AAA-US: Galavision’s website lists this as one hour, my onscreen listings has it as two hours. Dunno. The rest of Rey de Reyes, squeezed in.

52MX: More Gen11 vs Opening match guys, plus Black Warrior and Goto return to this show.

LATV: I dunno.

Teleformula: Swing match is minis. Also, Gallo/Rush/Valiente vs Felino/Puma/Virus (great!) and Niebla/Negro vs Garza/Texano

—————-

CMLL: Gran Alternativa final, Atlantis/Goto/Casas vs Sombra/Rush/Strong, Misterioso/Polvora/Okumura vs Metro/Stuka/Valiente

AAA-MEX: Rest of Leon taping, with the AAA tag title match and the random opener.

FOX: Sombra vs Psicosis

C3: Dragon Rojo/UG vs Mascara/Sombra + two Forjando un Idolo matches.

Mega6: swing match should’ve been Puma/Tiger vs Blanco/Palacio, but Tuesday results never turned up from GDL.

Puebla: this should be Guerrero vs Niebla. Did you know: they have a Friday morning replay of this show at 4am? (I’ve finally got the listings working on TVCDeportes website.)

Perros: ???

IWRG: taping that hasn’t started when I wrote this. Gringo Loco is still listed on the poster.

CMLL-TFN: Appears done.

recap: here

Dragon Lee, Hijo del Signo, Hombre Bala Jr. vs Apocalipsis, Escorpion, Semental: Semental is just great. He’s a far more interesting mat worker than guys his age (and tries more than guys much more experienced), he makes the tecnicos look good and he has a good dive. There are four guys in this match who are in Forjando un Idolo, and he may be better than any of them. I’m glad this Team Primera vs Gen11 feud is happening so Semental can get sucked into it, but I’m not sure why he’s stuck at this level. Maybe he just needs to network better? (Apocalipsis is not good.)

Rush vs Rey Bucanero for the CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship: Expected this to be a small bit of torture and it was actually perfectly acceptable leaning towards good. My faith in Rey Bucanero has been somewhat restored, and Rush held up his end. There is room to improve: Rush’s crushing tope to start the second fall shouldn’t have been blow off so easily, and there were other spots which didn’t go as intended. But when Rush started to climb the top rope, got massively booed (as usual) and flashed a smile back at the crowd, I was sure I was seeing a great rudo in the making. (Too bad CMLL hasn’t figured it out.)

Perro Aguayo, Universal Tournament

Perros del Mal (led by Damian 666) held a press conference to update Perro Aguayo Jr’s condition. It wasn’t much of an update; they’re still waiting to hear if the tumor is benign or cancerous. If there’s nothing more to it, Perro could return around the Lucha Libre Expo shows.  For now, LA Park will be replacing Perro on most shows, though they note Perro was scheduled for the 04/30 AAA TV taping (card TBA) and that might turn out to be X-Fly or Bestia 666. They also handed out copies of Perro’s medical report to the press in attendance (part 1 & part 2 – with tumor pictures.) It’s weird, but it’s probably because of heavy skepticism of last year’s knee surgery.

The WON mentioned Mascara Dorada vacated the CMLL World Super Lightweight Title because the promotion is getting it’s ducks in a row for the Universal Tournament and needed to get a few more champions. This means we should expect a new super lightweight champion soon (maybe that’s the Forjando prize? maybe there IS a prize?), probably won by someone who currently does not have a title. It also means Dorada is probably not beating Lyger, because that’d mean one less champion and require more changes. (It’s doable, but you’re pretty much betting on the Avernos to beat the trios champs if you’re betting on Dorada to beat Lyger.)

Right now, I count 14 champions, assuming Shocker is good to go by June (and that’s the expectation.) New super lightweight champion makes 15. There are four double champions: Rush (MEX Trios, CMLL LH), Sombra (CMLL Trios, NWA Welter), Ultimo Guerrero (CMLL Heavy, CMLL Tag) and La Mascara (MEX LH, CMLL Trios). One of them is losing on the next run of Fan Appreciation shows.

CMLL has a new mini site for Forjando un Idolo. There is a poll, but the rules there do not mention a voting bonus point, so I guess we can chalk that up to a bad news report. Everyone should vote for Rey Cometa so he can win something in this tournament.

Bajo Las Capchuas has the most recent episode of El Hijo del Santo’s show: part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4. His guest was an actress who had stared in, of course, El Santo movies.

weird submission of the week

Höruz & Robin vs Bronco & Cholo: Robin and Bronco were so great together to start the match, I ran to the match finder to figure out how many times they’d worked together to get good. Turns out, this was only their second match. Huh. This was by far the best Bronco’s been at being the big man facing the small somewhat scared small man. Disappointing the match more or less ended after Cholo’s injury (and sad Cholo got hurt.) Bronco probably should’ve gotten to do something a bit more destructive than run Robin into a ring post to draw DQ, but maybe they’ll figure that out next time and Robin did a fantastic job of being concussed the rest of the way. Horuz…had new gear. (And didn’t get to much here.)

Metálico, Starman, Tigre Blanco vs Dr. X, Hooligan, Nitro: I wonder if these guys were thrilled that they got to work with exclusively with each other, instead of random kids? This was a very strong effort from a group of guys who are totally stuck in their positions anyway. The Metalico/Blanco stereo Asai moonsault was really well timed (and without the guys staring across the ring at each other forever, which is usually how they get that timing), though it doesn’t come of as well on TV.

I think Maximo quitting CMLL (for a few hours) caused his match to be bumped from this match. Very disappointing; it might have been great, but it would’ve been entertaining. It’s not like this show was filled with other winners.

Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío II vs Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno: A dream match! Easily the best thing on this show, nothing extraordinary, but a well done veteran tag with the home team winning.

Lluvia, Luna Mágica, Marcela vs Mima Shimoda, Princesa Blanca, Tiffany: Luna Magica. I dunno. What can you say? This wasn’t a long match and that was fine.

Hijo del Fantasma & Toscano vs Mr. Águila & Olímpico: Guadalajara walk thru special.

2011 AAA TV Chart
Projected Air Dates (#987)
Mexico: 05/01
US: 05/14

AAA posted this themselves two weeks ahead of time. That’s early for them. I’m surprised we get to see it before Sunday’s taping.

Opener would be La Hechicera’s first TV match since 2009, though she’s regularly on the spot shows. That’d also be the first time Fabi & Mari have teamed with the girl they helped train.

Octagoncito & Mini Histeria were in the Relevos AAA at Rey de Reyes, but this is the first TV AAA minis match in two months. Mini Psicosis is the only one of the Mini Vipers that Octagoncito has yet to defeat in a singles title match this reign.

We’ll know more Sunday, but Electroshock may now be feuding with Chessman. He set up that direction in an interview posted on Record today.

Mystery Man in the semifinal is likely the same one from Sunday. Poor Billy el Malo. I suspect the Bizarros will stick around to get involved in the main event.
