CMLL (SUN) 04/03/2011 Arena Coliseo [CMLL, Cesar]
***Arena Coliseo 68th Anniversary***
1) Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Universo 2000Aereo, Pequeño Halcón, Último Dragoncito
2) Dragon Lee, Hijo del Signo, Hombre Bala Jr.Apocalipsis, Escorpion, Semental
Rudos took the first, got DQed when Escorpion unmasked Lee, and Bala & Signo beat Apocalispis & Semental in the third.
3) Delta, Sangre Azteca, Stuka Jr. DQ Ephesto, Misterioso II, Pólvora
straight falls. Misterioso fouled Sangre for the DQ, and stole his mask after the match.
4) El Alebrije, Histeria, PsicosisLa Sombra, Strong Man, Super Porky
Psicosis used the ropes to pin Sombra for the upset. Psicosis challenged for a title match. They just did that singles match in Puebla. It did not go well for Psicosis.
5) RushRey Bucanero [CMLL LH]
Dragon Lee was Rush’s second, Zacarias was Bucanero’s second. Rush won the first, Bucanero rolled thru a plancha to take the second. Zacarias used his pan on Rush in the third, and was ejected for it. Rush won shortly after. CMLL.com’s recap says these two agreed to the hair match proposed last week, though no date.

La Presna writes about the history of Arena Coliseo. Considering it’s been the secondary arena the vast majority of it’s history (Arena Mexico supplanted it) and all the smaller arenas who’ve disappeared over the years, it’s a little amazing it’s still around. CMLL’s business has changed a lot in the last couple decades – EMLL would run Arena Mexico for a few months and go back to Arena Coliseo exclusively for a while – and it’s now as little used as at any time in it’s history.

On Saturday’s GLC one year anniversary show (the kind of anniversary show where you have seven title matches, most for vacant titles), Necro Butcher was advertised but did not appear. This was the same show Matt Cross was falsely advertised for; SuperLuchas says someone else (a promoter who was banned in Monterrey for attacking a commissioner) told this promoter they could get them and was not so correct. Both the recaps of the show I’ve red brush off the non-appearances in the first sentence as an non-story, which makes me wonder a lot of things, but mostly: why bother to bring them in the first place if no one cares when they’re there? This is also the kind of show that lends it self to many good Black Terry Jr. pictures; I picked one, I could’ve gone with a dozen.

El Hijo del Santo had foretold his show tonight with Demon, Perro and Rayo would sell out Auditorio Benito Juarez, outside of Guadalajara. Nope. @oscartianza says it was about 40% full, which puts it around what AAA did there for Guerra de Titanes. Not sure yet how CMLL drew.

In NJPW, Taguchi successfully defended the CMLL Welterweight Championship over indy wrestler Madoka. No set up for a next contender.

Blue Demon Jr. sent a note saying http://www.bluedemonjr.com is his official site, and http://www.bluedemon.com.mx/ is his brother’s site but he doesn’t endorse it. Guess they’re still battling over the rights to the name.

This Negro Navarro interview is about him apologizing for making fun of El Santo’s physical condition in his last match – because he was actually in bad shape – but the big news is Navarro saying he’s considering retirement. Yes, Negro Navarro will retire…in ten years, maybe. He would be 64.

SuperLuchas #408 has a lot of different things on the cover. The interesting thing inside is finding out CMLL is angry at SuperLuchas for an Ultimo Guerrero cover quote (“Mistico, don’t forget me!”), which they felt implied UG wanted to go to WWE too, but actually meant “Mistico, I’m still going to get you” in the context of the interview published inside. Also, CMLL is denying these things were actually said, so SuperLuchas is putting up the audio tomorrow. Fun times.

Sunday lineups are very iffy, so we’ll see if Gringo Loco finally returns. They’ve seemingly wanted to change those trios titles forever. I think Eterno might win.
