Comando Negro & Joe Lider win, lots of lineups

indy (SAT) 12/25 Auditorio de Tijuana [DJ Spectro]
1) Junior & Zaeta b Scream & Tazmania
2) Cinico, Viento, Zarco b Jonathan, Kenoe, Spark
3) Angel Metalico, Extasis, Rubi Gardenia b Camaleon Negro, Maquiavelico, Tony Casanvoa
4) Arandú, Star Boy, TJ Boy b Camaleon de Oro, Kendo, Super Astro
5) Blue Demon Jr., El Hijo Del Santo, Latin Lover b Bestia 666, Damián 666, Halloween

Main event was advertised as a three way, but the Perros showed up before the match and turned it into a trios. (So they didn’t advertise them, I guess.) Latin Lover was booed and walked out of the match for a while, but came back and his team won. Demon and Santo teased they’d do the mask match right here right now if only security wouldn’t keep them apart.

I’m guessing the policy against working with Santo does not apply to Latin Lover.

IWRG (SUN) 12/26 Arena Naucalpan [Mi Lucha Libre, Mi Lucha Libre (2), Black Terry Jr. (flickr)]
1) Epidemia b Tonatiuh
2) Miss Gaviota & Sexy Lady b Ludark Shaitan & Sexy Primavera
3) Chico Che, Dinamic Black, El Hijo de Aníbal b Eterno, Magia Negra, Veneno
4) Joe Lider b Dr. Cerebro [DTU]
5) Comando Negro b El Pollo [mask]

Pollo looks too young to be Brillante (Jose Salas), so @billzero suggested he may be Kevin (Juan Salas) using Brillante’s name. Brillante was on the Ras de Lona prior to Dos Leyendas (at the public workouts to hype that match) and did not look like the unmasked man.

Lider beat Cerebro with a double stomp to a chair to a head. And just like that, the IWRG guy lost another feud in IWRG. He still has his hair, for now. Speaking of hair: Joe Lider supposedly lost that hair vs (a) Pierroth Jr.’s mask match on Christmas, but he seemed to have the same hair as usual here.

Veneno and Anibal still have issues.

Black Terry Jr. posted video of Joe Lider vs Dr. Cerebro (part 2.) Pollo vs Comando Negro is just going up.

Black Terry Jr. also has video of Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerbero vs Guerrero Negro, Mike Segura, Veneno from the Arena Neza Christmas show (part 2 and part 3). Segunda Caida has a review of that match.

Super Nova is still committed to Lucha Libre USA, and mentions trips to Turkey and India. I’m actually more concerned that Kru Demon has the same leather jacket as Super Fly. Maybe he’s the missing piece?

Cesar can’t figure out why Averno, survivor a thousand clean jobs, couldn’t (or wouldn’t) do one last Friday night.

MedioTiempo has their list of the top 15 lucha libre stories of the year (includes WWE).

Over on El Martiente, JAVIERxtreme has a nice list of current Mexico City lucha gyms.

A baseball game in Guanajuato ended in a 7-7 tie due to lack of lights. They had working lights, but they were damaged during AAA’s last show there.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Lineups

CMLL (MON) 12/27 Arena Puebla
1) Stigma & Tigre Rojo vs Fuerza Chicana & Karisma
2) Aereo, Bam Bam, Fantasy vs Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Universo 2000
3) Fuego, Metal Blanco, Palacio Negro vs Nosferatu, Raziel, Virus
4) Máximo, Rush, Toscano vs Felino, Shigeo Okumura, Yoshihashi
5) Brazo de Plata, La Sombra, Místico vs Atlantis, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero

Tercera looks great. The story on the show can’t figure out why CMLL split up Peste Negra on this show. I think it’s so there’s someone actually good in the semimain.

indy (SAT) 01/01 Arena Neza
1) Solar I, Último Dragón, Ultraman vs Black Terry, Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Negro Navarro
2) El Hijo Del Santo & Rayo de Jalisco Jr. vs Blue Demon Jr. & El Hijo del Solitario

There’s more, but Santo needs to post his posters in a big larger size. People banned from working with CMLL people? I don’t know if they’re still doing that. On the other hand, there was a day not long ago when this would surely out draw CMLL’s show here on Christmas, and now I’m not sure.

CMLL (SAT) 01/01 Arena Mexico
1) Bengala & Camaleón vs Apocalipsis & Inquisidor
2) Goya Kong, Lluvia, Marcela vs Princesa Sujei, Tiffany, Zeuxis
3) Delta vs Ángel de Oro, Diamante, Ángel de Plata, Fuego, Rey Cometa, Pegasso, Guerrero Maya Jr., Pólvora, Virus, Raziel, Cancerbero, Arkángel de la Muerte, Puma King, Escorpion, Tiger Kid [Reyes del Aire]
4) Hijo del Fantasma, Máximo, Rotoporky vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
5) La Sombra, Máscara Dorada, Místico vs Felino, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero

Main event tecnicos are going to be so booed. Sombra & Dorada are likely off to to Japan after this show.

Dragon Rojo celebrates his win by not being on the show. The serious feud of Mephisto & Fantasma involved Porky and Son this week.

They remembered to run the Reyes del Aire this year! They also did on a week where it won’t air on TV, unless they save it 12 months for next year’s Best Of. Tecnicos vs rudos this year, so the King Of Flyers might be notable high spot artist Polvora. Should make it good for catchine people and such, but they could find eight other tecnicos to be in this match easy. I assume Angels or Double D are winning another thing. Cesar has a longer preview.

Tiffany’s first match here in a month. No Estrellita.

CMLL

CMLL (SUN) 01/02 Arena Mexico
1) Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío II vs Camorra & Cholo
2) Leono, Molotov, Starman vs Dr. X, Durango Kid, Nitro
3) Eléctrico, Mascarita Dorada, Último Dragoncito vs Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Warrior
4) Ángel de Oro, Diamante, Rush vs Metal Blanco, Palacio Negro, Sagrado [#1 Contenders, MEX TRIOS, final]
5) Místico, Rotoporky, Toscano vs El Alebrije, Olímpico, Psicosis

I don’t like the idea of Rush, Diamante or Angel de Oro being the base for the wacky GDL moves, but maybe it’ll surprise me. This was announced as an Arena Coliseo show originally.

CMLL (SUN) 01/02 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Javier Cruz Jr. vs Nube Roja
2) Hierro & Horus vs Evola & León Blanco
3) Ángel de Plata & Sensei vs Loco Max & Ráfaga
4) Ángel Azteca Jr., Gallo, Metro vs Euforia, Pólvora, Shigeo Okumura
5) Blue Panther, La Máscara, Valiente vs Atlantis, Averno, Ephesto

The poster is great. The show, I dunno.

Rush, Angel de Oro, Diamante move on, chicken loses his head

Mercurio

CMLL (SUN) 12/26 Arena Mexico [CMLL, Cesar]
1) Freesbe & Tigre BlancoArtillero & Súper Comando
2) Aereo, Mascarita Dorada, Último DragoncitoMercurio, Pequeño Universo 2000, Pequeño Warrior
3) Cancerbero, Raziel, VirusÁngel Azteca, Ángel de Plata, Guerrero Maya Jr. [MEX TRIOS, quarterfinal, #1 Contenders]
4) Ángel de Oro, Diamante, RushDurango Kid, Puma King, Tiger Kid [#1 Contenders, MEX TRIOS, quarterfinal]
5) Ángel de Oro, Diamante, RushCancerbero, Raziel, Virus [#1 Contenders, MEX TRIOS, semifinal]
6) Ephesto, Mephisto, Sangre AztecaArkángel de la Muerte, Máximo, Metro
7) Místico, Rotoporky, ToscanoAverno, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero

Usual finish to the main event.

Arkangel replaced Fuego. That went well until Maximo kissed Arkangel by mistake, and Arkangel turned on his team. No sign of the Sangre Azteca turn.

As expected, Rush’s team won. He appeared to suffer a reoccurrance of his chronic shoulder dislocations in the first match, but still finished with the win. Not much was made of it outside of CMLL’s Twitter, so perhaps it wasn’t too serious after all. Fans were cheering the Cancerbero after the main event.

If Rush, Angel de Oro, and Diamante win next week, and they’re the heavy favorites, then the title match will be The Guy Who Won The Poll versus The Two Guys Who Did Not Win The Poll But Are Basically Doing Just As Well. Cesar has a longer piece pointing out how this tournament is really not helping to elevate anyone.

Mercurio has already appeared in GDL and Puebla, but this was his DF debut. I thought he looked like a good prospect on GDL.

Black Terry Jr. has photos from tonight’s Arena Naucalpan show. Pollo lost his mask to Comando Negro. He gave his name as José Andrade, from Gomez Palacio, 18 years a wrestler. Jose Andrade is also the real name of Brillante Sr., father of Sombra. He’s also from Gomez Palacio. This is all probably not a coincidence! “His father was wrestling as a giant chicken” is the only possible reason not to vote for Sombra as wrestler of the year.

Edit: @billzero figured out this is actually former AAA wrestler Kevin, who’s Brillante Sr.’s brother.

Dragon Rojo wins Copa Jr., Hermano Muerte III loses his mask

CMLL (SAT) 12/25 Arena Mexico [CMLL, CesarSuperLuchas]
1) Horus & RobinBronco & Inquisidor
2) Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño WarriorEléctrico, Fantasy, Shockercito
3) Hijo del Fantasma, Sagrado, Valiente DQ Ephesto, Mephisto, Sangre Azteca
4) Dragón Rojo Jr. DQ Averno [Copa Jr., final]
5) Blue Panther, La Máscara, MísticoAtlantis, Terrible, Texano Jr.

Sounds and looked like a good turnout for a holiday show.

Some changes in match order and participation here. Copa Junior was announced as the main event, but turned out to be the semimain. Main event was totally unnoteworthy – Mistica on Atlantis – so it didn’t need to the main event.

Maybe someone decided the finish to the tournament was too underwhelming to be the main event. It was certainly too underwhelming for the end of a twenty man tournament. It was three fall match with each taking an early fall. Finish saw the ref go down, Dragon Rojo foul Averno, the ref being distracted from the pin, Averno fouling Dragon Rojo, and the ref seeing that foul. Dragon was able to get pinfall wins over Mascara, Sombra and Volador, but not Averno in the final?

It’s very possible they’ll be back against each other next week, because CMLL’s announced Rey del Aires for next Saturday. It’s nice they remembered to run it for 2011, but we would not expect it to make TV anywhere (except maybe TFN a year or  two from now?)

Mephsito pulled off Fantasma’s mask for the DQ.

Warrior returned with facepaint to replace his mask.

Tirantes returned as referee on this show.

Hermano Muerte III/Black Terry Jr.

CMLL (SAT) 12/25 Arena Neza [Black Terry Jr.]
1) Pavor & Zeiya b Kiva & Leopardo Negro
2) Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro b Guerrero Negro, Mike Segura, Veneno
3) Hermano Muerte III L Dr. X, Cocolores, Puma King, Skándalo, Delta, Neza Kid, Nitro, Coco Blanco, Dralion, Starman, Tiger Kid, Carta Brava [cage, mask]
4) Averno & Místico b Dragón Rojo Jr. & Mephisto

Averno & Mephisto fought just like in the recent GDL match. Dragon Rojo celebrated his Copa win by losing to La Mistica.

Tiger turned on Puma in a cage match again. Maybe they’re just going to do that in every cage match. Final three were Cocolores, Dr. X, and Hermano Muerte III. Hermano Muerte II tried to stop Cocolores from leaving, but the Payaso eventually snuck by to escape. Hermano Muerte III was exhausted in his fight with D.r X, and fell to a nudo. Hermano Muerte III is Juan Cárdenas Romero, 15 years a wrestler, from DF.

Veneno turned on his teammates in the segunda.

CMLL hasn’t put up their lineup for next Friday yet.

Saturday Open Post

Not a lot from last night. Plenty today, so maybe another post tonight or Sunday morning.

Ras de Lona was part 1 of a 3 year in review of the big matches. Mistico’s entire rudo turn seemed to get a minimal amount of attention.

Rob has reviews of AAA 02/18 Toluca, 01/31/10 Perros del Mal, 02/08/10 Puebla and 02/13/10 CMLL (the first big Volador/Mistico match.)

DJ Spectro has his picks for the best of 2010 and predictions for 2011.

Picking Averno over Dragon Rojo.

quick links

Nothing going on today. No CMLL show tonight, postponed until tomorrow.

12/25-26 Lucha Times

box. Not too much in the way of Christmas schedule changes, though the two ‘main’ shows head into virtual reruns.

AAA-US: part of one of Guerra de Titanes, with Zorro vs Dr. Wagner, Super Fly with the rudos, and the TLC match. Saturday afternoon’s airing is one hour later, but the other two are at their normal times.

52MX: probably just Block A of the tag team tournament, with the GDL debuts.

LATV: a rerun!

TeleFormula: Sombra vs Dragon Rojo

——-

CMLL: listed as just one hour. Best of 2010 announced, but no specifics.

AAA: start of the year in review, up to Rey de Reyes. Nothing new on this show for a while to come.

CMLL-FOX: women’s match + the doom of Shocker

C3: Invasrs vs Fantasma/Mascara/Dorada

Mega6GDL: bonus match is Angels vs Tuareg, not exactly a unique match.

Puebla: tag title match! Hard to believe trivia: In replacing Shocker, Valiente got his first shot at any ‘CMLL’ branded title. He’d never gotten a title match for any of the others.

ACM: a match. I think RJ says he was doing a match with CMLL wrestlers, so maybe the trios main event with Dorada and Dragon Rojo.

Perros: this past week was the last of the Arena Aficion matches (opener never aired), so maybe stuff from Merida?

IWRG: Mascaras wins, DTU/Cerebros draws.

—–

CMLL-TFN: jumped ahead a week somewhere in here, so this is the week with Porky/Dorada/Mistico vs Mephisto/Terrible/Texano
