Yet another CMLL tournament, Dorada loses one title to chase another, TNA/LLUSA, Psicosis, Magnus

CMLL had a press conference today. Much less anticipated than the last one.

CMLL has announced – wait for it – a tournament. This one focuses on young wrestlers Negro Casas, Ultimo Guerrero, Shocker and Blue Panther will each mentor four of them, though it’s not clear what means. The tournament runs from Monday in Puebla (so we can figure Signo, Puma, Bala and Diamante as four) all the way thru May 20th (Friday night). That’s way too long to be single elimination. It could be like Guapos U, where people just kept facing other people until they just decided to end it. If CMLL puts up a full list today, I’ll update this post.

Mascara Dorada has given up the CMLL World Lightweight Championship. He says he’s moving up in weight divisions permanently, starting with that middleweight title match versus Jushin Liger coming up in May in NJPW. (Goto appears to be on the poster for that show, so he may not be long for here.) No word on what they’ll do with that title; Dorada is the only one who’s held it since it was brought back, but it’s not like CMLL to not have pointless championships around.

CMLL is also sending wrestlers to Japan’s (new-ish) REINA promotion on May 8th, though I’m not totally sure who. Marcela, Amapola, Mima Shimoda are definite. CMLL announced Lluvia, while REINA’s poster has Zeuxis and Estrellita Magica. About the same either way. AYUMI is on also on the show Specific matches not yet announced.

There was also talk about the Brazil trip, and Mascara still wants a title match with Ultimo Guerrero. Maybe UG should just say Mascara’s FanasticaMania performance makes him ineligible to be world champion this year.

MTV3 announced they’d be airing TNA Impact starting this Friday night. That would seem to mean the end of Lucha Libre USA airing on that station or MTV2; they don’t need both. Lucha Libre USA did postpone it’s taping for next weekend, but insists nothing is canceled. Next announced show is 04/30.

Psicosis, who was supposed to be on that next LLUSA taping, insists the Invasion has been a success because they’re still in CMLL. (Monsther disagrees!) Psicosis says beating Sombra on Sunday would be their biggest win so far and isn’t concerned who the referee is. He’s right, it probably doens’t matter who the referee would be:

Magnus did not look good in a match in Queretaro in Tuesday. I’m much less sure he’s going to be the new Mistico than I used to be. They haven’t really protected him and he has given them reason not to give him the spot.

The Dralion who may be in AAA’s next TV semimain won Black Rider’s mask this past Sunday. Black Rider was Omar Beltran Valdez, 14 years a wrestler, from Monterrey.

Maya Balam took Tiburon Rojo’s mask in the main event of Tuesday’s Arena Aficion show. It was a relevos suicidas match also including Super Muneco. Tiburon Rojo gave his name as Fernando Hernandez, from DF, 22 years a luchador. Oro III debuted in the semimain, and he seems to be part of Super Muneco’s troop.
