Aguila wants in the hair match, Panico, War Games, Chessman

CMLL (FRI) 09/24 Arena Mexico [@cmllmagazine, SuperLuchas]
1) Durango Kid & EscorpionGuerrero Maya Jr. & Molotov
2) Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño WarriorBam Bam, Mascarita Dorada, Último Dragoncito
3) Stuka Jr.Pólvora [lightning]
4) Averno, Ephesto, MephistoLa Máscara, Máscara Dorada, Valiente
5) Charly Manson, Mr. Águila, OlímpicoMr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero
6) La Sombra, Místico, Strong ManJushin Lyger, Último Guerrero, Volador Jr.

Main event pushed Mistico vs Volador, but it was the other four finishing the match – Strong Man plancha on UG, Sombra 450 on Lyger. 85% of the crowd was behind Volador.

Invasors won their match with some help from Tirantes. According to CMLL.com, Mr. Aguila still wants to be the in hair match. This is a nonsensical story.

Panico says everything in CMLL is fine, they only cancel shows when the promoter can’t make the deposit, and certainly no one will get punished for speaking their mind. In another article, Volador & Sombra appear very hesitant to make any comment, accidentally contradicting Panico’s case.

The cage match on Hereos Inmortales will be competed under the old War Games rules: two guys start, and another gets added every couple minutes. The stipulation adds to the match, always an unexpected bonus in AAA. Octagon insists on still fighting, despite his injuries.

Mi Lucha Libre (new site? looks good) has an interview with Chessman, who’s back in the ring after his ankle injury.

Not much new news on Ras de Lona.

Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 10/01 Arena Mexico
1) Astro Boy & Metálico vs Camorra & Semental
2) Ángel Azteca Jr., Ángel de Oro, Ángel de Plata vs Cancerbero, Raziel, Virus
3) Diamante vs Euforia [lightning]
4) La Máscara, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
5) Blue Panther, Hijo del Fantasma, Strong Man vs Jushin Lyger, Terrible, Texano Jr.
6) Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero vs Charly Manson, Mr. Águila, Volador Jr.

Lyger might as well have gone home a couple days early.

That’s the trios champs teaming up in the fourth match. Title match coming up?

Hopefully Diamante doesn’t kill himself this time.

No Mistico. Hmmm.

  1. I would be happy with Aguila jumping in,I feel like alot of the fued was built around Rey Bucanero and having him in there would make it that much better.I feel like he deserves a nice hair win.

  2. I wonder if wordpress wasn’t so easy to use how many lucha libre sites would be around right now.

As far as what Marco Moreno said…

    – Talked about the upcoming show with all the promotions involved in Naucalpan. AAA, IWRG, DTU, MALO, Perros, AULL.
    – Castillo del Terror (very briefly)
    – IWRG wrestlers traveling to Japan for a show promoted by NOSAWA.

  3. Aguila vs Bucanero on 10/8 and Negro vs Manson on 10/15 works. Just not sure what we’ll be discussing in the chat next Friday. *L* Thanks CMLL! Maybe we can discuss why Volador and Niebla aren’t friends after winning the Bicentenial tag tournament. Or just wait till midnight when the AAA show begins. Oh I know – Arena Coliseo tag team tournament predicitions!

CMLL TV supposed to begin in an hour. Hoping the Dorada match makes the cut.

  4. @Rob: Not sure what is happening. I always thought we could count on cmll.com to be right about updating the tv time. There is NFL for sure.

  5. i hate when they show the highspots in the opening preview of the show. takes the fun out of watching the matches.

  6. Don’t know what team it is but there’s a guy at ringside wearing an NFL jersey that says ‘Alex’ on it. *L*

  7. Which moonsault dive did he do in the first fall, Tim? His usual one where he steps on the second rope and then turns to land on the top rope?

  8. 52MX has 2/3 this week
Metálico, Molotov, Sensei b Durango Kid, Escorpion, Inquisidor
Mascarita Dorada, Shockercito, Último Dragoncito b Pequeño Black Warrior, Pequeño Nitro, Pierrothito

  9. Nice looking 52MX card.

CMLL main event was run-of-the-mill stuff. Nothing special. What I caught of the opener was really good. Missed semi-main and Momentos b/c of a phone call.

  10. I hate the way AAA no longer does ring intros. Cibernetico is nothing without his Ci-ber-ne-ti-co intro, which helped get him over big time.

The venues are so small, it takes little time for AAA to do the wrestler entrances, unlike ArMex where it can take 6 or 7 minutes. I hope AAA didn’t eliminate the entrances to make more time for the promos.

  11. Local CMLL GDL had extremely edited opener that wasn’t good. (figures since this might be the week Cubs figures out how to record it)

C3 has the opener again but WMP is down and RealPlayer feed froze on me.

  12. LWA Peru show tonight was actually pretty fun. I won’t waste people’s time with the results, but the workers were generally a bit better than I expected, the organization was generally a bit worse (started an hour late, very loose ring ropes, etc), and the crowd seemed pretty knowledgeable. Unfortunately, due to the late start, I had to skip out on the Super Z/Apocalypsis/Ian Muhlig main event.

The big announcement on the show was that their next show on Dec 6 would crown the first tag team champions. They announced Castagnoli and Hero will be coming down from ROH to compete, which they treated as a big deal, and it actually is for a promotion like this (as opposed to AAA and other big Mexican promotions). Some portion of the crowd seemed to know ROH, so that should help.

It definitely doesn’t compare with major Mexican Lucha, but the couple hundred people at the show seemed into it, so I’ll probably take in the shows when they happen. It only seems to be every few months, so that makes it a bit easier.

  13. @LLL:

Change over the six weeks of CMLL

    down .8
    up .8
    down 1.9
    up 1.5
    down .6

These might as well be coming from a random number generator.

  14. @thecubsfan: How many times has CMLL’s time slot changed over the last six weeks? I think they even went off early this week for soccer. Plus, their own website listed them as airing on Sunday. When they get a time slot, and stick to it for about 12 or 13 weeks, then they’ll probably have more stable numbers.

Many television shows have ups and downs. Some just have downs like LLUSA. That’s the nature of television.

  15. @LLL: I don’t much care about ratings, only whether or not I enjoy a show. That being said, you may have the reason for the variable ratings, but that still doesn’t explain why anyone should care. If neither major Mexican promotion has a stable timeslot (and neither of them have had since these numbers became available) then there can’t be any conclusions derived from the ratings (based on your statement above), and therefore they probably can’t use them to drive their advertising revenue.

BTW, what’s your beef with LLUSA? I don’t see the need to trash them in this discussion.

  16. AAA has had a steady Sunday slot for a long time. I don’t remember when they went to two hours, but it’s been some time. CMLL is the group that has been getting dicked around for years.

Obviously, both groups use their ratings to drive ad revs, which is why there is ringside signage all over both shows. Corona, COMEX, Rotoplas, etc…….aren’t doing it for charity.

LLUSA? I’m happy that they failed. But I wasn’t bashing them. I used them as an example of how a tv show can free fall in the ratings.

  17. @LLL: They may be using visibility to set prices for ads, but I doubt they’re specifically using ratings. Unless something’s changed since the last time I talked about to someone about this, they usually don’t get a rating report from the network or the rating company and can’t easily find out what numbers they’re doing, much less turn around and sell based on those numbers.
