Toscano was wearing a “Fabian” armband. Tecnicos took the first, rudos the second, Niebla legdropped Monito in the third, Sombra hit a big tope, minis brawled, and the rudos took it.

Dorada’s fireman’s carry powerbomb in the first, Devil’s Wings in the second. Long third fall, with Averno sneaking in a foul for the win. Black Warrior, reintroduced to the crowd before the match, attacked Averno and unmasked him after this match.

CMLL Guerreros del Ring on 52MX #277 (03/12/2011)

Monito, enforcer.

Ángel de Plata, Leono, Metálico vs Bronco, Escorpion, Tiger Kid: Angel de Plata was lucky only to get a back injury; I think Bronco got enough of him to help him turn over. Overshadowed the rest of the match, but the rudo trio was good and Metalico’s sliding DDT was neat.

Brazo de Plata, Máximo, Sangre Azteca vs Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero: Really interested to see what Sangre Azetca vs Ultimo Guerrero would be like. Still waiting to find that out. The Maximo/Bucanero/Monito/Zacarias spot was cute. Maximo really should be pinning Ultimo Guerrero leading up Dos Leyendas, but it doesn’t work if it doesn’t really get mentioned elsewhere.

Fabian el Gitano, IWRG, previews, Goto

Fabian el Gitano

Not a lot new this morning. The latest reports seem pretty sure it was a murder that followed a fight, though less sure of the reason. Shocker was seen visiting Fabian’s family. IWRG, where Fabian started, held a moment of applause for him during their show; that would’ve been the first most people their would’ve heard about it. There surely will be a similar moment during tonight’s CMLL show. Cesar shares his memories of Fabian. Dorian Roldan sent condolences. Box Y Lucha reprinted it’s interview from when Fabian lost his mask.

CMLL hasn’t said anything yet. I wonder if someone’s on vacation this week, and if only takes one person on vacation for the site to not get updated for the week. Maybe Lluvia can recruit people at her cyber cafe to help?

IWRG (THU) 03/17/2011 Arena Naucalpan [Black Terry Jr. (flickr), Estrellas del Ring]
1) Alan Extreme & Saruman b Dragon Celestial & Sky Angel
Alan Extreme replaced Dinamic Black
2) Eterno, Explosivo, Miss Gaviota b Carta Brava Jr., Hammer, Magnifico
3) Multifacético, Trauma I, Veneno b Comando Negro, Oficial 911, Oficial Fierro
straight fall win for the tecnicos, building to Sunday’s title matches.
4) Bestia 666, Damián 666, X-Fly b Chris Stone, Sugi San, Último Gladiador
Perros focused on Ultimo Gladiador. They yanked off his mask in the second fall (which wasn’t a DQ), beat him bloody, and Damian gave him the valagueza for the win. Perros want a trios title shot.

I’ll be hosting a chat on CoverItLive (click here for the link) talking about both major shows tonight. They do not get started until 9:30 CDT, and that’s about when the chat should get going. Radiocmll.com will be broadcasting from the CMLL show. I’m hopeful a stream of the AAA show turns up, but I do expect to at get live tweet/text coverage. I’d expect the chat to go past midnight.

Tonight’s Shows

I’ve pretty much covered both shows tonight in earlier previews (Rey de Reyes, Dos Leyendas), but there’s a few last things to add.

Apuesta Record Over Last Ten Years
Brazo de Plata (3-5)   Maximo (10-2)             Terrible (4-0)      Texano (4-0)
LOSS Tarzan Boy        WIN Conde 2000            WIN Bestia Salvaje  WIN Maniacop
LOSS Villano III       WIN Cesar Dantes          WIN Cien/Mascara2K  WIN Heavy Metal
LOSS Pierroth Jr.      WIN Destroyer             WIN Mascara Magica  WIN Maximo
WIN Asesino Negro      WIN Sexy Piscis           WIN Naito & Yujiro  WIN Naito & Yujiro
LOSS Halloween         WIN Loco Max
WIN Asesino Negro      WIN Mr. Mexico
LOSS Scorpio Jr.       WIN Emilio Charles Jr.
WIN Asesino Negro      WIN Rambo
                       WIN Police Man
                       LOSS Texano Jr.
                       LOSS Okumura
                       WIN Taichi

Match actually looks close when you throw in Maximo’s run of 2005-2006 hair match wins. It’s only those last three that really matter; most of the others were indy shows or guys who weren’t really getting pushed at the time. The direct Texano defeat of Maximo is pretty telling. This match, and this show, is really just about building people up for future shows. At some point, Texano & Terrible’s hairs will be on the line in a match where they might not win, but they’ll be able to point back to their stellar record so far. This show will be off a benefit then, but not so much right now. (The same bit was done a lot better with No Limit.)

One more list for CMLL, alluded to elsewhere:

Hijo de Avernos Singles Championships, Start of 2011
Averno: NWA World Middleweight Championship
Mephisto: NWA World Welterweight Championship
Ephesto: CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship
Texano Jr.: NWA World Light Heavyweight Championship

Texano lost his title to Shocker. Ephesto lost his title to Rush. Mephisto lost his title Sombra. Averno’s the last one standing, with Mascara Dorada expected to complete the shutout tonight. (If you can’t take a guy off shows because you need him so much, you still can take away his title.)

Rey de Reyes is nearly as straight forward to pick. Electroshock paid the price for someone else’s unreliability a year and a half ago, losing his hair in place of Charly Manson when Charly jumped ship. If he wasn’t winning already, Electroshock is surely going to benefit tonight from Metal’s bad week.

On our podcast Wednesday, Dr. Lucha seemed pretty sure Extreme Tiger was going to win Rey de Reyes (Mesias and Park take each other out, Tiger pins Carlito.) This would involve AAA giving a big win to a guy they don’t already focus on, so I find this impossible to believe until I see it happen. Charly is a title contender to kill some time, and because he’s a guy who would have no problem losing. (We hope.) Nothing suggests the Parka/Cibernetico and Perros/Clowns feuds are close to the end, so the finishes are whatever makes people happy tonight. Apache will probably get a little bit of revenge on Hijo de Tirantes in the opener.

Zorro previews his title match by saying he has no idea how or why Charly Manson is getting a title shot; Charly isn’t in Zorro’s league. Zorro vows to be a great champion anyway. I really want to use the picture in that link for the title history page on the wiki, it’s kind of great.

That article also says Metal vs Electroshock is best out of three falls; there’s been talk it may be a cage match. It’d be mostly pointless to have it a cage match if they haven’t already announced it.

NJPW announced Hirooki Goto would be heading to Mexico. I believe he’ll be in Mexico in time to wrestle on next Friday’s card, perhaps as Yoshihashi’s partner in the Gran Alternativa. Goto’s been in Mexico previously (Sep 2006 to Dec 2006, March 2007 to Sep 2007), mostly teaming with Okumura & Ohara. No mention of how long he’ll be around this time, winning the NWA International Junior Heavyweight Championship (an Ultimo Dragon title, which ended up back with him in short order.)

Prometeo Lucha Libre, in it’s role as obvious secret voice of AAA, explains AAA pulled it’s content from Box Y Lucha because the magazine had been charging the promotions to have their information included, but the breaking point was when they pulled the last part of the Marisela Pena interview for a El Hijo del  Santo retort. Presuming Santo didn’t like Pena saying he was begging to be on TV. Blog entry includes a random shot at the box y lucha forum!

Mil Mascaras, to Imperial Valley Press, (via SuperLuchas), claims he rejected an offer to work in CMLL (implied to be tonight), because they would only put him in the semimain. Mil Mascaras explains he’s second to no one, and if he didn’t draw the line, they’d soon have him in the opener. As much as I would like to see Disturbio/Zayco vs Mil Mascaras/Tigre Blanco, the last time he wrestled in Arena Mexico for CMLL (09/27/2002), he was in the semimain to a hair match of questionable merit (Pierroth vs Mascara Ano 2000.) Maybe he’s just become a bigger star in his 60s? If CMLL even made this offer…

Magnus, Máscara Púrpura, Sagrado vs Difunto II, Psicosis II, Volador Jr.: Magnus looks like you’d expect – promising but over his head, and not helped at all by making him Mistico II. It might have not been the original plan, since Mistico was bizarrely scheduled for the shows (even more so now that CMLL’s time-line says they were trying to sign him when he was announced for these shows.) Otherwise okay house show match with a nice triple dive spot. Mascara Purpura is still Mascara Purpura, shooting star pressing until the end of time. Liked Volador a rudo here than I have in other places.

03/19-20 lucha times

box

AAA: LA Park, Wagner, Nicho, Halloween in a GdT qualifier, the minis make an appearance, another Metal/Electroshock match, and La Parka vs the Bizarros.

52MX: This is a tough week to figure, but I think the cibernetico and the trios tournament. 52MX has added a midnight reair of this show, by the way.

LATV: This is now a two hour slot, twice on Saturdays. The idea is they’ll be now airing Cadena3 episodes, though I’m not sure when they’ll be picking up, and they had issues with the one they were supposed to air last week. We’ll see.

GDL: last week was a repeat, so maybe this week for Palacio Negro/Metal Blanco vs Tuareg

————–

Rey de Reyes is scheduled to air at 8:30pm local. That’s 9:30 CT north of the border, and that’s when the chat will start later tonight.

CMLL-MEX: Virus vs Demus and other stuff that’s not as interesting.

AAA-MEX: Metal/Electroshock, Wagner/Clowns vs Perros, a mixed tag title match.

FOX: Fuego, Metro, Sagrado vs Dr. X, Okumura, Yoshihashi + Sombra/Mephisto

C3: Panther/Fantasma/Mascara vs Aguila/Olimpico/Volador

GDL: swing match in a woman’s tag

Puebla: Loco/Escorpion, Sombra/Psicosis

ACM: Veneno!

IWRG: the show that took place as I was typing this.

CMLL-TFN: the show that was supposed to air last week?
