The full name of the tournament was “Torneo Relámpago de Proyección a Nuevas Promesas de la Lucha Libre”, but you can just think of it as IWRG doing the Gran Alternativa bit. Comando Negro continues his winning ways. Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. was supposed to be his partner, Scorpio Jr. filled in, and they won anyway. In the final, Comando took out Multifacetico with a dive and Scorpio snuck in a foul on Trauma. They got past the Eterno/Veneno team similarly.

Black Terry challenged the Gringos for a title match after beating Diablo in the quarter final.

Tonight’s CMLL show is highlighted by Mephisto vs Hijo del Fantasma for the NWA Historic Welterweight Championship. Not really sure who’s going to win – leaning towards Fantasma winning the title about a year after he lost the CMLL version – but we’re watching more to see if they’re continuing on towards a mask match or if this will just be the end point for the time being. Main event should be a crowd pleasing comedy match and the lighting match (Dark Angel vs Princesa Sujei) might be a preview of Tuesday’s cibernetico final.

CMLL sent out PR to hype Generacion 2011. All this really has to offer is much better pictures for profiles, but three quick points

  • Luchas 2000 is not official CMLL PR, I guess.
  • Everyone seems to be from Arkangel’s current class.
  • Typical CMLL lack of co-ordination to also debut Metal Blanco & Palacio Negro and NOT include them in this group. They really could’ve brought the average up. (Meteoro Mercurio is also new, not sure about the last part.)

Also, the new trios champions talk. Rush is happy to have won with his two best friends!

  1. Maybe I’m wrong, but I recall the last time I saw Shane Helms on WWE TV, he had a beer belly. Maybe someone else who watched more regularly can confirm or deny this, but he looked bad. It could also be that he was wearing that Hurricane get-up and had a beard. Made him look sloppy.

  2. @Kyle: And ODB, according to Diva Dirt.

In a world where the SciFi Network is SyFy airing wrestling and Cartoon Network has original live action series, I’m not sure brand identity is as important as just getting eyeballs and whatever keeps the show on the air is what you need to know, BUT I could use a gentle reassurement than Lucha Libre USA will still have the Lucha Libre (pequeno halloween) that I’m interested in the show for, and not the parade of US indy stars I’m not particularly tuning in for that have been mentioned of late. Marco Corleone went from random US guy to guy we want to see in lucha, so it’s possible we may feel the same way about these other people in when this show ever airs, but…I like the Cheerios, I have a taste for the Honey & Nut Cheerios, but if I pour the box of cereal into my bowl in the morning and it’s actual nuts and actual honey, I’m going to be confused and probably not buying that box again.

On the other hand, a match with Isis or a match with Tinieblas Jr.? Ehhhhh. Kind of a pick ’em. Sorry CRZ.

Maybe the Mexicans just need to get better PR. I need more luchadors on Twitter, they are great.

  3. I’m totally hungry for some Honey Nut Cheerios now. This is why you shouldn’t post on the internet, kids.

  4. Let’s be honest… none of these women mean anything to live attendance or TV ratings. Their appeal is to pervs who buy those creepy DVD’s. So brining in all these women just confuses me. How will it help business?

Most importantly – please tell me Rebecca will be back. She’s the only female presence we need on this show. Maybe Kiwi too.

  5. Yeah, of course all of you start talking about the women and glean over my question….IS SHANE HELMS STILL FAT?

At least Lucha Libre USA added Cassandro to their roster. I can’t be too upset about all those other people.

In fact, if they have Corleone, Cassandro, Mascarita Dorada, Pequeno Halloween, Rebecca Reyes and TJ Perkins, then I’m ok with them.

  6. @Alfredo: Asking if Shane Helms is still fat is like asking will the sun come up tomorrow

YES HE IS. all he does is sip on beer in front of a video camera talking smack about people who’ve done better than him

  7. @CM93: I can’t see his beer belly on his show. He’s always sitting. :)

Well now I don’t know if I want him to get in shape since beer bellies usually make luchadores even more awesome and him being in LLUSA well it could work.

  8. Ex-Omega stars are not aging gracefully. Must be something in the water down south. It’ll be great for Highspots new documentary: OMEGA 15 years later. They can film it when Jeff gets out of jail!

BTW did anyone catch on the B and V show yesterday they wondered out loud if anyone known to the show was from Chicago and neither remembered Cubsfan? IT’S RIGHT IN HIS NAME! Poor Cubs.
