devil b Dragon Fly & Rolling Boy
2) Comando Negro, Imposible, Keshin Black b Bugambilia del Norte, Hijo de Black Man, Miss Gaviota
3) Angelico, Argos, Bobby Lee Jr. b Dr. Cerebro, Mortiz, Semental
Must’ve been very odd for Argos to fight Mortiz & Semental!
4) Hijo de Pirata Morgan & Pirata Morgan b Bestia 666 & Damián 666 [IWRG IC TAG]
Pirates took 1, Perros took 2. Crowd was behind the Morgans in the third fall. Challengers eliminated Hijo del Pirata with a double valagueza. Pirata eliminated Bestia, Bestia still distracted the ref, Damian fouled Pirata, but Pirata kicked out two. Damian argued the count, and Pirata cradled him for the win. Morgans want a trios title shot in exchange.

Other News

Another bigger Friday night CMLL show, with two title matches and a tournament. Not a lot of hype for Averno vs Mascara. There may not be much left to say. Mascara says there that Averno’s only won by cheating; that’s not quite how I remember the trios title change.

Amapola does not promise a win in her title match versus Estrellita – she promises a two fall win. Amapola is awesome.

The minis match has been changed quite a bit. Astral, Electrico, Demus 3:16, Pequeno Violencia out, Shockercito, Pequeno Maximo, Pequeno Warrior and Pierrothito in.

Blue Demon Jr. will not be at the show and is generally upset that someone else is making money of his (adopted?) father’s name. CMLL’s list of past Leyenda de Azul tournament has a random line baout how Universo 2000 challenged Blue Demon to a hair/mask match after winning the 2004 tournament, but Blue Demon did not accept, so no one’s friends here.

CMLL’s twitter says Naito has gone back to Japan. The G1 tournament starts in a couple days, so Sombra is either heading over or will be there soon, and tonight is Strong Man’s last night.

LuchaWorld has last week’s Ras de Lona & the latest Slammin’ Stan.

5) Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara, Sagrado vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Felino, Último Guerrero

A show.

07/30-31 lucha times

box .

52MX: Shocker’s return to Arena Coliseo, and Garza’s fall out with the Invasors.

LATV: should be the 07/05 C3 taping, with more Fuego vs Dr. X and Garza/Niebla/Casas vs Angel de Oro/Rush/Toscano

TF: They should be onto the June 28 taping, which included a seminmain match of Delta/Gallo/Magnus vs Polvora/Okumura/Yoshiashi. That’s an amazing match. Who’s the best wrestler in that match? I am tempted to say Polvora.

CMLL-GALA: listed as 105 minutes in Mexico and 120 in the US. I think I know how they’ll fill those 15 minutes! Palacio Negro vs Cancerbero and the Averno/Mascara trios should end up here, plus perhaps the minis.

————

AAA: again, only an hour. It’s the lame duck show so it doesn’t hurt as much, but the build to Verano de Escandalo has come across weakly on TV. Probably Psychos vs Bizarros and Wagner/Electro/Metal vs Maniacos

FOX: Women’s trios seems stuck on here, and Atlantis/UG/Garza vs Niebla/Naito/Negro makes as much sense as anything.

C3: Apparently Naito’s last match for the time being. TRT vs Invasors, Fuego vs Dr. X

Mega6: swing match is the return of Zeuxis…vs Lluvia and Goya. I dunno. Gen11 in the semimain, Pesta Negra in the main event.

Puebla: Averno vs Mascara, Yoshihashi vs Rush

ACM: Maybe the Chicanas trios from last week?

Perros: ???

IWRG: I believe they were airing either the Sunday show or the Expo show here, but I’m not 100% sure.
