Pesta/Invasors, CMLL to Amsterdam

CMLL

CMLL (FRI) 10/08 Arena Mexico [SuperLuchas, CMLL, Cesar]
1) Ángel Azteca Jr., Ángel de Plata, MolotovDurango Kid, Escorpion, Nitro
2) Estrellita, Princesa Blanca, TiffanyDark Angel, Luna Mágica, Marcela
3) Ángel de OroSangre Azteca [lightning]
4) Blue Panther, Brazo de Plata, MáximoAverno, Terrible, Texano Jr.
5) Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas DQ Charly Manson, Psicosis, Taichi
6) La Sombra, Máscara Dorada, MísticoAtlantis, Dragón Rojo Jr., Último Guerrero

La Mistica on Ultimo Guerrero in the center of the ring. Crowd was very anti-Mistico.

Peste Negra won in straight falls.  They took the first, and Olimpico jumped in the ring to help beat up Negro Casas for the DQ. Lots of challenges for next week.

3rd match was completely switched, and fourth match was half switched. No explanation. Lightning match featured ‘the blown spot of the year’: Angel de Oro went for a handspring elbow, Sangre Azteca tried to cut him off with a dropkick, and they both missed.

Rudas won in straight falls.

Mephisto, Valiente, Sagrado and Polvora are headed to Amsterdam for matches. They leave Sunday and return Thursday. Article seems to list Ephesto’s name too, but it’d be odd if they were sending an odd number of guys for matches.

The WWE show in Mexico City last night came far short of a sell out.

Chessman spent his time recovering from his broken leg by playing video games. Also, spending time with his family and working out at the gym (and not watching wrestling), but let’s focus on the slim chance of playing a video game against Chessman, the great possible event of all.

Mi Lucha Libre talks about Super Muneco vs Doink (a disappointed, noting anyone could be in the Doink mask and they didn’t get the real Doink), and seperately hypes Psycho Circus vs Payasos. Hmmmmmm. Mi Lucha Libre also has an interview with Freelance to hype tomorrow’s mask match.

AAA had a press conference hyping up their role with sponsor COMEX in sponsoring next year’s Pan American Games at Guadalajara. Mesias and Sexi Star wore official masks for the event.

SuperLuchas has an interview with the producer of 100% Lucha.

  1. So with WWE’s attendence being down for these shows how is it they’re still pulling in the TV ratings that they are?

  2. CMLL TV starting w/ announcers talking about Dragon Rojo Jr. just returning from Tokyo, Japan. DUBYA TEE EFF?

    Tirantes interrupts the announcers. Okay.

    Hyping top 3 airing.

  3. 52MX plugged the tag tournament at the top of the show. Not sure if that means another match is to come.

  4. They’re showing the whole battle royal, so I sure hope they’re not doing any other matches.

  5. XEJ did some local commercials so the entire third fall of the main minus the finish was skipped.

  6. Mistico should have a gimmick where he just complains about everything. For example: stop in the middle of a match to correct the commentary, get new referees that deserve to be involved in his matches & fire the old bastards, redo his entrance because he didn’t like the way he was presented, interrupt the CMLL Informa because they weren’t talking about Mistico enough.

  7. That’s actually a pretty good idea except they just turned Volador Jr. and it wouldn’t make any sense to have Mistico go rudo now.

Also it seems a bit much to ask from a company like CMLL that has Volador Jr./Mr. Niebla as buddies, then against each other, then friends again for next Sunday’s Arena Mexico show without explanation. Or why Ray Mendoza Jr., Zeuxis and Taichi are suddenly ‘Invasores’. Or why they even have stables when the Cancerberos and Tuereg get to team in a tournament.

  8. They actually did a bit with Sexuis and Tiffany & Estrellita to try and explain that whole thing on Ras de Lona. I don’t know that it actually accomplished anything, but we did learn about how much you need to show to be an Invasor.

52MX show was just the tournament, hooray. About half the matches seem to be clipped, but only to take out an opening minute or two. Nothing feels gutted like last time around (though I’m just now getting to the main event.)

  9. Hopefully they get their shit together next week b/c I want to see that Cometa/Pegasso match w/ Demus’s debut in the regular sized division.

  10. @Rob:

CMLL.com has Marcela instead of Zeuxis teaming with the female invasores next friday which makes even less sense.

  11. @Ringo: Unreal. The poster also has Pequeno Olimpico in for Pequeno Nitro in the opener.

Sometimes CMLL is just so god damn frustrating. They put so much effort into stupid ass shit like the Tony Salazar segment on TV today + the fan of the week nonsense but don’t give a flying fuck when they have enemies teaming on the major show of the week.

  12. Black Metal is so green that calling him green is being too nice. If he’s this bad I can’t imagine how awful the guys below him must be. Maybe this explains why Gran Cochisse was fired. Or maybe Black Metal is someone important’s son.

  13. Damn that dive by Palacio Negro was nuts.

Still confused why a guy named Black Metal wears all white but whatever.

  14. @Rob: Wonder if it’s a coincidence is that both substitution are more tenured luchadors replacing relatively new people. I guess it makes since to give the slots on a ‘big’ (?) show to people who’ve been around longer, but usually they figure that out in advance.

  15. @Rob: @thecubsfan: And that’s the problem with CMLL. They explain their big angles, and do their best promos on Ras de Lona, not their flagship show on Televisa. Televisa is lazy, so they just send Riano or that Licona girl around the arena to bother some fans instead. CMLL is to blame for running too many long house show promos.

I don’t like how they brough in Tiffany, but oh well.

  16. @Rob: I am sorry I will make a wild guess (as audience since you know I have zero expertise) about the inclusion of Marcela on Friday’s show…
Could they be trying to see what the crowd’s reaction is to Tiffany and Estrellita as técnicas (even if they are “invasoras”)?

  17. Here’s a really crazy suggestion: How unrealistic would it be for CMLL to NOT run a Friday show at Arena Mexico? Why not decide that “Screw it. We should do a Televisa taping of a Friday show from Puebla, or from Guadalajara, and hype the shit out of the shows over there?” In a country as large as Mexico, it’s asinine to me that CMLL remains as stubborn over filming and hyping Mexico City shows exclusively when a large majority of the population is unable to travel to Mexico City, and when they do, Our Lady of Guadalupe outdraws them 1 million to one. Wouldn’t CMLL be able to at least draw slightly better in Guadalajara or Puebla if people knew the Televisa cameras would be rolling in their hometowns, especially when in some cases CMLL owns the buildings, thus the downside risk would be minimal? Or would the worry be that CMLL would have to actually “SPEND MONEY” to upkeep some of the older arenas to make them Televisa friendly?

It’s not that uncommon for wrestling promotions to book shows outside their “home base” and provide appropriate TV coverage of their shows on major networks. Why does CMLL refuse to do that? It could help spur business, especially when you would encourage your audience to show up and not have to deal with mailed in matches just because the wrestlers aren’t in Arena Mexico. Just one man’s thought.

  18. No Noches de Coliseo, but they may just be running late.

I have the sound off, but I’m dying to find out why they’re talking about breast implants on Noche de Futbol.

  19. So Noches de Coliseo did air, a few minutes late.

It wasn’t lucha. It was the MMA show at Arena Coliseo. If you think Monterrey lucha is a bit ghetto right now, you have a good picture of Monterrey MMA. I wasn’t going to both posting it, but after watching it, I must share it with the world.

As best I can figure, they were working with a rule where if someone was down on the mat for five seconds, whether they were getting punched out or trying to put on a hold or anything else or nothing at all, the fight would be stopped and the guy would have to stand back at their corners. Bizarre.

  20. @J. Corzo Cubby: Friday is a tradition. They can’t stop running on THAT day of the week. Not even for one week. One reason why they get such good crowds is the fact that everyone in Mexico knows that they can have fun on a Friday night at Arena Mexico. Casuals will come out when they get the urge to see Lucha. Those who follow closely will pack the Arena when things are hot, or there’s a big stip match.

I agree that they should try a taping in Guadalajara. But CMLL has invested lots of money in the presentation for sponsors and television purposes. The roll signs and graphic boards are not cheap and can’t be moved from venue to venue without spending lots of money. Arena Mexico is their tv studio and Madison Square Garden all in one.

“televisa friendly”. Look at the crap venues AAA has been running. They are worse than CMLL’s oldest venues like Puebla and Guadalajara. You can see the leak stains on the ceiling tiles. I can’t wait to see what this Neza venue looks like. Whoever made the decision to do tapings within two hours of Mexico City is crazy. I’d say within five hours is more reasonable. Five hour drives are nothing in the wrestling business. They have to go back to Morelia, Leon, Celaya, SLP, Aguascalientes, and a few other regular tv venues. They are not long drives by wrestling standards.

I find it funny that Galavision USA is running spots for “Lucha de Vuelta” mentioning some of the names that will be on the show, but the Saturday airing has a generic spot.

  21. I can’t remember… is this the 2nd week of Heroes on TV? So far they’ve aired the mixed tag title match and now the Copa Pena.

  22. I’m going to try to explain this horrible edit AAA just did…

Laredo Kid/Aero Star were working tag spots with Decnis/Tigre Cota. Laredo Kid ended up sitting on the top rope and Aero Star was whipped towards him. Aero Star ran up the ropes and did an armdrag to take Tigre down. Then they cut to the hard cam (no crowd shot in between) and suddenly Elegido was in the ring with Billy Boy. No sign of Super Fly who was on the apron. Both refs who were in the ring were now on the floor checking on Laredo Kid and Aero Star.

WHAT THE FUCK? I’m guessing there was a huge blown spot somewhere but isn’t it better to air that rather than your TV show looking like a 10 year old edited it?

Not to mention from where they picked up it appears like Super Fly’s elimination was skipped so as a viewer we just have to assume he disappeared into thin air. What a way to be eliminated!

(For what it’s worth the photos on AAA.com show Laredo Kid did a somersault over the ringpost as Aero Star did his reverse cannonball right beside him. No sign of Super Fly so I’m assuming he died on a botched dive at the same time.)

  23. And just to emphasize how unimportant these guys are – Arturo Rivera is calling Aero Star ‘Laredo Kid’ as he’s fighting in a mask vs hair match.

  24. This is my favorite part by the way. Aero Star wins and the locker room empties to congratulate him. Except it’s all the undercarders. Guess this match wasn’t important enough for any real stars to be watching.

No sign of Super Fly in post-match so he must have been really hurt.

Fabi Apache in the ring not even letting Chris know he doesn’t need to get shaved, he can just a short haircut.

  25. Post-match skit addresses no Super Fly. His teammates asked why he didn’t come out to congratulate Aero Star. He walked away from them. This is clearly building up to his rudo turn in 2013.

Mesias vs Perrito still to come but I’m done with this show.
