Super Fly and his fans

Deportivo Metropolitano de Neza, 10/31/2010

Cinthia Moreno, Gato Eveready, Mari Apache vs Kayuga, Oyuki, Yuriko: I don’t know if Gato Eveready would be better off in CMLL (he could bring back the Jaguar gimmick and fill out the Cometa/Pegasso trio) but I do know he’d be on my TV more than once every three weeks and that’d be fantastic.

Best possible all feline match at the moment
Blue Panther, Gato Eveready, Bengala, Tigre Blanco vs Puma King, Tiger Kid, Felino, Tiger Cota

Aerostar, Laredo Kid, Súper Fly vs Billy Boy, Chris Stone, Decnnis: It so weird to have Super Fly walk out well before the finish, but I guess when a group of people planted to grab onto you, you don’t waste no time.

Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown vs Damián 666, Halloween, Super Crazy: If the idea is that the Psycho Circus have snapped and become Monsters, then maybe Joaquin Roldan shouldn’t feel all that comfortable stepping in the ring and yelling at them. Least favorite character on TV.

Cuervo & Ozz vs Chessman & Zorro: Odd meeting of rudos who are usually there to make the other team look good. And, hey, Ozz & Cuervo looked good so it worked. Skull Mask has quickly switched from a guy who nearly killed Octagon to just another random henchman.

Dragon/UG retain tag titles, Hijo de Cien Caras

CMLL (SUN) 11/28 Arena Neza [Rudos de Neza @ flickr, The Gladiatores]
1) Gran Cachorro & Zumba b Boras & Taurus
2) Astro Boy & Bengala b Artillero & Súper Comando
3) Diamante, Metálico, Neza Kid b Dralion, Puma King, Tiger Kid
4) Ángel de Oro, Ángel de Plata, Delta b Dr. X, Nitro, Skándalo, Taurus
5) La Máscara, La Sombra, Máximo b Shigeo Okumura, Taichi, Yoshihashi
6) Dragón Rojo Jr. & Último Guerrero b Olímpico & Psicosis II [CMLL TAG]

Referee Toby was the scheduled referee for the main event, but the Invasors protested and got Tirantes as the ref instead. After they split the first two falls, Tirantes slow counted the champions in the third, so the commission sent Toby back in the match to count the three count. Invasors were displeased.

Nitro was apparently running late, because local wrestler Taurus took his place in the first fall. Rudos lost, Nitro showed up, and Taurus tagged his way all the way out of the match. Skandalo stole Angel de Oro’s mask to take the second fall, and Angel de Oro repaid the favor in the third. After the match, Skandalo challenged Angel de Oro to a mask match, and Angel de Oro accepted the match for this building on Christmas Day. Which would be very interesting.

However, Dralion and Neza Kid are still feuding and also challenged each other to an apuesta match. It sounds like the two matches may be combined in to one and only one of those four (the locals) would lose their mask.

Metalico replaced Rey Cometa. We don’t have any results for Rey Cometa in three weeks (a week or so after Pegasso got hurt), unless he showed up in Arena Puebla last night.

Attendance was usual for CMLL in the building (not good.)

Hijo de Cien Caras notes

A wake was held yesterday, with luchadors from all promotions visitng. Hijo de Cien Caras’ body is being sent back home to Monclova. SuperLuchas points out a long video interview with him via Amo de La Lucha from earlier this year.

CMLL held a moment of applause for Hijo de Cien Caras at Arena Puebla. Volador Jr., in the main event, talks about his cousin and the lack of security in Mexico in the article.

The police told La Presna that there were two shooters who killed Hijo de Cien Caras and the woman he was with, and they left the scene in a black Neon. They presume it was a case of revenge and note the woman, Adela Luna, was separated from her husband for two years. It seems like they have a pretty good idea who is responsible. I’m not linking to the article, because they’re using a police photo of both bodies as they were found in the car. They’re not the only ones, and you can find them on your own if you’d like.

Other news: has put up the poll to decide the new member of the Stuka & Metro trio, replacing Mascara Dorada. They label as “choose a new member of the trio“, not champions, so maybe someone decided they wouldn’t be able to insert someone as a champion.

The choices are Angel de Oro, Delta and Diamante. That’s the right level, but those are three guys who CMLL does a lot with already and appear to really like. Which means they’re exactly the people a contrarian like me doesn’t want to vote for. Boo! Also, as Cesar notes, the winner would be breaking up an existing group. Instead of finding a role for a guy who doesn’t have one, you’re causing one or two guys to lose their usual partner. My endorsement is for Diamante, but it’s not an enthusiastic one.

Cesar has a long piece on what a lot of people have been saying: CMLL’s made Tirantes the top rudo and the only difference between the Invasors and the rest of CMLL, at the cost of the whole storyline. Tirantes has been good in his role, but there’s been way too much emphasis on him, with nothing else going on for the Invasors and weak explanations of why he gets away with it.

In CMLL PR to hype their match, Latin Lover says he’s wrestling in CMLL to support his four kids. Prometo uses this as a jumping off point to accuse Latin of being broke and washed up. (Forecast is calling for a 100% chance of a Daniel comment below.) Also, it’s not a jump from AAA because they stopped working together in March and now it’s November, though that seems to be about the same length of for Psicosis and the Invasors to be leeching off AAA’s popularity by showing up in CMLL. I can’t figure the math on that one.

Prometo is already teetering on the edge of ‘not being interesting enough to link’, but it was hilarious that a blog that’s very obviously written by someone who works for AAA spends time refuting the idea that someone with AAA would try to secretly manipulate fan’s opinions. If you’re not going to give me insight, please continue the comedy.

Averno vs Mephisto, Octagon attacker revealed, IWRG

CMLL (SUN) 11/28 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Virgo b Thunder Boy
2) Meteoro, Pequeño Halcón, Último Dragoncito b Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Universo 2000, Pierrothito
3) Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sujei, Zeuxis b Goya Kong, Lluvia, Silueta
4) Blue Panther, Brazo de Plata, Valiente b Ephesto, Ráfaga, Texano
5) Averno & Místico b Mephisto & Shocker [Relevos Increíbles]

Special main event, and a chance for Mistico to pull rudo/horn gear out from his closet. The expectation was Averno & Mephisto would just end up turning on their partners. Instead, they fought during the match and were challenging each other to a super libre match after. Mistico’s team took it with a foul on Mephisto.

Rafaga replaced Hector Garza. Goya Kong accidentally splashed Silueta to cause the loss for her team. Halcon was feuding with Pierrothito here. Amazing he happened to already be booked for shows again even before he won the bodybuilding contest.

On this week’s AAA TV, a pre-taped vignette revealed (one of) Octagon’s attackers. Here’s the segment.

They did get it done before Guerra de Titanes. Not sure why it was a pre-tape in Arena Naucalpan and not in front of the crowd, but at least it didn’t happen at the press conference.

CMLL says the next Sunday (DF) Fan Appreciation will be on 12/12. Volador vs Sombra will likely main event.

Tickets for Sin Salida run from $52 (MEX, $4) to $478 (MEX, $38)

Amo de Lucha Libre has footage of IWRG’s main event last night, and the debut AND unmasking of Gamos last night in the semimain. Hint: someone’s back in town.

Black Terry Jr. has video of a match I can’t place but appears to be Arena Naucaplan (trainee show?), and has updated his flickr site with a ton of pictures this weekend: shots from the AAA tapings in Leon, Toluca, and Six Flags as well as shows in Arena Lopez Mateos and Gimnasio Latino America (the training gym from the AAA game.)

11/29: Seiya Sanada, Manabu Soya, Kai b Ozz, Cuervo, Masada [Sanada pin Mazada]

Hijo de Cien Caras murdered

Ignacio Jimenez, 33 years old and best known as Hijo de Cien Caras, was murdered last night. A woman named Adela Luna, 42 (likely Jimenez’s wife), was also attacked, though reports vary about her status. Jimenez was not actually the son of Cien Caras, but rented that persona from Cien Caras. Jimenez was previously reported as a brother of LA Park and Super Parka.

Hijo del Cien Caras was seen lately as an IWRG wrestler. He also worked for Santo’s Todos x el Todos and other high end indy promotions around Mexico.  Earlier in this decade, he was a regular in CMLL’s Arena Coliseo Guadalajara, though he seems to have left there around the same time his brother also left CMLL. Hijo del Cien Caras most often teamed with Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., and the two were the IWRG Intercontinental Tag Team Champions until losing the belts last Sunday.

Hijo del Cien Caras had also appeared on AAA TV the last few months as part of the ongoing AAA vs IWRG angle, including appearing on TripleMania and challenging for AAA’s tag titles. Cien’s last appearance, from AAA’s last taping in Arena Naucalpan, will air this Sunday in the United States, when he shows up as a group of IWRG wrestlers.

El Universal’s story on the murder says Hijo del Cien Caras and Adela Luna were sitting in a car in front of a house when the killer walked up to the car, said nothing, and shot Caras four times before fleeing. Universal’s story says Luna was unhurt, though other stories on the incident say multiple bodies were identified.

Early reports misreported the deceased as Mascara Ano 2000, which was clearly incorrect based on the age and the name. It was presumed they meant Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., but it actually appears to be his tag team partner.  Cien’s body was identified by the Arena Naucalpan doctor. El Hijo del Santo confirmed the identify on Twitter.

Al Filo del Ring remembers Hijo de Cien Caras.

Noticias MVS says it was a double homicide, likely by someone who knew one of the two. Hijo del Cien Caras is also being called LA Park’s half-brother.

Mi Lucha Libre says he was actually 32.

Volador vs Sombra, Dragon vs Sangre, Mascara Jr./Mascara, lineups

CMLL (SUN) 11/28 Arena Coliseo [CMLL, Cesar]
1) Mortiz & ZaycoFreesbe & Principe
2) Guerrero Maya Jr., Sensei, Tigre BlancoBronco, Demus 3:16, Disturbio
3) Hooligan, Pólvora, VirusÁngel Azteca Jr., Fabián el Gitano, Fuego
4) Metro, Rush, SagradoDragón Rojo Jr., Negro Casas, Sangre Azteca
5) La Sombra, Strong Man, ToscanoAtlantis, Rey Bucanero, Volador Jr.

Last week, Volador pulled off Sombra’s mask and rolled him up for the win. This week, Sombra pulled off Volador’s mask and rolled him up for the win. Sombra challenged for an apuesta match; Volador was not down for that. Next week is a fan appreciation show, so perhaps they’ll have a singles match.

Every since Dragon Rojo joined Los Guerreros, Sangre Azteca has given angry interviews about how Dragon Rojo left without telling him, he doesn’t understand why, and Dragon Rojo and he still haven’t had a chance to talk. (Here’s the most recent version, this time without accusing Ultimo Guerrero of ruining his career.) Both Sangre & Dragon were also saying they had not talked since Dragon Rojo had left the group, which seemed very unlikely. Anyway, this is CMLL, where everyone teams with everyone, and this was finally the time where Dragon Rojo teamed with Sangre Azteca again. Sangre & Dragon did not work well as a team, started accidentally hitting each other, then started arguing totally on purpose. Negro Casas tried to play peace maker, but the team still lose in two falls. Dragon and Sangre declared war on each other after the match.

Hooligan replaced Nosferatu in the tercera.

Remember Tuesday, when Mascara Sagrada Jr. lost his mask to Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr.? Despite being best known under that name, and actually wearing his Super AAA gear, he used the “Mascara Jr.” ring name as to not offend AAA enough to get in trouble. That seems to have worked…for AAA. Arena Aficion’s deal with CMLL is now in jeopardy because CMLL feels a Mascara Jr. losing his mask is infringing on La Mascara’s name. It sounds like a decision has not been made but there are angry Brazos involved.

Maybe he really should’ve just used Mascara Sagrada Junior. As pointed out here yesterday, and as expanded on by Cesar today, Latin Lover seems completely able to use the Latin Lover name. He’s skipped around it the previous visits, but he and CMLL seem to have no concern about being prevented from using it. AAA’s threats and lawsuits may win out in the end, but no one seems particularly concerned about them right now. The only person who’s working under a different name to switch his name is LA Park, and he’s working for AAA right now.

(which means they should’ve just called the Invasors “Los Vipers” and been done with it. Maybe they’ll save it for the recharge. Cesar’s article says La Secta were talking about leaving AAA too, which is the obvious explanation for ongoing events. )

Both Arturo Rivera and Dorian Roldan took to Twitter to mock ‘serious and stable’ CMLL for using Latin Lover and other AAA cast offs.

They’re doing another father/son tournament. This time, it’s all the fathers in the semimain and the juniors in the main event. (Kinda expect that to get flipped.) Oficial Spartan is not Oficial Marshal, but it may be the other unnamed Oficial who turned up over a month ago.

I guess Mascara Sr. or Pirata Morgan could lose their hair, but there’s one name that really doesn’t belong there. Actually, two: Gran Markus Jr. looks like the obvious loser, but isn’t Rayo supposed to be in Guadalajara?

Trauma II has been gone from here since June. Didn’t get to be in the main event this time.

That’s my best guess at the results. AAA’s facebook/twitter said the opener was the same partners as usual, with Mesias & Electroshock going to the final. The recap they sent out after said the semifinal was a four way, with Electroshock going out first, followed by Mesias getting Wagner with the F5, leaving Mesias and Zorro as the final. Mesias beat whoever it was to win the thing.

Histeria has a brand new move and used it to be Octagoncito. Jack got the pin on Gladiador.

Secret taping = sponsored by AC Delco with free tickets, so they didn’t need to advertise it.

No Super Fly appearance. Or turn.

Cota pinned Crazy boy. Charly beat Chessman.

Silver cut off Tiger going for the 450 and superplexed him to take the third. After the match, Silver King kicked Electroshock (not present) out of the Maniacos and promised a new member soon.

Taboo and Escoria were the ‘new wrestlers’, I guess. Ilegal tried his senton on Scoria, Cibernetico pulled his friend out of the way and dropped Ilegal with a stunner. Scoria added a top rope legdrop for the win. Amadeus and Nygma hit the ring post match to beat up Ilegal some more, with his partners fleeing.

Electroshock did not get along with his partners, and they were fighting among themselves. Mesias got the pin with a DDT on Electroshock. La Sociedad destroyed Electroshock after the match, blocking anyone from making a save for some time.

Latin Lover in Arena Mexico, Radio CMLL, IWRG

4) Ángel Mortal & GallegoBlack Terry & Comando Negro
5) Negro Navarro & Trauma IRelampago & Villano III and Espíritu & Joe Lider and El Hijo de Aníbal & Veneno

Four way tag match with elimination rules. It came down to Trauma I vs Joe Lider, but Espiritu (eliminated) came back into help and got DQed. Somehow this sets up a Trauma I/Joe Lider match.

Comando Negro was busy. He challenged Chico Che to a hair match, then lost his own match. Gallego was eliminated, and came back in to beat Black Terry.

DQ in the tercera was for Bombero’s team pressing a Cerebro over the top rope. Rarely see that DQ in CMLL and almost never any place else.

CMLL (FRI) 11/26 Arena Mexico [SuperLuchas, CMLL, Fuego en el Ring]
1) Durango Kid & Tiger KidBengala & Metálico
2) Eléctrico, Fantasy, Pequeno MaximoAstral, Bam Bam, Último Dragoncito
3) MarcelaTiffany [lightning]
4) Delta, Diamante, MetroCancerbero, Euforia, Raziel
5) La Sombra, Rush, Strong ManMisterioso II, Psicosis, Texano
6) Charly Manson, Héctor Garza, Mr. ÁguilaAtlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero

Invasors won the first fall of the main event. The Guerreros had Mr. Aguila surrounded, Aguila fakes a foul, and Tirantes called a DQ for that and for the Guerreros attacking 3 on 1. Second fall had eliminations before the finish: Hector beat UG, Atlantis defeated Charly Manson, and Aguila & Rey were left in the ring. Bucanero had Aguila in an octopus hold for the sure win, but Garza came back in (Tirantes turned around and walked away), broke up the pin, and helped Aguila crawl on top. Fast count too.

After the match, Latin Lover showed up and punched Tiratnes in the face. The Invasors attacked Latin, ripping off his shirt (of course.) Shocker appeared to make the save. This is the third time in recent years where Latin Lover has made a cameo appearance in CMLL and the second time this year, and this one looks like it might actually be followed up in Arena Mexico. Next week’s semimain is now:

5) Latin Lover, Místico, Shocker, Strong Man vs Atlantis, Felino, Héctor Garza, Negro Casas

Mascara Dorada goes missing from the card. This time around, Latin is listed as “Latin Lover” on both and Ras de Lona.

On his blog, Cesar defends CMLL using Latin Lover as reaching media and fans who otherwise wouldn’t be paying attention to lucha libre. CMLL definitely needs to increase it’s appeal now. I suspect Latin will only be very sporadically appearing (and not at all this year after Sin Piedad) and I wouldn’t think about it as more than one appearance at a time. The big idea here is a hair match with Latin and Garza, but there’s no telling if we’ll ever get there. I’d bet they get involved in Friday’s main event too.

Amazing that Rush happened to be in the semimain the day after he won the bodybuilding contest. Strong Man got the deciding pin on Texano.

Metro’s submission is named El Escudo (the Shield.) He got in on Cancerbero as Diamante beat Raziel with a springboard 450 splash.

Marcela beat Tiffany in 8:47. Tirantes was referee, helping Tiffany before they had problems at the end. Hmmm.

No Pequeno Warrior sighting in the minis match. No Shockercito sighting either; Mini Maximo just happened to be around to be his replacement. Electiro got Bam Bam clean with a cristo to win. That sets him up for next week’s mask  match, but would also seem to set up a title match at some point. Bam Bam & Dragoncito wore black outfits, so maybe they were the more rudo-ish of the teams?  Dragoncito’s been wearing the outfit a lot, but Bam Bam kind of looked like how I would expect him to look if he switched to the rudo side.

Last night was the debut of‘s broadcast. I did not have a chance to listen to it, but it sounds like it was a trial run to test things out before next week’s big show. Like microphone levels. The site is still very useful if you missed the show – they’ve posted video of the end (or the post match) of every match last night on their site, and apparently were updating it during the show. Cesar says the radio/video coverage is so good, he’s ending his show reports because they’re not worth the effort when you can actually see all the footage. To me, there’s still a place for live recaps, especially if they’re only going to pose a minute or two of the matches, but probably not in insanely detailed. (And I know there’s a lesson in there for me.)

Ras de Lona items

  • Ultimo Guerrero says he and Dragon Rojo are going to break he and Bucanero’s record for most tag team title defenses and says that is *55*. We’re missing a few. Good luck on that, Dragon Rojo.
  • Metro & Stuka are still under the impression they can pick someone new and just plug them in as champion. This week, Angel de Oro, Delta & Diamante were floated (by Stuka, who must not be really friends with Fuego.) Metro suggested rudos could also be on the ballot. I see they’ve thought this thru!
  • Fantasma and Mephisto talked about Mephisto’s piledriver in Guadalajara this Tuesday. Mephisto did his interview from the top secret Guadalajara announcing station (an editing bay somewhere.)
  • Much like in this Fuego en el Ring interview, La Mascara says he wants to test himself with a mask match with Atlantis or Ultimo Guerrero
  • Lots of Cuije vs Perico hype!

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

CMLL bodybuilding, AAA in Tolluca

CMLL held it’s annual bodybuilding contest yesterday.

Minis: Pequeno Halcon
Women: Dark Angel, as she does every year.
Beginners: Dragon Lee
Intermediate:  Astral
Advanced: Rush

As always, people weren’t happy with the judging. Polvora (Intermediate) and Valiente (Advanced) are singled out as unhappy people. There was a match by Arkangel’s students before the competition, no word on that. El Perico posed in the minis division, just wearing his mask.

SuperLuchas previews tonight’s Arena Mexico show, which isn’t expected to have much a week before the actual big show.

AAA is suing Mascara Sagrada over the name. None of these lawsuits ever seem to be resolved, but they get attention for the day they happen. I thought they already announced this lawsuit, so I’m not sure why it’s being brought up again (Mascara Sagrada Jr. losing his mask?)

AAA promises two surprise luchadors for it’s mystery show in Toluca on Saturday. If you’re not announcing anyone for the show (or even where in Toluca the show is), it’d seem like everyone is a suprise luchador. In this case, they’re supposed to be new wrestlers. They’re also promising two debuts the fans have been waiting for, which isn’t much clearer. Dorian vs Joaquin?

11/26: Kaz Hayashi, KAI, Bushi b Ozz, Cuervo, Masada [Hayashi ‘rana Masada]
I consider this a continuation of the IWRG vs AAA feud.

LuchaWorld points out footage of the Rey Misterio Sr. benefit show from November.
