Volador Murciélago, Fantasma/Mephisto, FMLL

CMLL (FRI) 01/07 Arena Mexico [CMLL]
***Dia de Reyes***
1) Tigre Blanco & TruenoCholo & Zayco
2) Ángel Azteca Jr., Leono (not Pegasso), Rey CometaDurango Kid, Escorpion, Puma King
3) Astral, Bam Bam, FantasyPequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Universo 2000, Pequeño Warrior
4) Hijo del Fantasma, Rush, ValienteMephisto, Terrible, Texano
5) Averno, Negro Casas, Volador Jr.La Sombra, Máscara Dorada, Rotoporky

Volador had a new look. His mask changed alliances from Venom to Batman. CMLL recap also pushed Volador’s new rudo moves. He got the pin on Sombra here.

The Generation of 2011 was introduced before the main event. No names mentioned, but it should be the same guys from Ras de Lona.

Fantasma got Mephisto with a German suplex to win the semimain, then challenged him to a NWA Welterweight Championship. Mephisto agreed.

Mini tecnicos won in straight falls. Pequeno Olimpico was strechered out.

Guadalajara’s Festival Mundial de Lucha Libre, held lately in December, will take place this March 5th and 6th. They say they’ll have AAA, CMLL and indy wrestlers. It’s usually 3 days long, so I guess it’ll be a packed 2 days. If you can’t get to Mexico City for the Lucha Libre Expo, this is pretty decent alternative.

Highlight of Ras de Lona was week three of the best of, trying to cram everything in to get it done (which led to odd stuff like Ayumi getting as much time as the anniversary show.) Pretty likely they taped it weeks ago, because they had footage of the opening battle royal of Copa Jr. but no mention of a winner and didn’t seem to know who won the Dorada replacement poll either.

Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 01/14 Arena Mexico
1) Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío II vs Escorpion & Hijo del Signo
2) Bam Bam, Eléctrico, Mascarita Dorada vs Pequeño Universo 2000, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito
3) Dark Angel vs Princesa Sujei [lightning]
4) Máscara Dorada, Rush, Toscano vs Averno, Terrible, Texano
5) Mephisto vs Hijo del Fantasma [NWA WELTER]
6) Máximo, Místico, Super Porky vs Felino, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero

Brazos & Mistico is the main event, but the title match is the most interesting. Not totally sure who’s going to win.

The card format returns to the default for 2010, six matches with a lightning match. Dark Angel & Princesa Sujei last met in a lightning match in June 2009, Sarah winning that one.

  1. Don’t forget Leono replaced Pegasso who looks more and more like he’s done with CMLL or still injured (although he worked in his hometown of Puebla about a month ago).

Nasty looking concussion for Pequeno Olimpico. He slipped while trying to catch Bam Bam’s dive and took a brutal kick to the head combined with smashing his head into the ground. Hope he’s okay. (CMLL.com has 3 mins worth of clips from the mini’s match last night)

Don’t think we’re getting next week on TV either. Last year the first show they taped back for TV was on 1/22. I expect the 1/21 taping this year to be the first for TV and I think it’ll have a tournament. (seriously)

  2. CMLL TV YIR started with Sombra/Volador losing the tag belts to Garza/Aguila thanks to Tirantes.

  3. @CM93: Yep. It’s always that way b/c Galavision can only air Galavision footage.

Sombra vs Lyger now. Don’t think they can make it to the end of the year show at this rate unless we’re only airing big Sombra matches. Thus I expect part 4 next week.

  4. Okay, I guess nothing important happened from August to December. Sorry Olimpico.

12/3/10 unaired match with Latin Lover is on now. Get the kleenex, Daniel.

    Maybe Bucanero vs Aguila next?

  5. @Rob: Latin Lover shouldn’t straighten his hair. he looks rather feminine

they didn’t air any of the anniversary show?

  6. Very telling show. Front row was full of people I’ve never seen before. The CMLL regular fans were MIA and there were more females than usual (likely family members/friends of the usual front row crew). Also, Mistico barely acknowledged Latin Lover throughout the match and seemed legit disgusted standing in the ring watching the Lover/Garza/Tirantes bullshit that ended the match. Maybe I’m reading too much into it though.

  7. Noti CMLL hyped the online awards starting soon (not the Tapatias, sorry Cubs) and HD coming next week. Might have also mentioned something about the guys who went to Japan.

  8. I’m glad I can now at least tell that the CMLL show on LATV is a repeat because its aired like for the last 10 weeks in a row!

  9. Now THAT’S the way to go! Pequeno Halcon and Meteoro wearing the same colors so there is no way to differentitate themselves. Fits right into the CMLL mold of keeping everyone on the same level.

  10. When did Yoshihashi start doing a Muta gimmick? And that Mini’s match was pretty disappointing. Bring back Demus!!

  11. @billzero notes Okumura used to do a facepaint gimmick in Japan so perhaps he suggested it to Yoshihashi. CMLL bookers are old school so it may lead to a push for him.

@Tim: Yeah that mini’s match was pretty bad. The new crop of CMLL mini’s = major thumbs down. They need to find actual mini’s.

Also a major thumbs down to Generacion 2011 so far. All of them are really green. I shouldn’t be seeing guys who could barely cut it in Arena Lopez Mateos working on regular CMLL shows.

  12. He kinda looks like Kiyoshi of All Japan fame with the face paint. I don’t mind it as at least he stands out from the rest.

Agree about the Generacion 2011 although Hijo del Signo has potential. That Bobby guy looks way too much like Toscano while Dragon Lee looks like Mexican Jigsaw.

Nevermind that shit, HERE COMES GOYA KONG

  13. I’m pretty sure today’s ACM was the semi main from 12/19 but Cubs listing on the Arenas section seems to be wrong. Oh well, Silencio’s springboard Mascara Dorada type dive in the 3rd Caida was worth all the crowd brawling. And Gato Volador’s phantom kick into the audience.

  14. Actually, now that I’ve finally figured out the right teams (and am watching 15 minutes behind), I think you’re right.

  15. Teleformula opener is, oddly:

10/19 Metal Blanco & Palacio Negro vs Exterminador & Malefico

Cackled loudly when I saw Palacio Negro walk out.

Did not air on Teleformula previously (though maybe local.) From the commentary, this show (and next) would’ve been voiced over during the holidays – maybe they just grabbed some unaired stuff, did the voice overs early, and took a couple weeks off?

  16. Impressive skill by the director: cutting to the wrong guy at the wrong time consistently at the end of the second fall.

  17. 10/12: Averno, Dragón Rojo Jr., Mephisto b Máximo, Rush, Toscano – time to go watch the football

  18. “Fantasma got Mephisto with a German suplex to win the semimain, then challenged him to a NWA Welterweight Championship. Mephisto agreed.” Possibility of mask match, lets see. Masks ripped… check, multiple fauls… check, martinetes recieved… check, possible upcoming title match… check, apuesta for masks………. not yet but may occur.
