Mistico notes, Comando Negro and Gallo pick up championships

Mistico

Roberto Figueroa (who’s the announcer for the Monterrey show and part of Lo Mejor de La Lucha among many other hats) has talked to Mistico and confirmed that he’s going to WWE, as SuperLuchas reported earlier this weekend.

Dave Meltzer discussed this situation on Wrestling Observer Radio, explaining that WWE doesn’t just want to use Alberto Del Rio or Mistico to replace Rey Misterio. They want a half dozen guys on the main roster, maybe half of them pushed, just to make sure they keep the Hispanic audience when Misterio leaves. (And there are problems there as well.) They’re not putting all their eggs in the Mistico basket, and he’s not going to be the last guy they sign.

1) Lily Figther & Ludark Shaitan b Lolita & Sexy Lady
2) Chico Che, Dinamic Black, Freelance b Hammer, Magnifico, Masada
3) Comando Negro b Dr. Cerebro [IWRG IC Light]
Title switch: Comando Negro is unstoppable! Dr. Cerebro won the first, got overconfident and caught in the second, and was pinned in the third.
4) Hijo de Pirata Morgan & Pirata Morgan b El Brazo & Veneno [IWRG IC TAG]
Pirates were favorites and retained the title.
5) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro b Bestia 666, Damián 666, X-Fly [IWRG IC TRIOS]
Perros took the first, Oficials the second, and 911 escaped Damian from a valagueza and beat him with a move (different reports.) IWRG won a feud against an outside team! Perros challenged Oficials to an apuesta match.

Black Terry has video of the lightweight title match here: part 1, part 2

CMLL (SUN) 01/30/2011 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Virgo b Evola
2) Black Metal & Starman b Camorra & León Blanco
3) Fuego, Stuka Jr., Valiente b Arkángel de la Muerte, Euforia, Skándalo
4) Dragón Rojo Jr., Héctor Garza, Último Guerrero b Hijo del Fantasma, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada
5) Gallo b Felino [OCCIDENTE LH]
Euforia seconded Felino (in his Feline gear) and Stuka was with Gallo. They played the national anthem before the match. Felino took the first fall, Gallo the second. Fabiruchis turned up in the third fall to root for Felino, but Pato Soria got rid of him. Felino dropped Gallo with the superbomb, but Gallo kicked out. Referee (Loco Estrada) was bumped. Gallo tried to finish off Felino, but Euforia ran in to break up a move. Felino got up to take advantage, but was pulled into a reinera and Loco Estrada recovered in time to call for the submission. Gallo’s won the title back!

CMLL in PWG:
01/29: Mr. Aguila b Rey Bucanero – Rey clearly missed the spiritual guidance of Perico. Was said to be a good match with Aguila breaking out the over the ring post tope con giro.

taped in Arena Coliseo Guadalajara, 12/21/2010

Felino, Héctor Garza, Negro Casas vs Blue Panther, Delta, Máximo – very standard Maximo/Garza match. They did it okay, you’ve seen it.

Mephisto vs Místico – I originally wrote stuff here that is so totally beside the point now. I hope he finds happiness.

Mistico

(the original story can be found here)

CMLL’s press officer Sandra Granados told Televisa Deportes there’s nothing to the Mistico to WWE news. Her actual quote seems to be in response to the last iteration of this rumor, when there was a story in the Wrestling Observer, and not in relation to SuperLuchas story.

Meanwhile, most (though not all) mentions and pictures of Mistico were purged from the CMLL.com website around 2pm today. The front page animation now has Mascara Dorada in Mistico’s place, the article about Mistico and Averno’s recent issue has been removed from the news page, and you can no longer vote for Mistico in the 2010 CMLL.com Awards. Mistico’s always been on Ras de Lona when there’s anything to talk to him about, but he didn’t make an appearance to talk about the NJPW shows and Averno managed to talk about his experiences on the tour without mention Mistico’s name. Mistico was not shown in any of the many clips of the tour.

Every thing I’ve heard and seen today, except for Gonzalez’s quote, indicates Mistico has left the company. She’s a great representative for the company, but I think she’s just out of the loop on this one.

I do not think CMLL will try to pass off someone new in the outfit. It’s too easy to find out in 2011, and the crowd will instantly turn on the new Mistico and be angry with the promotion. CMLL already has their new Mistico’s in Sombra, Mascara Dorada and others. It’s a big reason they don’t have the original Mistico.

Mask Mania has photos of Mistico/Tanahashi/Devitt vs Averno/Nakamura/Naito from the first NJPW/CMLL show. Averno vs Mistico was part of night two and appears to be the end of the “CMLL is Mistico” era. That same match was the one that started this era, which is a nice coincidence, but also might say something about CMLL’s problems.

Cesar wishes Mistico good luck – so do I! – and hopes this doesn’t lead to a certain doctor returning to Arena Mexico. Nikita says the WWE domination over the rest of the world sucks.

CMLL (SUN) 01/30/2011 Arena Coliseo [Cesar, CMLL]
1) Bengala & RobinDisturbio & Zayco
Robin had new gear with a Brazo mask and Bengala had a more Tiger-ish mask. Rudos screwed up, leading to the tecnico win
2) Fabián el Gitano, Metálico, MetatrónBronco, Demus 3:16, Inquisidor
Fabian has short hair!
3) Bam Bam, Mascarita Dorada, ShockercitoPequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito
This looks great. World Champ Bam Bam beat National Champ Pierrothito.
4) Metro, Rush, ToscanoEphesto, Shigeo Okumura, Yoshihashi
Yoshihashi appears to be brought back for Rush to kill – Cesar notes a lot of hard hitting. Toscano landed short of Okumura on a tope con giro in the third.
5) Atlantis, Negro Casas, Volador Jr.Blue Panther, Brazo de Plata, La Máscara
Volador snuck in a foul on Blue Panther for the pin, then vowed to not rest until he retired Panther! Volador wants to be a legend killer, more or less. Perico was all over this one.

Remember how Ultimo Gladiador explained AAA gave him his mask because they didn’t think he had a mean enough face to be a rudo? Seems like the same is going on with Volador; they’re trying to come up with a predator image to match the character they want him to be. I think AAA might actually be having more luck with Super Fly doing the same bit (but then, they had a longer setup.)

Dr. Landru posted video of the Torneo de Maestros from Saturday’s Arena Neza show. Links, with no spoilers: semifinal 1, semifinal 2, final tag match, final singles match for the winners. Full report over on the Gladiatores.

Lineups

Cesar has his thoughts on the CMLL Tue/Fri lineups, noting a lot of time killing when they should be building.

IWRG (SUN) 02/06/2011 Arena Naucalpan
1) Guizmo vs Guerrero 2000
2) Alan Extreme & Dinamic Black vs Imposible & Keshin Black
3) Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro, Multifacético vs Bombero Infernal, Comando Negro, Hammer
4) Black Terry, El Brazo, Negro Navarro vs ?, Ángel Mortal, Gran Apache
5) Hijo de LA Park vs Bobby Lee Jr.Hijo de Pirata MorganBestia 666Kung Fu Jr.Hijo de Máscara Año 2000Carta Brava Jr.el Hijo del CanekTrauma IUltramán Jr. [Junior de Juniors]

Main event is a 10 man tournament to determine the best junior. Not sure of the format.

Semimain was set up by the Terry/Angel Mortal hair match.

I posted it last week, but just a reminder that there’s a IWRG trainee show this Tuesday. And Thursday’s show is off for Friday’s AAA TV taping.

CMLL (SUN) 02/06/2011 Arena Coliseo
1) Camaleón & Höruz vs Ramstein & Semental
2) Goya Kong, Lluvia, Marcela vs La Comandante, Mima Shimoda, Princesa Sujei
3) Mascarita Dorada vs EléctricoPequeño MaximoAstralFantasyPierrothitoPequeño NitroPequeño OlímpicoPequeño ViolenciaMercurio [cibernetico]
4) Hijo del Fantasma, Sagrado, Valiente vs Ephesto, Felino, Rey Bucanero
5) Blue Panther, Brazo de Plata, Toscano vs Héctor Garza, Negro Casas, Volador Jr.

Volador/Panther continues in the main event. Minis cibernetico should be fun.

Opener would be Ramstein’s first match in CMLL since October.

CMLL (SUN) 02/06/2011 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Thunder Boy & Virgo vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Guerrero Maya Jr. & Rey Cometa vs Drago & Ráfaga
3) Delta & Stuka Jr. vs Cancerbero & Pólvora
4) La Máscara, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada vs Atlantis, Dragón Rojo Jr., Último Guerrero

That main event would be trios champions versus logical top contenders. The UG interview linked up there notes Dragon Rojo has won a singles title (Copa Jr.) and the tag team titles, so he just needs a trios title to complete the set. Dorada looks to be around until Dos Leyendas (end of March), but after that, no one can be sure.

DF regulars are intermixed with locals again, and that seems to be the new pattern here.

01/29 DTU Confia results (and video)

Why is Zumbi in the women group shot? Because he's ZUMBI(Black Terry Jr.)

***Confia***
1) Muerte Bucanera & Oyuki Star b Dement Xtreme & Lily Monster
2) Keira & Tribal b Lolita & Pesadilla and Lily Fighter & Oficial AK47
Some changes due to Daga & Crazy Boy being out due to injuries. Some fouls and mystery men before the finish.
3) Sexy Star & Zumbi b Hormiga & Vaquerita and Angelica & Cinthia Moreno
Zumbi & Sexi Star danced their way to a win
4) Ciclope, Eterno, Megan b Drastic Boy, Máscara Oriental, Vanely and Ashley, Cyrus, Flamita
5) Fabi Apache & Mari Apache b Trauma I & Trauma II
Match of the night, money thrown in.
6) Aeroboy & Chica Tormenta b Cerebro Negro & Shitara
Shitara was pinned after light tubes and needed a stretcher after the match. It was her debut.
7) Paranoiko b Violento Jack
Three falls of different stips, but all pretty much extreme. After the match, with Violento Jack left in the ring, AULL Tag Champs Chucho el Roto and Iron Love ran in to attack. Violento Jack’s usual partner Aeroboy ran them off. Tag match set up!
8) Super Mega b Joe Lider, Rey Latino
Super Mega eliminated both men for the win. He asked for a title shot after the match, and Lider accepted.

Late and long running show, starting at 8:30 and not finishing until 12:30.

SuperLuchas: Mistico “Ya Firmo Con WWE!”

Cover of this week's SuperLuchas, on sale tonight

Mistico has signed a deal with WWE. There’s been a background talk about Mistico leaving CMLL of late, especially the last week, but nothing anyone was able to definitively confirm until now. I had heard multiple rumors about his destination, but WWE had always seemed the most likely. He’s expected to head to Florida Championship Wrestling, where he’ll join Alex Koslov (and Hijo de Medico Asesino!) as luchadors training for WWE.

Mistico’s last Arena Mexico match was January 18th, the two fall loss in the main event where Porky got mad at Mistico. Mistico worked the two show NJPW tour and has not been in a CMLL ring since. It’s possible he may work a final show or two in CMLL if his Florida commitment doesn’t start right away, but he’s obviously out of the Dos Leyendas plans. Friday’s Averno/Dorada feuding was intended to create a replacement match (or relevos tag partners.)

CMLL almost certainly owns the Mistico gimmick, though WWE would likely given him their own anyway. CMLL probably won’t put someone new in the suit, because they’ve been building Sombra up as the replacement lead tecnico for about 10 months already. Astro Boy, Mistico’s brother, probably won’t be affected only because they barely use him as is.

Mistico likely told CMLL he was leaving in late December, or maybe around when the CMLL/NJPW cards first came out, because it would explain why NJPW announced Mistico as working those cards while CMLL didn’t have him listed. Even though CMLL probably knew he was on his way out, Mistico did beat Negro Casas and Ultimo Guerrero (by DQ) in singles matches during the last month.

Alberto Del Rio’s success was the catalyst for Mistico jumping to WWE. Dos Caras Jr. was never great in CMLL, but has gotten over great in WWE. The line of thinking – and not just for Mistico – is if a guy who never really got over much in Mexico got over that easily in the US, it should be easy for bigger stars to succeed. I’m not sure that’s true – a lot of Alberto’s success is due to WWE deciding he was going to be be a big star, real quick – but it definitely gives Mexican wrestlers more faith in the company compared to how guys like the Mexicools were used.

UPDATE: The article states Mistico flew to the US to sign the WWE contract this past Tuesday, and CMLL did not find out until after the fact. Mistico had previously been open with CMLL about any contact with WWE, but had kept CMLL out of the loop recently. His most recent tryout match was – in California – was without CMLL’s permission. Leaving like this likely precludes Mistico from returning unless there are massive changes in CMLL leadership between now and then.

The article – which you can purchase here – gives the impression that if Mistico were to do it all over again, he would’ve joined WWE after his original tryout in 2007.

Averno relieves Dorada of mask, Sangre Azteca gives in

CMLL (FRI) 01/28/2011 Arena Mexico [CMLLSuperLuchas]
1) Tigre Blanco & TruenoCholo & Mortiz
2) Estrellita, La Comandante, TiffanyGoya Kong, Lluvia, Luna Mágica
3) EléctricoAstral [lightning]
revenge from the bodybuilding contest. Astral beat Electrico there, but not in this match. Electrico won in 8:45.
4) Ángel de Oro, Sagrado, Stuka Jr.Misterioso II, Pólvora, Sangre Azteca
straight fall win for the tecnicos. Misterioso and Polvora turned on Sangre rather quick, pulling his mask. Angel de Oro extended a hand to Sangre and suggested he join the tecnico side, but Azteca was too hurt to consider.
5) Máximo, Rush, ToscanoTerrible, Texano, Volador Jr.
Rush and Texano continued to have issues.
6) Hijo del Fantasma, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada DQ Averno, Mephisto, Negro Casas
Averno yanked Mascara Dorada’s mask for the DQ. There were post match challenges, and the Avernos ended up with all the tecnicos masks.

Ras de Lona was heavy on interviews of guys who went on the Japan tour. They aired outtakes at the end of the show, which included JCR doing his Alberto del Rio impersonation.

Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 02/04/2011 Arena Mexico
1) Astro Boy & Bengala vs Apocalipsis & Bronco
2) Pequeño Maximo, Shockercito, Último Dragoncito vs Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito
3) Ángel Azteca Jr., Ángel de Oro, Ángel de Plata vs Cancerbero, Raziel, Virus
4) Hijo del Fantasma vs Olímpico [lightning match]
5) La Máscara, Máximo, Sangre Azteca vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Texano, Volador Jr.
6) La Sombra, Máscara Dorada, Super Porky vs Averno, Mephisto, Último Guerrero

Sangre Azteca starts on the tecnico side teaming old rival La Mascara. Surprising that he’s getting Dragon Rojo on the other side, and not Polvora or Misterioso.

Mascara Dorada/Averno seems to be the new feud of the week.

No Mistico. Mistico has not appeared on any CMLL show since before 01/18 except for the NJPW tour, and he was looking anything but injured there. Hmmm.
