Dos Leyendas, Fantasma, Felipe Ham Lee

Yesterday’s Figure Four Daily with DR. LUCH had two answers to questions we’ve been discussing lately:

  • The original main event for Dos Leyendas was Mephisto/Hijo del Fantasma vs Averno/Mistico in a relevos suicidas (losers face off in a mask match.) Mistico leaving scrapped the whole thing – they’ve put Mascara Dorada in Mistico’s spot, but they didn’t feel he’s at that level yet.
  • When Hijo del Fantasma found out that match wouldn’t be happening anymore, he was very unhappy about it, and let the people in charge know. It must’ve not been in a constructive way: Fantasma’s reaction was the same night as that singles loss to Olimpico, and basically the reason he lost that match (and probably why he’s been MIA a lot lately.)

Steve thinks AAA is doing a Perros del Mal vs Psycho Circus match at Rey de Reyes too. Those guys would make sense as Wagner’s partners in his match with the Perros, since they’ve been teasing that for months.

Mr. Niebla returned to CMLL rings Tuesday night in Arena Queretaro. He beat Sombra in a trios main event by faking a foul.

The Gladaidors has a Felipe Ham Lee obit with a recent page. Cronicas Y Leyendas posted a video interview with Felipe Ham Lee from 1991. Many of the obits for Ham Lee briefly mention him wrestling as El Santo. SuperLuchas had a story about this about a year back, and there’s some pages from a Box Y Lucha story in their forum. The story that’s told, as I best recall, is Ham Lee and others were flown to Japan for a tour, except the whole thing fell apart and they couldn’t even get tickets to fly home. To raise money for the return tickets, another promoter offered to run shows if one of them wrestled on the show as El Santo. Ham Lee did, word got out about the show, people noticed Santo had seemed to wrestle in Mexico and Japan on the same day and the Ham Lee/Santo story got out.

El Hijo del Santo’s weekly column is about how important he is to Sin Cara’s career and how much Sin Cara likes and admires him. I read this and I wanted to scream, but I really didn’t want to bother the neighbors. It’s not a very good or accurate article – Mistico didn’t debut in the Gran Alternativa.

Colt Cabana’s podcast has an interview with Casandro, and stories about last week’s trip to Mexico.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

tornillo madness

taped @ Arena Coliseo Guadalajara, 01/11/2011
file: here
recap: here

Aereo, Pequeño Halcón, Último Dragoncito vs Mercurio, Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Universo 2000: probably hurt by having to fit in a 9 minute block, though maybe we got the best eight minutes. The new guys are raw but hopeful, and I wish they had different outfits at least while they’re still being introduced.

Puma King & Tiger Kid vs Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno: this feud is already great and they need to keep showing more matches from it. There’s a good veteran rudos/young punks dynamic here.

Rate the Truenos!
1) Mr. Trueno
2) Delta
3) Trueno
4) Rey Trueno

Controversial ordering!

Shigeo Okumura, Vangelis, Yoshihashi vs Delta, Fuego, Stuka Jr.: Another short match, and hurt by poor camera work. Things derailed when the top rope broke in the third fall; everyone was a bit too concerned to move at normal speed.
