a (play)list of 2010 lucha libre matches

Today’s Figure Four Daily includes my cover story of some of the best lucha libre of 2010. I used enough weasel words to avoid having to truly defend any choice, but it was meant to be a nice sampling of the year that was.

If you’ve read the article, or are just interested in watching the matches I picked out, I’ve put together a playlist on YouTube of most of them.

If the embed doesn’t work, you can find the playlist here. Please note that the predominant uploading style this year has to been upload full shows in 10 minutes segments, rather than break them down in matches – you’ll often need to fast forward a bit to find the match.

Thanks to Black Terry Jr., WarriorsX2000, Lover_Ice (and all his accounts) and TheCatchChannel (who I should just be linking to instead of bothering with DailyMotion) for uploading the matches.

Two matches are not included in the playlist.

  • The Lucha Libre USA match is from episode 4, and is match #2 on the show. You can find it on their site.
  • The Dragon Rojo vs Sombra match is viewable thru RadioFormula’s site. If i had more time, I might break my rules and upload it to YouTube, because that player isn’t good for skipping ahead to the second match.

Start the list of matches I should’ve included below. Already regret not wedging in the Palacio Negro/Metal Blanco/Sagrado vs Cancerberos match, but I think those guys will be showing up in a 2011 version of this list.

I did watch Angel Dorado Jr. vs Simbolo. I spent half the match thinking it was pretty good, and the other half wondering why it was on the luchawiki list. And the two halves were mixed together! Maybe I saw the wrong replay of it and there was a time where they didn’t clip out the ref bump and the finish actually made sense (though still probably would’ve been horrible)?

We do need to have a conversation about the Tapatia awards, but probably not on this post.

  1. Just wanted to say THANKS for this playlist. 2011 is the year I want to get started watching lucha, and a recommended matches playlist is the perfect way to get last year’s highlights.
