Guerreros defend tag titles, Ecatepc main event, Mascara Dorada

CMLL (SAT) 01/01 Plaza de Toros Torreon [El Siglo de Torreon]
4) Black Boy, El Auténtico, Hijo del Soberano b Euforia, Misterioso Jr., Semental
5) Dragón Rojo Jr. & Último Guerrero b La Máscara & Stuka Jr. [CMLL TAG]

Fourth defense for the champions.

Angels del Oro and Plata were supposed to be in the semimain, but were off in Arena Mexico instead. Their replacements won, so hopefully everyone went home happy.

CMLL says Metal Blanco was knocked out for a few moments from Diamante’s 450 splash, but regained consciousness and is okay.

AAA announced the 01/15 Ecatepec main event will be Parka, Jack and Tiger vs Cibernetico, Charly and Scoria.

The Washington Post has a big article about Mexico’s drug problems not being reflected in the lucha libre ring. The mean in terms of characters, because it definitely has affected lucha libre in other ways. CMLL’s Sandra Granados is quoted in the article, and the consensus is lucha libre is too innocent to use such characters, and there may be governmental pressure not to do so.

AAA’s not talked about or to in this article, which is too bad because it probably would give a different perspective. It’s been a while since the Narcosantanicos have been seen on the indies, but what are the Dinamitas actually supposed to be?

Before heading off to Japan, Mascara Dorada told Fuego en el Ring that he was about 80% recovered from his foot injury. He looked about 40% in that Arena Coliseo Monterrey match.

Black Terry Jr. has photos from IWRG’s show right here.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Jae’s moved his Dragon Gate site to iheartdg.

Lineups

CMLL (MON) 01/03 Arena Puebla
1) Milenium & Stigma vs Akron & Ares
2) Metálico, Molotov, Sensei vs Demus 3:16, Hooligan, Inquisidor

4) Metro, Sagrado, Valiente vs Ephesto, Misterioso Jr., Sangre Azteca
5) La Máscara, Místico, Rotoporky vs Negro Casas, Terrible, Texano

A show. Think they’re setting up a Mistico/Negro Casas match here.

Ephesto should take Sangre aside and explain how much better it is on the rudo side while there’s still time.

01/02 IWRG Results: Guerra de Empresas

7) Murder Clown & Psycho Clown b Super Crazy & X-Fly [Guerra de Empresas, final]
8) La Parka & Silver King b Dr. Wagner Jr. & Electroshock [Relevos Increíbles]

Looks like a sell out.

The main portion of the card was another battle of the promotions show; they had one back on 10/03 where Hijo de Cien Caras & Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. for IWRG. There was a battle royal to create the complicated seeding.

The Psycho Circus, who are apparently a promotion? (edit: or, you know, representing AAA, d’oh), beat Team DTU to get a bye to the final.

IWRG reps M2K Jr. & Trauma I were submitted by the AULL team, but they refused to let go of their holds and got themselves DQ. New way for AULL to lose in the first round! After the match, both Los Maniacos and Los Bizaros ran into beat up team IWRG. Black Terry ran them off, then challenged Santana to a match.

Team Perros del Mal beat Team ex-CMLL quickly. Lizmark replaced Black Warrior, who was supposed to work this show to prove he could be reliable for AAA. Oh well. Interesting Hijo de Pierroth is labeled as ex-CMLL when he’s a masked guy who doesn’t appear to be Pierko.

Mascara and Trauma I were too hurt in their match to continue, so Black Terry & Veneno took their place. X-Fly pinned Black Terry with his feet on the ropes.

Perros jumped the Clowns before the final, but they battled back. Weapons were used, but Murder Clown still had to sneak in a foul on Super Crazy to get the win.

In other matches:

With the Wagner/Electro team more or less being a tecnico team, the main event had the unique bit of Parka working as a rudo. He and Silver King were assisted by Ultimo Gladiador and Fresero Jr., the son of the former AAA referee who’s been turning up on the trainee shows. Maybe the backup Maniaco if Heavy Metal turns them down? Silver snuck in a foul on Electroshock for the win.

I believe Scoria was supposed to be in the title match, and Gran Apache took his place. Title match was heavy on the comedy and the champs retained.

01/02 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara results

CMLL (SUN) 01/02 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring, @cmllgdl]
1) Nube Roja b Javier Cruz Jr.
2) Evola & León Blanco b Hierro & Horus
3) Loco Max & Ráfaga b Ángel de Plata & Sensei
4) Euforia, Pólvora, Shigeo Okumura b Ángel Azteca Jr., Gallo, Metro
5) Blue Panther, La Máscara, Valiente b Atlantis, Averno, Ephesto

La Mascara got Atlantis with a campana to take the main event.

Semimain came down to Okumura & local Gallo. Gallo might have gotten the win had the ref not been bumped. That allowed Euforia to sneak back in, crush Gallo, and help Okumura cover for the win.

Loco & Rafaga were randomly accompanied by “Fabiruchis”, who I believe is a gossip celebrity. Loco Max actually won, so it’s all good.

Horus was hurt in his match.

Willy ‘Loco’ Estrada is the main ref here, but the second referee seems to be switching around from week to week (at least as far as the Tuesday stuff on Teleformula.) On this show, it appeared to be usual tecnico Samurai. He’s only been in the ring once since winning a hair match in November and I wonder if this might be his new permanent gig. If I was Evola, I’m not sure I’d like this idea!

Earlier in the day, a group of 16 luchadors and Pato Soria went on a bike ride around Guadalajara, to meet fans and promote the show.

CMLL (SUN) 01/09 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Virgo vs Cholo
2) Astro Boy & Neutrón vs Dr. X & Drago
3) Marcela & Silueta vs Amapola & La Comandante
4) Fuego, Gallo, Sagrado vs Felino, Shigeo Okumura, Yoshihashi
5) Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara, Máscara Dorada vs Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero, Volador Jr.

Looks like the Gallo vs Okumura feud is ongoing, which is the kind of randomness I like. Or maybe this is more Felino/Gallo feuding?

They’re flying Cholo to Guadalajara? I choose to believe Cholo is hitch hiking all the way there.
