Negro sweeps Charly, lineup

CMLL (FRI) 10/01 Arena Mexico [SuperLuchas, Cesar, @cmllmagazine, Notimex]
1) Astro Boy & Metálico b Camorra & Semental
2) Ángel Azteca Jr., Ángel de Oro, Ángel de Plata b Cancerbero, Raziel, Virus
3) Shigeo Okumura b Diamante [lightning]
4) Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto b La Máscara, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada
5) Blue Panther, Hijo del Fantasma, Strong Man b Jushin Lyger, Terrible, Texano Jr.
6) Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero b Charly Manson, Mr. Águila, Volador Jr.

Pesta Negra won the main event in straight falls. Invasors/Volador had the first fall won, but got DQed for excessive violence. Negro beat Charly with a casita in the second, despite Tirantes trying to block it. The Aguila/Bucanero challenge was dropped this week.

Not much of note the rest of the way. Okumura replaced Euforia, which probably had something to do with NJPW being here for this show. (They only sat in front of the crowd for the last three matches.) Strong Man beat Lyger to send him home a broken man. Strong Man is also done for the time being. Sombra was strechered out after his match after taking the deciding pin in his match.

Astro Boy had a bad night, failing on moves, repeating them, and failing again.

Ras de Lona talked to a lot of the teams in this weekend’s Arena Coliseo Tag Team Tournament. I think only Pegasso was MIA. Instead of highlgihts of their fighting, we saw Super Comando & Artillero salute in slow motion. Euforia & Nosferatu acknowledged this would not be their first shot, did not discuss why Nosferatu is not in los Cancerberos. I hope they lose in the first round. Show also had Tigre Hatorri saying (in English) that NJPW wrestlers were much better than CMLL. BOOOOOO.

Main event should be good, but a skippable week in terms of progression.

Taichi returns. Estrellita debuts. Fourth match is a Brazo team. Charly/Negro meet again. Rush/Terrible is a such an easy joke that I made it last night.

The show actually went nearly 4 hours live. (Scheduled to start at 9, didn’t start until 9:37, last update on teh show was 1:21.) They might be able to stretch this into 3 episodes if they want.

NOAH, reporting on their own title match, said the attendance was 12,000 and a sell out. NOAH hasn’t been the most accurate reporter of attendance lately.

There was a dark match between locals, which I believe was won by the rudos. That’d be the only rudo win on the night.

Crazy pinned Yuriko to win the opener.

There was a skit in the ring with Konnan, Joaquin Roldan and NOAH president to explain why there was a GHC title match on this show. Sugiura won in 8:43.

Fabi & Pimpi are the ninth mixed tag champions, and this is the third different partner Fabi’s held these titles with. Alex posted a farewell message on Twitter later, so this was probably it for him here. Pimpi kissed Alex, Alex was stunned, Fabi rolled him up.

Everyone bled in 187 match, and it sounds like everyone bled a lot. Perros del Mal facebook has a photo of Konnan, face full of blood, getting cleaned off after the match. It was one of those ‘everything and the kitchen sink’ kind of matches, except the kitchen sink was actually barbed wire. Konnan was pinned, and the recap says Konnan and Halloween were taken to the hospital. I don’t recall any mention of Konnan later in the show. After the match, Chessman attacked Nicho with a club to get revenge.

Copa Pena turned out to be a normal cibernetico, where the guy who won the match would get the cup, and the guy who finished second would lose his hair. Eliminations seemed to be really quick. It came down to Chris Stone versus Elegido, Laredo and Aerostar. Chris managed to defeat the first two, but Aero pinned him to take his hair. There was a big post match celebration with other undercard tecnicos after the win.

Both the big singles matches had seconds, which AAA hasn’t been doing lately, but they were more notable for being random people. Dr. Wagner had Aerostar with him, while Silver King had Tigre Cota. (Guess Ultimo Gladiador was on a spot show somewhere.) The seconds in this one ended up getting involved late. The title match itself was a normal match (not sure about quality, but in style compared to everything else on this show), with Copetes favoring Silver King throughout. Dr. Wagner still got the pin to keep the title, and dedicated it to his father. It seems like that storyline is closed off and they’ll be setting up a new contender.

The MT recap says Perro Jr. (seconded by Decnnis) dominated his match with Mesias (seconded by Crazy Boy) – it was tough to get a sense of reading the updates. Mesias bled, got beat up, but still powerbombed Perro thru a table in the corner for the win. Decent bit of surprise over Perro losing, but he had to have agreed to that before AAA would’ve had him win over Mesias last time. This feud probably isn’t over.

The main event may have come across a lot clearer live than it did on the internet. It kind of had to. The concept turned out to be War Games rules to enter the cage (Metal & Electroshock started with more guitar shots) and another would be added after a couple minutes, but once everyone was in the cage, you won by escaping back out. Kind of ruins the point of it.

Order of entry

1) Heavy Metal & Electroshock
2) Zorro
3) La Parka Jr.
4) LA Park
5) This was Cibernetico’s spot. His music played, he did not appear. Dorian appeared on the big screen to say Cibernetico was with his group and unidentified masked man in a Bizarros shirt walked out to ringside and watched the match.
6) Hernandez, making it now 4 on 2.
7) This was Octagon’s spot, but no Octagon. Instead, Joaquin Roldan appeared, and said he some surprise replacements…Ozz & Cuervo. I kid you not, Ozz & Cuervo making the save for the tecnicos in the main event.

There’s a school of thought that Ozz & Cuervo weren’t supposed to be the two guys here, that there were jumps or new people who were supposed to be in this spot. It’s Ozz & Cuervo, so that seems entirely reasonable. People were throwing out names on Twitter last night (Mistico, obviously), and my thought is, if there’s anything to any of those names, it’ll be confirmed pretty quick.

At this point, Octagon appeared to sit at ringside with Joaquin. A man on a motorcycle – probably the same man who attacked Octagon originally – drove to ringside and joined the cage match. Cibernetico finally appeared to make the save (not sure where he was five minutes prior) then climbed in the cage to help his team win. Order of escape is entirely unclear, but Park & Hernandez were left inside. Cibernetico and the unknown Bizarro celebrated with team AAA after the match. The motorcycle driver disappeared, so he remains a mystery (as does Cibernetico’s friend.)

AAA’s off for a couple weeks, which should give the rest of some time to digest all of this.
