Oficials crack down on unauthorized title changes; Gran Alternativa

Freelance, Turbo, Golden Magic

IWRG (THU) 03/24/2011 Arena Naucalpan [Mi Lucha Libre, Black Terry Jr. (flickr), @thegladiatores]
1) Dragon Fly & Imposible b Alan Extreme & Tonatiuh
2) Carta Brava Jr., El Pollo Asesino, Hammer b Freelance, Golden Magic, Turbo
Hammer replaced Epidemia. Both Freelance and Turbo made that show, that always needs to be pointed out.
3) Eterno, Multifacético, Veneno DQ Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro
Oficials lost the match due to excessive violence.
4) Joe Lider, Silver King, Último Gladiador DQ Bestia 666, Damián 666, X-Fly [IWRG IC TRIOS]
Perros del Mal seemed like they were going to win the match when the Oficials ran out and beat up Silver King. Perros were not happy with this, and challenges were made all around.

Forgot to think about this for Lucha Times, but if you record shows on DVR, you may want to double check that the Sunday CMLL Galavision show is actually being recorded. They may have changed the show’s name, or they may still change it.

Tonight’s CMLL show has the returns of Black Warrior and Hirooki Goto. Warrior’s not been seen in CMLL since Oct 2009, when he lost his hair to Yujiro and clearly wanted out. Goto was last seen in summer of 2007, but didn’t advance far on his last trip. (The tecnicos in his last Arena Mexico match were Leono, Stuka and Super Nova, to give you an idea of his spot.) NJPW has big plans for Goto, so he should accomplish more this time. We’ll have

CMLL Gaceta (seemingly an official site) has a list of Gran Alternativa luchadors, but is missing data for many of them. Record has all the data. That is odd. Anyway, the things I gleemed: Mortiz is actually an American from LA (so, sorry?) and most of the new guys (Signo, Magnus, Mortiz) are listed as Arkangel trainees. Hijo del Signo is surprised he’s teamed with Mr. Niebla instead of a more serious rudo; he must truly be a novato if he’s looking for sense in the pairings.

GA chances:

Strong

  • Magnus & Super Porky
  • Escorpion & Último Guerrero
  • Diamante & La Sombra

Darkhorse

  • Ángel de Plata & Blue Panther
  • Hijo del Signo & Mr. Niebla

Weak

  • Rey Cometa & Toscano
  • Atlantis & Fuego
  • Mortiz & Terrible

I’m not picking Magnus; it’s a bit too much to have Porky wrestle three times in one night. Maybe they’re waiting a year to give him the Mistico gimmick before winning it. Diamante & Sombra seems like the best bet, with Escorpion/UG making sense if there was a tecnico team coming out of the other block (Rush/Dragon Lee?)

Speaking of rookies, Mi Lucha Libre interviews Fenix, who reveals he was previously Mascara Oriental. That was one of the six guys doing the same match about every week (sometimes twice) in Arena Aficion for the last half of 2010. It was really interesting from a data view and I had wanted to see if they were interesting when I actually saw them too. I guess they are! This means Dark Dragon is probably Sairus (sometimes Zairus), who wrestled in a dark match with Mascara Oriental last September. Wouldn’t be surprised to see rest of that crew (Antar, Cronos, Ares, Niño de Fuego) get tryouts if they haven’t already. Oddly, they were all wrestling in Arena Aficion under the old names Tuesday.

In an El Manana article, Sangre Chicana complains rudos aren’t rude enough, they shouldn’t be shaking hands or signing autographs. He’s got a point. The sports psychologist quoted at the end who says fans cheering rudos is leading to the breakdown of society and families members murdering each other doesn’t do as well.

R de Rudo promotes the hardcore show @ Arena Lopez Mateos on 04/02. Matt Cross is still listed in the semifinal, which is interesting if it happens – he’s on the upcoming season of WWE Tough Enough, and that might be his first appearance after that show was taped. (Good chance WWE pulls him.)

AAA-US: Last Rey de Reyes qualifier, another Electroshock/Metal match, Mesias is so hurt from Park’s devastating attack that the tecnico wrestles totally normally the following week.

CMLL-US: Only God knows and he’s not returning my texts. I think other people are more excited about this return than me. When CMLL disappeared from Galavision in 2006, there was only the one hour airing on 52MX if you had that. Today, there’s four hours airing on US TV, plus up to seven more hours from Mexico that often turn up on YouTube (which didn’t have much lucha five years ago), including this same show. It’ll be a lot less of a pain to just get the show on my TV, but I could’ve found a way most weeks.

Worth noting CMLL’s made zero total mentions of this show now airing in the US (the same amount they’ve made about the Teleformula show.) I don’t think they’re opposed to being on Galavision, but it doesn’t seem to be of any particular interest or spurned on by their own interest.

52MX: maybe things get bumped around to get the veterans/Gen11 match on this show? It’s bumped off TV entirely otherwise. Ephesto/Okumura/Vangelis vs Fantasma/Sagrado/Sangre should air either way.

LATV: no idea.

GDL: Gallo/Sagrado/Sangre vs Escorpion/Misterioso/Polvora looks interesting, Felino/ReyBuc vs Dorada/Maximo leaves us with perilously few color announcers.

————-

CMLL-MEX: Only listed as one hour. They never aired Sin Piedad’s main event, and perhaps they pull the same thing here? That’d leave time for Averno/Dorada and Peste Negra vs Sombra/Rush/Toscano. Controversial opinion: I’d rather see Toscano than Mil Mascaras in 2011.

CMLL-FOX: Kami-Robo + Atlantis/Niebla/ReyBuc vs Garza/Aguila/Olimpico

C3: Atlantis/Garza/Volador vs Mascara/Sombra/Maximo

CMLL-Mega6: swing match is Maya/Starman vs Leon Blanca/Rafaga, two local who don’t make TV much.

Puebla: Loco Max/Escorpion hair match should air this week, the one week delay is back here.

Monterrey: Possibly both Tiffany/Sujei and the main event trios?

IWRG: Trios title match that hasn’t ended as I type this.

——–

CMLL-TFN: not sure, things seem to have got derailed here.
