Mascara & Negro Casas move on to face Atlantis & Mascara Dorada next week.

Not a lot of internal team issues. SuperLuchas mentions some Negro/Mascara strife, but no one else picked up on it, and they did win. Garza did rip up Mascara’s mask in the main event. Cesar says Garza & Toscano were the best unit, and they should’ve been since they’re the only regular team. No mixed team gear this week, though that would make sense for next week.

DQ was for the rudos throwing Angel Azteca over the top rope.

Fuego en el Ring talks to the Cancerbros, who explain they had the idea that they should all wear similar gear, so people would know that they were a team. (Well, yes.)

Tiniablas Sr. continues to talk about his retirement tour. He says wrestles about 90% of his matches outside of Mexico City, because there’s more money elsewhere. He’s going to retire from lucha libre, but not movies or TV. He feels it would be a fraud if he put his mask on the line when he says he’s already retiring.

40 thoughts to “IWRG, Negro/Mascara advance, lineups”

  1. Really wish they wouldn’t have made it a 6 match show next week but part of the “nuevo era” seems to be more matches per show and faster matches w/ more action.

The big test will be on 2/12 when they have no special matches to run and we see how the card is booked. Also gonna be interesting to see how TV is handled next week.

Not too interested in Tuesday’s lineup outside of the main event. Why team up Cancerbero with Nosferatu? They aren’t in the same stable and it will just confuse everyone since Nosferatu looks exactly like Cancerbero.

Also is it just me or this is the first time in quite a long time that the same group got booked for both Tuesday and Friday’s show? 4 people working both shows. I feel like that’s rare.

  2. XEJ still offline. I keep forgetting to check it during the week to see if it just gets turned off on the weekend or the link is completely dead.

  3. Tuareg vs Angel Azteca/Air Force are opening the show. Awesomely, Loco Max and Arkangel are all wearing Skandalo’s shirt to the ring.

  4. “Leono & Tony Rivera vs Durango Kid & Inquisidor
    2) Estrella Mágica, Lluvia, Marcela vs Hiroka, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sujei
    3) Hijo del Fantasma vs Rey Bucanero [lightning]
    4) Blue Panther, Héctor Garza, Shocker vs Averno, Mephisto, Terrible
    5) Atlantis & Máscara Dorada vs La Máscara & Negro Casas [natl pi, final]
    6) Místico vs Volador Jr” No La Sombra. Will he play a factor in the main event ?? Hmmm, interesting.

  5. @Alan: Should be Black Spirit, yeah.

Was hoping mini’s would also make the cut for the main show w/ such short tournament matches but oh well. At least LA FUERZA AEREA are back!

  6. 52MX has
Ángel Azteca Jr., Ángel de Plata, Fabián el Gitano b Puma King, Skándalo, Tiger Kid
Rush, Sagrado, Toscano b Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca

  7. IWRG appears to actually have:
El Hijo del Diablo & Gringo Loco b Black Terry & Dr. Cerebro
Hijo de Pirata Morgan & Pirata Morgan b Brazo de Plata & Brazo de Plata Jr.
and Fuerza Guerrera & Juventud Guerrera and Máscara Año 2000 & Máscara Año 2000 Jr. [IWRG IC TAG, semifinal]

  8. I believe there’s a law requiring every out of the ring brawl in Arena Naucalpan to include someone going face first into the freezer.

  9. The end of the Toscano/Garza vs Guerrero/Stuka match wasn’t actually confusing on TV. Toscano pinned Stuka with….a vicious vertical suplex!

  10. @Alan: YAY!:D That’s fantastic news. I guess last week there was just no Momentos to air b/c they didn’t tape TV the previous week.

  11. C3 mini’s match wasn’t bad. Pequeno Universo is getting better. Pequeno Nitro too. Fantasy wrestles exactly like a part-timer… just wants to do his usual spots and nothing more. Shame b/c he started off in CMLL looking like he had a bright future.

  12. Great match between Angel Dorado Jr. and Simbolo. Angel is too good to just be in ACM. CMLL or AAA should sign him up.

  13. @Tim: I saw the dive, where they (?) started going off about CMLL. That was weird!

My guide legit believes there’s a show that starts at :08. I’ve told it to record a half hour late just so that would not happen, so I should have a full recording (and that match) this week and form now on.

ACM does a much better job of graphics than Teleforulma, that’s for sure.

  14. Casas & La Mascara? Meh I’m underwhelmed, but at least they picked the one Brazo in CMLL with a decent physical shape (must have inherited his mother’s genes)

  15. Just watched the minis match from Fox Sports and it was so so at best. The highlight of the show was some old school footage of Porky from the back in the day. If they did more of this and less of the dance intermissions, the short matches would feel more acceptable.

  16. OK, I’m going to the Perros show tomorrow and living in fear of how they are going to go forward. Here is my worse case scenario prediction which I’m throwing out here largely in hopes that if I say it out loud it won’t actually happen.

The Charly/XFly match was hyped more than anything else on the card at this point. That is probably because they have been on the recent cards and so they could run angles to set it up in advance, but it feels like they are actually trying to build up XFly. If he wins this match and they continue the feud, my fear is that they try to treat it as big enough so that they can move him and Charly up and put them into a six man cage stip match with Perro, PARK, Demon, and Santo. Clearly this would be a joke and a horrible move, but it seems to easy for them to not do it. It gives the promotion a chance to deliver a stip match with the top guys in it, but makes everyone look like a joke.

Hopefully I’m wrong, but tomorrow is the last day of January and XFly hasn’t dropped his hair yet this year. He’ll clearly be doing it again soon, so all I can do is hope that they just let Charly take it in a singles match instead of acting like they are doing something much bigger.

  17. Alan, that actually makes a ton of sense. I hope they do not do that, but if they were to do that, X-Fly would be such an obvious loser they would almost have to use it as a red herring and have Charly or Perrito lose. Unless Blue Demon is dropping the hood (possible, but I don’t think so).

  18. Heading out to the Perros show now. I’ll post results (and probably pictures) later tonight.

  19. One initial random thought from today’s show before I go into the recap. While wandering to the Official Perros Merchandise stand, the Official Blue Demon Merchandise Stand, and the Official Santo Merchandise stand, it occurred to me that probably the biggest thing that should come out of these groups working together would be some sort of deal where they all agreed to sell each other’s merch. If Santo’s shops stocked Perros’ stuff, the Perros’ office stocked all of their merchandise, and if Demon’s place stocked everything too it seems like they could all make some decent money. They should also work together at the Expo and other events like that.

  20. OK, here are a few basic notes first. TVC Deportes crew is there taping this for TV (no surprise there). The show was set up way better than their debut show a year ago with separate entrances for ringside and bleachers. I thought this was a very good crowd, looking like they sold pretty much everything they made available. In another change from the last time through, they moved the ring further to one side and blocked off a couple of sections of the bleachers (probably 25% at most). I’m horrible at crowd estimates, but it should look good on TV. Doors probably opened around 3:00 with the show starting sometime around 3:30 I’d guess. All of the matches except the opener and Super Libre were 2/3 falls which surprised me since the TV has seemed to be all single fall matches. My guess is that they are editing things down to look like single falls on TV so that they can get three matches in each hour. Thanks to my lovely wife, we were sitting front row facing the entrance, probably three or rour seats off center.

    1. Turbo over Black Thunder. One fall match here which was as fun as you would expect from these two. I would have liked to see Skayde and Black Spirit here too, but a nice quick match between these two to get the show going.

    2. Mini Parkita/Cosmico over Mr. Aguilita/Talisman. Pretty much a straight comedy bout here. A few decent spots, but nothing special. I’m starting to be pretty sure that Talisman isn’t all that good, and I wasn’t that impressed with this Parkita. I really wish Halloweencito would return and it would be great if they could grab Tzuki or someone to be the regular second tecnico. Hey, he’d only have two shows a month to noshow then! Crowd seemed OK with this, but it isn’t what I’m looking for in a Minis match.

    3. Super Crazy/Pesadilla/Veneno over Lizmark Jr/Super Nova/Celestial. In terms of “Gran Sorpresas” at a show in Mexico, Super Crazy is about as much as I can ask for. I was scared we were going to get Scorpio Jr or someone here. Crazy’s thumb did seem to be hurting him, and I feel like he has put on a little weight since I saw him a year ago. Interesting to see him working the rudo side here. Pretty fun match overall. I’m pretty sure it was Celestial who did the dive off the balcony this time. He also may have hurt himself on a move from the top where Crazy moved out of the way at the end of the match. Crazy pinned him after a vicious powerbomb and he was helped to the back. Saw a stretcher head backstage immediately after the match. I’d like to see Crazy working these shows on a more regular basis, but not sure if we are headed in that direction or not.

    3. Charly Manson NC XFly. OK, I’m not actually sure if this was a no contest or if Charly won. What I am sure of is that these matches are horrible to try to follow live, and even worse from the front row. The match was bloody and saw wooden crates, plastic crates, a cheese grater, guitar, chairs, and a car come into play. Lots of brawling everywhere including right in front of us to start the match. Match ended somewhere over by the car with Tirantes counting to 20 from the turnbuckles in the ring. I have no idea if this means that neither wrestler could answer the count or if Charly was on his feet and they counted XFly down. Charly’s music played first to end the match for whatever that is worth. The only match of the night that probably would have been better from the bleachers. My wife and the woman next to us both felt this was a little too bloody for them to see from the front row.

    5. Halloween/Damian 666/ Mr. Aguila over Hijo del Dr. Wagner/Oriental/Grond XXX. It was fun to see the Perros trio back together again. They all came out to Familia de TJ theme music which was nice, but they probably could have gotten the crowd more into it with the basic Perros theme. Aguila wore his old mask to the ring. And the Perros were right a couple of days ago when they pointed out that Wagner’s kid is green, Grond is awful, and Oriental is the only decent worker in the bunch. I will say this, Wagner’s kid is tall, looking like he might have a couple of inches on Gronda. But he is skinny as hell and looks very young when his mask gets torn. Pretty much what you would expect here which was fun live, but who knows how it will come across on TV. Halloween attempts to put Oriental through the announce table, but it doesn’t work so well. Aguila and Wagner brawled into the crowd at one point very near us. They also squared off after the match, so maybe they will try to build something there. Damian pins Oriental for the final fall after pulling his mask off and getting the quick count from Tirantes.

    3. Hijo del Santo/LA PARK over Hijo del Perro Aguayo/Blue Demon Jr. by DQ. Tension was teased between members of both teams of course most of the way through this of course. Santo and Demon opened the match up with some mat wrestling which was a nice change for a Perros show. Perro and Demon win the first fall with Demon over PARK and Perro over Santo. Santo gets Perro in the second with the Camel Clutch while PARK takes out Demon with a dive. Announce table comes into play in the third fall with PARK trying several times to put Perro through it before succeeding on about the fourth attempt after getting it into the ring. Perro gets Santo with a low blow, Tirantes starts to count, stops at two and calls for the bell and the DQ. Perro and Demon argue, Perro suggests that they have a one fall match between the teams, but noone is interested. PARK shakes hands with Santo (after giving him the finger to start the match) and suggests that Santo and Perro go one on one for one fall. Santo says not right now, but suggests that one day they will meet mascara contra caballera. Perro suggests that they change partners for one fall and go Perro/PARK vs Santo/Demon. Santo and Demon agree and they pretend to start a match before Perro starts to walk out. PARK finally leaves and Santo and Demon chase Perro around a little before everyone leaves the ring. Santo and Demon shake hands before leaving.

This was the first time I had seen Demon, and he wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. Oh, the power of lowered expectations. Only the second time I had seen Santo with the other being the cage match at TripleMania. He is still impressive at his age and can put on a decent show. The crowd actually got on Perro a bit for the first time at a show I have been too since the opener when Wagner had his share of fans who boo’d during the Perros beatdown on him at the end of the show. Perro looked like he was enjoying getting some negative attention from the crowd for a change. Overall, it was fun to see these four in a match, and this was a good start if you want to believe they can actually build toward something bigger. Even if they can’t build to the cage match, they can probably square off in different combinations before winding up with a Perros vs Santo/Demon/PARK at some point. They should be able to drag this out and keep it interesting for a while at least if everyone keeps playing nice. And I can always dream that Perro might be willing to drop his hair for his promotion at some point.

  21. @Alan: Awesome recap, Alan.

Very excited to see Turbo vs Black Thunder. Never seen them in a singles match before and even it goes short any time those two work together (especially when Skayde is involved too) is just gold. About as close to perfect as wrestling gets in my opinion.

I don’t know what to think of the rest of the show so I’ll wait to see it on TV. It really seems like a show that will come off better live than on TV. That’s how most of the PdM shows seem. There is nothing going on until the main event. It’s just a mix of everyone who can’t get work in CMLL or AAA doing their thing wtih no direction. Then you have the main event with the stars brawling to a DQ finish and teasing matches that will never happen. It comes off more like a once a month supershow than a TV promotion which is what Perrito seems to want.

It’s good that they drew good though b/c hopefully that will lead to better things. I’d be interested to see what they could do with better TV and more financial backing to let them run bigger shows. This crew seems like it’d be stale to see on TV weekly. What can you really do with guys like Lizmark Jr., Veneno, X-Fly, Oriental, etc.?

  22. Also I find it humorous that that every recap of the show on the Box y Lucha forum starts with 10-12 pictures of the edecanes except for yours… i.e. the guy who was there with his wife. Smart man.;)

  23. @Rob: Really, we were just discussing and don’t remember seeing any dancers at all. We thought there was just on ring girl who came out at the start of each match.

The current Perros product definitely works way better live than as a TV show. With that being said, I kind of like their hourly TV. You get one pretty good match each week (particularly if they can improve the minis again) and then something from the top of the card. I’d like to see them get into some bigger venues and actually have a payoff to a main event feud, but that will hopefully come if they are able to do anything with the TV.

Why’d you have to lump Oriental in with those guys? Actually I don’t have much of a problem with Veneno even

  24. @Alan: HOLY BATMAN, ALAN! TURBO VS BLACK THUNDER WAS UNBELIEVABLE! I CAN’T STOP TYPING IN CAPS AFTER WATCHING THAT MATCH!

    *deep breath*

    CAN’T STOP!

    *deeper breath*

Fucking amazing match. Easily an early MOTYC for me and I don’t care what anyone says otherwise. The innovation was off the fucking charts which is an automatic bonus point or two and they worked such a brilliant match countering each others moves. Not to mention all the strikes in between the spots were great since you rarely see that kind of stuff in Mexico. I can’t even put into words how much I enjoyed every second of that match.

    PURE BRILLIANCE!

The PdM promotion can fold tomorrow and still be a success after giving me Skayde vs Turbo and Turbo vs Black Thunder.

REMATCH! PLEASE! THIS WEEKEND IN ECTAPEC!

BTW, the camera work was much better than previous shows. Building looked amazing on TV.
