AAA TV notes

Not a great way to start off TripleMania week.

In Mexico, the usual Sunday afternoon show was moved to Saturday. It was right after CMLL, so some people who might watch both shows may have stayed tuned for it, but anyone looking for the go home show for the PPV in it’s usual spot would have not seen it. AAA did not appear to know about this change and surely is very unhappy about it.

In the US, the show was pre-empted, ostensibly for Gold Cup coverage. CMLL aired in AAA’s slots on Saturday and Sunday overnight, but pushed back due to the soccer games. Back when CMLL came back on Galavision, my theory was they were brought back primarily due to being in HD – Galavision is try to push it’s HD channel on local cable companies and AAA isn’t in HD yet – and that would be a reason to make sure CMLL airs. However, the stuff Galavision was airing in the slot that could’ve had AAA on Sunday was stuff like nature documentaries, not something live/vital that couldn’t be bumped off to put AAA on if AAA wanted to put it on. Galavision is currently not listing AAA for next week either, though they tend to repeat last week’s schedule at first then change it all up during the week. The Gold Cup continues next weekend, but I do not believe the Galavision will be carrying any of the games.

TripleMania will air on PPV on Saturday, as it has the last two years. Last year, AAA also aired it in the regular order of tapings (though a bit clipped down.) The year prior, AAA waited to air as part of their end of the year vacation shows. This year, they may again be pushing back the TripleMania airing. This Saturday’s TV show mentioned they’d be taping on 06/24 in Queretaro. AAA doesn’t need to tape again this soon, unless they’re skipping airing TripleMania on regular TV, so that’s probably what they’re doing. I am sure it’ll turn up online soon after the show, and I hope it’ll turn up in a stream (but I don’t want to encourage piracy, oh no.)

Other News

MVP says he is not working the Perros del Mal show and was never contacted about it. Perros del Mal haven’t said anything yet.

Avisman and Freelance were due to have a hair match tonight.

In possibly fictional movie news, El Hijo del Santo and a Televisa executive talk about a plan to updated existing El Santo footage to HD and create a new “El Santo vs El Hijo del Santo” movie. Televisa is starting a new HD movies channel and wants all the Santo movies in HD, and this gives them something new to promote. (Interesting, but not surprising, that they’re not just making a new movie with El Hijo del Santo; the expensive of digitally inserting the original is evidently worth it. )

Also in possibly fictional movie news, Rayo de Jalisco talks about signing a deal for three movies, where Rayo would play another luchador in the first movie. I’m not sure why you pay Rayo to be in a movie if he’s not going to be Rayo – that’s what he’s got going for him – but few of these movies ever seem to get made or finished. The Santo one probably will because it’s got Televisa behind it, this one has “people in Spain”.

Atlantis vs Ultimo Guerrero is supposed to take place at the Congress Theatre on June 26. We’ll see.

SuperLuchas #417 hypes TripleMania. Inside, a story about CMLL trademarking the Sin Cara name and image in Mexico. It was a couple weeks after Sin Cara was introduced, but a couple of weeks before WWE thought to do in Mexico. Also, which CMLL lucahdor has risked life and limb by accidentally being interviewed by someone who sent the interview to SuperLuchas? Hint: his favorite wrestlers include Sabu & Pac.

Luchas 2000 #574 has a double issue about Friday & Sunday’s matches.

Rob has highlights of AAA tapings from 10/31 Neza and 11/07 Tlalnepantla and CMLL highlights from 03/25 & 04/11.

Averno destroys Mascara, Forjando un Idolo

CMLL

CMLL (FRI) 06/10/2011 Arena Mexico [Fuego en el RingMT (4-5)MT (6)R de Rudo (4-6)Record (1-3, 6)Record (4-5)]
1) Demus 3:16 & Pequeño OlímpicoAstral & Eléctrico
Astral seemed to be hurt at the end of the match – he rushed to the back.
2) VirusStuka Jr. [lightning]
Win in 7:15 via submission.
3) Blue Panther, Fuego, PólvoraAtlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. [Forjando un Idolo]
Panther’s team, working as rudos, took 1/3. Atlantis had Panther in the Atlantida, but Fuego and Polvora broke it up and held him in a small package for the win.
4) Diamante, Hijo del Signo, Negro CasasÁngel de Oro, Rey Escorpion, Último Guerrero [Forjando un Idolo]
Negro’s team took 2/3, beating Angel and Escorpion in the last fall. Every group is now 1-1.
5) Ephesto, Felino, Mr. NieblaMáximo, Toscano, Valiente
Felino got Toscano with a submission.
6) La Máscara, La Sombra, Rush DQ Averno, Mephisto, Shinsuke Nakamura
Averno pulled the fakeout distraction again. Mascara charged the guy in the roobe, but it was Ephesto this time. Averno jumped Mascara and eventually pulled his mask off for a DQ. Rudos held the advantage while Mascara left to get another mask. He returned, beat up all the rudos, and was about to put Averno in the campana when Ephesto ran in for the DQ. Rudos ripped off Mascara’s new mask too, and ripped up the rest of his gear.

results fixed!

Averno says he doesn’t care who won last night, because he’s going to win in straight falls next week.

CMLL in Japan

NJPW 06/10: Kenny Omega (O), Daisuke Sasaki, TJP b KUSHIDA, Mascara Dorada (X), Hiromu Takahashi

Mascara Dorada meets Ryusuke Taguchi for a third time this year next Saturday, getting his rematch for the CMLL Welterweight Championship on NJPW’s 06/18 PPV show.

Other news

Ras de Lona didn’t have much news. Plenty of interviews. La Mascara was interviewed with his wife, Averno was interfered with his father, both about Juicio Final.

Wrestling Observer had a really good interview with Konnan yesterday. Highlights included a mention of the TripleMania dark match (something like Fenix/Aerostar/Argos/Laredo vs Dragon/Tito/Tigre/Decnnis), Konnan saying AAA saying four different CMLL guys had talked about jumping, but all ended up with better money and spots in CMLL and Konnan saying they’d signed anyone they thought WWE might be interested in to long term deals. I’m not sure who that would be.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

I’m not sure what’s actually going on with Galavision. Their website says AAA is on their normal days, but the onscreen listings everywhere say it’s CMLL on Saturday and overnight and nothing on Sunday. I lean towards Galavision’s website schedule, but there’s no 100% way of knowing until things start airing.

Whatever’s on, they’re delayed this week due to Gold Cup coverage – the afternoon show is now a 8 pm ET show on both days. That’s also directly after the soccer games wrap up, so you may want to build in a little over run in case the coverage runs over.

AAA-US: TNA comes to AAA, plus the trios tournament starts.

52MX: no Rayos match, so maybe straight top w? That’d be a grab bag semifinal and Maximo/Rush vs Niebla/Nakamura/Ultimo Guerrero

LATV: should be the C3 episode from last week, with the second cibernetico in the Super Light tournament, plus a minis trios.

TF: if we’re back on Puebla, it’s two random matches. Main is Mascara/Sombra/Strong Man vs Atlantis/Niebla/Nakamura

—-

CMLL: If they’re comitted to giving the Fox Sports show one good match a week, it really has to be one of the Forjando un Idolo matches. Main must air on the big show, plus the other Forjando match and Astral/Nitro.

AAA-MEX: Neza taping includes more Fenix, Argos debut, Electro bleeding everywhere, Drago vs Bizarros and Wagner/Mesias/Tiger vs Perros.

CMLL-FOX: women’s trios + forjando un idolo

C3: Virus vs Maya + NWA LH cibernetico A + Fuego/Blanco/Negro vs Tuareg!

Mega6: Women’s Trios, Garza/Terrible/Texano vs Sombra/Maximo/Rush

TVCDeportes: Back on the schedule, monday at 1:30. Not sure what’s airing.

ACM: has to be the Rayo/Cien tag, said to be rough.

Perros: hasn’t even started airing the Anniversary show.

IWRG: ???? No Thursday taping, so maybe last Sunday? Avisman vs Freelance looked like an event.

CMLL preview, Averno, Park/Mesias, Rafa el Maya

Averno’s “I’m Not Leaving” tour made stops with MedioTiempo yesterday. I genuinely like Apollo Valdez asked the question, got the answer Averno has been telling everyone, and then moved onto talking about the actual mask match. Averno’s got nothing new to say about WWE (and has his story down pretty well), the match with La Mascara is more interesting at this point. In that MT interview, Averno says Mascara rushed into challenging for a mask match; all his other (unnamed) rivals refused to pick a date for a mask match, but La Mascara did and now he’s caught. Averno promises to his fans that this will NOT be a hold versus hold battle, vowing to break any rules he needs to get the win. Averno also calls La Mascara ugly again.

LA Park says the people are wrong to support Mesias. Mesias is not Mexican, and LA Park is the best luchador in Mexico, which everyone knows and everyone in wrestling agrees on. LA Park promises to shave Mesias on June 18, and a picture of bald Mesias will be on the cover of newspapers throughout Mexico on June 18. LA Park respects Mesias as a great fighter, but will win and be the idol of the people.

Mesias says the only way LA Park will beat him is if Park kills him in the ring. That will make the post match head shaving a bit morbid, so I’m not sure LA Park wins that way. Mesias says his match with Dr. Wagner two years ago was really good, but this year’s match is something people will still be talking about 30 years from now, and this show will mark a milestone in the history of wrestling. This is amazing hype, but I want to believe. Mesias also talks about TNA, since he’s been there. He points out TNA can’t really hate Mexico all that much if they’re coming here to fight the top people in the Mexican promotion. Mesias also plans on giving scouting tips to Jack & Tiger, based on his own feud with Abyss.

Rafa el Maya looks in good spirits. He’s still in the hospital and the recovery from his his heart incident will take a long time (and may possibly result in him ending his career), but he seems to have a positive attitude about the whole thing. The doctors are still checking out the situation and he may undergo surgery again.

Stuka Jr. wants a shot at the CMLL Super Light Championship. If he really wanted a shot, maybe he should’ve been one of the 16 men in the tournament that just happened! (My theory: he did not submit the proper paper work in time because he was too busy racking up kills in Aces Over Europe.) Anyway, this comes up because Stuka happens to facing Virus in tonight’s lightning match, so that’s one match for today’s Arena Mexico that has a story going into it.

Main event does too, one last trios match with Averno & La Mascara before their big hair match. Averno teams up with Mephisto & Nakamura, Mascara goes with Sombra & Rush. The two Forjando un Idolo matches have the Averno/Shocker group (1-0) versus the Blue Panther group (0-1) and the Negro Casas group (0-1) vs the Ultimo Guerrero group (1-0). 2-0 teams will surely make the final, 0-2 teams are done.

The Head Hunters will appear on the June 18th Lucha Libre USA taping. “Television cameras will be on hand to film this live event to top off the Second Season” sounds like it’s the season finale.

CMLL (TUE) 06/14/2011 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Leo vs Virgo
2) Camaleón & Trueno vs Ángel del Mal & Malefico
3) Guerrero Maya Jr., Hombre Bala, Starman vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Ráfaga, Skándalo
4) Lluvia vs Amapola [CMLL WOMEN]

I actually want to see that title match.

Guerrero Maya has been so busy in Mexico City, this is his first visit to GDL in 2 months.

06/09 AAA TV Results (Naucalpan)

AAA TV (THU) 06/09/2011 Arena Naucalpan [Estrellas del Ring, Mi Lucha Libre (1), Mi Lucha Libre (2), Mi Lucha Libre (3), Mi Lucha Libre (4), Mi Lucha Libre (5, 6), SuperLuchas, WagnerMania]
1) Cinthia Moreno, Octagoncito, Pimpinela Escarlata b La Hechicera, Mini Histeria, Yuriko
Pimpi pinned Hechicera with a casita.
2) Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro, Eterno b Chris Stone, Tigre Cota, Tito Santana
Team IWRG wins! Eterno upset Chris Stone, using the Cerebrina (an Alejandrina driver, which Guerrero Maya Jr. has also been using lately.) Estrellas says this was the best match of the night.
3) Dark Dragon, Súper Fly, Último Gladiador b Aerostar, Laredo Kid, Sugi San
Super Fly pinned Laredo Kid. Aerostar filled in for Argos.
4) Argos & El Elegido b Alan Stone & Decnnis
Argos filled in for the mystery man. Apparently, he was an a CMLL guy who reconsidered jumping sometime in the last few days. Estrellas says this was the worst match of the night. Elegido & Argos picked up the win, La Milicia ran in, and Pimpi, Laredo, Aero and Sugi ran them off. Guapito appeared – it seems likes we’ve missed a skit here, because he talked about being put in charge by Konnan (to run off the AAA tecnicos) and Super Fly agreed to support this new war. It looks like this could’ve set up a 6v6 match, but I’m not sure if it’s happening or happening at TripleMania.
5) Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown b Cuervo, Espíritu, Ozz [AAA TRIOS, semifinal]
Murder top rope splashed Espiritu to advance. Crowd liked this match.
6) Damian 666, Halloween, Perro Aguayo Jr. b Cibernetico, Charly Manson, Escoria [AAA TRIOS, semifinal]
Halloween replaced Bestia 666. X-Fly interfered in the match freely, and he and Charly appeared to remember they feuded last year. No explanation of why the teams changed, but that sets up precedent for down the road. Dark Family got involved late, as did Bestia. Espiritu’s distraction of Escoria sett up a Halloween’s spear. Perro added a chair assisted double stomp to pick up the win. Psycho Circus attacked the Perros, and all four teams brawled to close out the show.

2011 AAA TV Chart
Projected Air Date (#994, #995)
Mexico: 06/19, 06/26
US: 07/03, 07/10

Really active show for the ‘lame duck’ taping. These matches won’t air until the day after TripleMania despite playing into them, but I think everything that happened can easily be explained to those who didn’t see it (and Psychos vs Perros is a not a new feud that needs to be explained.)

The final TripleMania lineup, via Tercera Caida

AAA TV (SAT) 06/18/2011 Palacio de los Deportes, Mexico City
1) Cinthia Moreno, Fabi Apache, Lolita, Mari Apache vs Angelina Love, Mickie James, Sexy Star, Velvet Sky
2) Chessman, Silver Kain, Último Gladiador vs Heavy Metal, Joe Lider, Nicho el Millionario [TLC]
3) Billy el Malo, Charly Manson, Cibernético, Escoria vs Drago, La Parka, Octagón, Ozz
4) Extreme Tiger & Jack Evans vs Abyss & Mr. Anderson [AAA TAG]
5) Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown vs Damián 666, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Halloween [AAA TRIOS, final]
6) Zorro vs Jeff Jarrett [AAA HEAVY]
7) Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Rob Van Dam [AAA LA]
8) LA Park vs El Mesías [hair, mask]

Octagon gets on the card after all, with Cuervo & Espiritu off it. I could see them making appearances with that match, but it’ll more interesting to see if Nygma, Amadeus and Taboo appear with the Bizarros, or if some of them no longer exist.

Not sure if that’s the final card order, but it’s interesting the title match is third from the top. Park & Mesias has to be the main event, but I have more faith in Wagner/RVD delivering than Zorro/Jarrett. And it’s not because of Jarrett – as best as I can tell, Zorro hasn’t wrestled since April 18 in Arena Cuatro Caminos in Nuevo Laredo. Two months off is not good for anyone, much less someone who was having bad singles matches. Keep your expectations very reasonable for that one.

The midcard stuff from Naucalpan was just an explanation of the new status quo and/or setting a match up for down the line.
