2010 AAA TV Results
Projected Air Date (#948)
Mexico: 08/01
US: 08/14

Dos de Tres was covering the show live, and then suddenly they weren’t. Internet problems, I guess.

Psycho Circus win again, this time with Konnan taking the pin after Cibernetico hit him with a tray that Jennifer Blake had brought to the ring. It was all quickly shrugged off when Los Perros (Perro Jr. and unnamed Perros) showed up to make their alliance with Dorian and Konnan official. This is weird to me, because the AAA TV I watched this weekend  (taped over a month ago), had the Legion and the Perros working together. Things just move slow in Mexico.

Semimain was a crowd brawl. Hijo de Tirantes turned up to attack Piero, but Wagner laid out Tirantes and set up for the Wagner Driver. Vampiro attacked him, and the rudos beat up Tiger for the win.

Tercera ended with Chris Stone turning on Elegido and helping the rudos. AAA’s recap doesn’t mention this. I dunno. It’s late, we’re all tired. No sign of Alan. My new theory is Elegido is so involved in the video game promotion, they thought they needed him to get back on TV, and Chris Stone is more than willing to lose his hair for the cause.

Cinthia pinned Sexi Star and Mini Histeria pinned Octagoncito, both of which would seem to set up title matches if we didn’t know the next half month of TV.

  1. Not sure if anyone noticed, but the AAA camera angles from Guadalajara were something new.

The floor cameramen were standing on the second turnbuckles. This caused some problems with LA Park and Wagner, two men who don’t want problems with.

Why is AAA doing this? Because they’re obviously trying the UFC camera angles.

Well, there is a reason UFC does it. The cage and corner posts/padding of the octagon are an obstruction. The cameramen have to be above the octagon. AAA does not need both cameramen practically inside the ring shooting from the turnbuckles.

  2. @LLL: was this what aired on us tv this week?

i noticed this when alan stone went for a dive and the cameraman was there on the 2nd turnbuckle. it bothered me !

  3. So I guess all that Dr. Wagner business was just posturing and preening for attention after all, eh?

  4. They’ve were climbing up on the cage at TripleMania and they’ve been trying things like this for a little while, I thought.

  5. @CM93: Yes, the US this weekend. Maybe they tried it before. I just don’t know if it makes sense in a regular wrestling ring. Cage would be a different story.

Also, as Cubs pointed out, Heavy Metal sure is taking punishment. After blading, and submitting to Electro Shock, he was power bombed from the ring to a table on the floor. Ouch.

  6. AAA’s had that camera angle since at least 2002. I remember the announcers marking out during a cage match where one of the camera guys was sitting on top of the cage filming down into the ring. Way to ruin the illusion that wrestlers should be scared to climb up so high when a skinny cameraman is just sitting there smiling.

  7. @Rob: Cage matches for sure have had cameramen climbing to get better shots. Other times, they just shot from the floor. In fact, I remember complaining about a cage match, I think from Arena Monterrey, where they used nothing but the floor cams, and it looked terrible on television.

But in a regular ring, like they used in Guadalajara, I don’t think I’ve ever seen both floor cameramen standing on the second turnbuckles.

Definitely a rip off of MMA camera angles in Guadalajara.

I got ratings. Gonna post them between 10 and 11p.

  8. Highest CMLL rating since Dos Leyendas (but they’ve had a 3.8 since)

    AAA is remarkably stable
    6/20/2010 4.9
    6/27/2010 6.2 – Park vs Parka airs
    7/4/2010 4.7
    7/11/2010 4.9
    7/18/2010 4.5
    7/25/2010 4.9

  9. I was going to ask what time CMLL aired. I know that I turned on XEJ at 5:15 EST on Sunday, and saw the Friday main event in the ring. Went off at about 5:30.

It’s funny how some shows vary in ratings, while others stay the same. I’m a buff for cable news ratings on MSNBC, Fox News, and CNN. I notice that Glenn Beck is a roller coaster, depending on what controversy he’s involved in that week, while O’Reilly and Maddow stay about the same no matter what.

AAA is kind of like RAW, where they stay in the same range within .5

  10. CMLL began at 3:35ish EST so 14:35ish in Mexico City. So a lot of people who tuned in may have been expecting to see AAA.

Honestly I have no other explanation for the ratings increase.

  11. @Rob: Airing top two instead of the other format they were doing? That might help.

Airing at 1:30 is bad. Too early. That produced some of CMLL’s worst numbers.

  12. @LLL: I think you’re overanalyzing things. Unless you want to explain why a match with Casas, Felino, Bucanero vs Panther, Mascara and Delta was more interesting to fans than Mascara, Mascara Dorada, Hijo Del Fantasma which aired last week and had the benefit of a tag title match in the main event.

I’m honestly of the belief that for the most part Mexican TV ratings are completely random. Yes, time slot is a factor. Yes, a big match (Park/Parka) is a factor. But in general I think there is no amount of logic that can explain the week-to-week ratings of AAA and CMLL.

  13. “Unless you want to explain why a match with Casas, Felino, Bucanero vs Panther, Mascara and Delta was more interesting to fans than Mascara, Mascara Dorada, Hijo Del Fantasma which aired last week and had the benefit of a tag title match in the main event”

    I will give it a shot…
Casas, Felino, Bucanero & Panther are bigger names and bigger draws to your average fan than the younger guys.
