05/05-06 Lucha Times

AAA-US: Galavision is currently listing this as a two hour show, but it was only one hour in Mexico and I’m sure it’ll end up being that way. Drago’s debut + Air Force vs Milicia.

52MX: It sounded like the Forjando un Idolo matches were taped for this show. And surely this week’s installment of the Rayos war to fill this out.

LATV: Always tough to tell when they come back from a rerun. The episode they should be has Dr X/Hooligan/Inquisidor vs Pegasso/Sensei/Starman + Fantasma/Azteca/Valiente vs Misterioso/Okumura/Vangelis

Teleforumla: swing match is Metal Blanco/Palacio Negro vs Inquisidor & Raziel. More likely for Delta/Metro/Sangre vs Euforia/Misterioso/Virus and a main event that can’t possibly get out of first gear.

CMLL: Signo/Puma (good), Diamante/Bala (hurried), UG vs Goto and Mascara/Sombra/Rush vs Averno/Niebla/Casas

AAA: Mini Psicosis vs Octagoncito in a title match, more Drago, MesiasLider/Parka vs Damian/Halloween/LA Park

Fox: Built for the trios title match and the Guerreros/Volador vs Warrior/Panther/Sombra (la laguna!) main event.

C3: Tie breaker match, Tuareg vs Fuego/Pegasso/Cometa.

GDL: Swing match is Metalico/Starman vs Infierno/Malefico. Main event continues the Psicosis vs Rush feud.

Puebla: Maybe the two unsceen Forjando un Idolo matches, though I wonder if they were even taped. UG vs Goto in a non-title match.

ACM: More Veneno? Not sure.

Perros: Not sure. With a whole bunch being posted on YouTube of late, I will try to figure this out.

IWRG: taping going on right now.

2011 AAA TV Chart
Projected Air Date (#990)
Mexico: 05/22
US: 06/05

Record has the lineup, along with an AAA press release mentioning that AAA’s lawyers helped get Charly out of jail. I wonder if we’ll ever hear that situation mentioned again.

La Maniarquía team up to face three of their rivals. They may need a fourth to handle Electroshock.

There will be lots of violence in the tercera. X-Fly will bleed.

Elegido & Lolita actually stand a pretty good chance in that title match. Alan’s taking a lot of pins lately.

That same opener, with Relampago instead of Argenis, was really good on this past Sunday’s TV (and Argenis is better than Relampago.)

Following taping is 05/18 in SLP. AAA says Jeff Jarrett and Scott Steiner will be there. I totally forgot was he’s been here before, but he was on the 2007 and 2008 Rey de Reyes.

Alebrije, Bestia 666, IWRG

villano gym/photo by Black Terry Jr.

It’s 05/05, so there’s a bunch of “luchadores – aren’t they craaaaaaaaaaaazy?” news stories. I’ll spare you. As always, this is a mostly US invented holiday; it seemed not to be mentioned much in Mexico. If you’re looking to do anything in Chicago, I do recommend Lucha Va Voom (though I’m doubtful I’ll be making it.)

Alebrije thinks his squad will win the national trios titles this Sunday because they’ve got such a tremendous experience advantage. He’s slightly concerned Misterioso will betray himself, Cuije and Olimpico out of loyalty to CMLL, but knows Misterioso really wants to be trios champ after going for these titles so many times (w/a Guapos U team and Poder Mexica particularly) without ever winning it. This will be Misterioso’s 12th known shot at these titles and he’s never won.

Mi Lucha Libre has a good interview with Bestia 666, about growing up the son of Damian. He does confirm he was previously Leo.

Black Terry Jr. posted photos of the IWRG trainee show and video of Dance Boy, Comando Negro, Dark Devil vs Dragon Fly, Hijo del Pantera, Triton (part 1, part 2, part 3) and at least part of the cibernetico. Looks like the Villano Gym won the rematch, but no full results yet.

Shockercito hasn’t been on any CMLL show in 3 months. That’s usually enough for my roster script to declare you’ve left the promotion but he is scheduled to be in Guadalajara this Sunday. There must be something going on with the minis, because Bam Bam has been gone for most of the same three months, and Mascarita Dorada has been MIA for long stretches too. One missing could be an unreported injury, and some of it is other matches being pushed out for Forjando un Idolo, but three people missing at once may mean there’s something more to it.

There’s a title match tonight in Torreon for the vacant ECW World Light Heavyweight Championship. Someone bought a replica belt.

Forjando un Idolo: Guerrero Maya vs Metal Blanco. CMLL still hasn’t officially said how the tournament brackets work, but my assumption is:

QF: Diamante vs Fuego
QF: Angel de Oro vs Guerrero Maya
QF: Hijo del Signo vs Polvora
QF: Rey Escorpion vs Delta
SF: Diamante/Fuego vs Angel de Oro/Guerrero Maya
SF: Hijo del Signo/Polvora vs Rey Escorpion/Delta <- 3 rudos, all on the same side of the bracket!

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

PdM (SUN) 05/29/2011 Plan Sexenal
1) Tony Rivera, Turbo, Zumbi vs Bestia 666, Halloween, X-Fly
2) Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown vs Damián 666, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Super Crazy [cage, hair, mask]

Poster here. Cage match usually means only one person is losing the hair or mask. Really, the Perros del Mal’s utter dedication to the least satisfying possible main event finishes makes it hard to believe anything interesting is going to come out of this. There’s still at least 50% chance someone not in match gets dumped in the cage.

top six stories of the last two weeks

  1. Perro Aguayo Jr. left the hospital, held a press conference to show off his surgery scar, and announced he’d be returning to the ring immediately. In fact, he did not wrestle in his scheduled match the next day, though he did run in after the match and seemed to be in the same shape he left. Perro teased his group leaving the larger La Sociedad umbrella rudo faction.
  2. Charly Manson was charged with attacking two police officers, sent to jail with no bail facing up to 10 years, then released on bail after all. No one’s quite sure what’s going on, but Charly has only missed a single week of TV after all of this.
  3. AAA announced TNA would be participating on TripleMania. Jeff Jarrett is the only name specified.
  4. Zorro is injured, but still managed to cost LA Park a couple matches against Mesias. On the Wednesday taping, Zorro yelled at LA Park to cause him to be powerbombed by Mesias for the pin. On Saturday, someone wearing Zorro’s old mask ran in and hit LA Park with a cane. LA Park blamed Konnan, Konnan has no idea what’s going on.
  5. Polvora, Fuego, Angel de Oro, Rey Escorpion, Diamante, Hijo del Signo, Delta and Guerrero Maya Jr. (in a tiebreaker) all advanced to the playoffs for Forjando un Idolo
  6. Perros announced they’d be holding a Perros del Mal vs Psycho Circus apuesta match on 05/29.

Other news

  • Blue Panther beat Negro Casas in a singles match in Arena Coliseo and the two agreed to a hair match. This was never mentioned again.
  • Konnan said AAA would be running a trios title tournament.
  • Mini Psicosis upset Octagoncito to win the AAA World Minis Championship.
  • Psycho Circus won the IWRG IC Trios championship.
  • Rey Bucanero left Peste Negra (and Perico!) to form a new trio with Terrible & Texano.
  • Escorpion woke up one day and decided his name was Rey Escorpion. (This is a better explanation than we got.) He and Ultimo Guerrero also had a few shoving matches.
  • people who kept titles: Jushin Liger, Rysusuke Taguchi, Valiente, and Ultimo Guerrero

Taped @ Arena Mexico, 04/22/2011

Escorpion vs Rey Cometa: Links go to the CMLL Official ones because that seems the way to go. Most action in the smallest amount of time. They packed a lot in a short match, and it still felt like they could’ve added another five on top of a normal speed match. Really hope they give this match another chance sometime down the road.

Ángel de Oro vs Palacio Negro Ultimo Guerrero got the great group. This was a battle all the way to the end. Friday night crowds have been harder on these matches (as they are on all young guys any one who ever messes up), but these two got them into this match. Great back and forth action, feeling like anything could be the finish near the end. Most exciting match I’ve seen so far in this.

Héctor Garza, Hirooki Goto, Volador Jr. vs Atlantis, Dragón Rojo Jr., Último Guerrero: finish didn’t come off well and Goto seems more like a cunning challenger than one that’s puts UG in as much danger as they’re pretending. (Maybe that’s because we really haven’t seen him much before this.) Next week’s match may be good but this really wasn’t

Blue Panther, La Máscara, La Sombra vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto: pretty good usual match between the two teams. It feels like they’re going someplace with Mascara and Averno, maybe even some place big, but they’ve lost those direction before.
