Expo: Demon/Lider new champs, Psicosis v Mistico, Santo v AAA, lineups

CMLL (FRI) 07/23 Arena Mexico [SuperLuchasCesar]
1) Astro Boy & MetálicoMortiz & Semental
2) Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Princesa SujeiDark Angel, Lluvia, Luna Mágica
3) Ángel de Oro, Diamante, RushCancerbero, Raziel, Virus
4) MarcelaLady Apache [lightning]
5) Felino, Negro Casas, Rey BucaneroBlue Panther, Delta, La Máscara
6) Héctor Garza, Mr. Águila, Psicosis DQ Místico, Shocker, Strong Man

Rudos won in straight falls, pinning Shocker & Strong Man in the first, and Psicosis tossing his mask to Mistico to draw the DQ in the second. Psicosis also did a legdrop from the top of the stage onto Mistico in the move of the night. Mistico wanted a mask vs mask match, but Psicosis agreed only to a singles match and then they’ll see. Psicosis vs Mistico looks to be the main event of the Anniversary show. More could be added, but they’re the best bet.

Felino came to the ring with a guitar and dressed as if he was Rigo. Not the IWRG guy, the Mexican musician with long hair (that Rigo was parodying.) Rudos beat Panther to win the match after Delta had taken La Mascara out on a dive by accident.

Third match was said to be pretty good.

DTU (FRI) 07/23 Centro Banamex [Estrellas del RingR de RuddoEspaldas Planas]
1) Chica Tormenta b Dement Xtreme, Lady Luxor
2) Flamita b Tacubo, Muerte Bucanera, Dement Extreme, Ciclope, Hormiga,Lobo Metalico
3) Trivan b Black Fire
4) Trauma I & Trauma II b Paranoiko & Psicosis III
5) Eterno & Low Rider b Crazy Boy & Daga and Drastik Boy & Iron Love
6) Joe Lider b Aeroboy, Kaientai, Violento Jack, Murder Angel [DTU]

Lider pinned Aeroboy to pick up the the DTU title in the main event.

Eterno pinned Daga; those two are feuding across promotions. Silver King, looking for another promotion to get involved in, showed up after the semimain to challenge Crazy Boy to a street fight at their August show.

A few minutes into the Traumas match, Paranoiko took off his own mask and walked to the back, never to return. No one seems to mention why. One of the Traumas was ripping at his mask, maybe it broke it and he didn’t have another one?

NWA MEXICO (FRI) 07/23 Centro Banamex [Estrellas del RingR de RudoThe Gladiatores]
1) Apolo Dantés & Cesar Dantes b Cien Caras Jr. & El Hijo de Aníbal
2) Skayde b Carta Brava Jr., Hanaoka, Mr. Katana [NWA MEX WELTER]
3) Turbo b Templario [NWA MEX LIGHT]
4) Black Terry & Solar I DRAW Negro Navarro & Rocky Santana
5) Blue Demon Jr. b Oliver John [PWR HEAVY]

Only the Gladiatores has the right titles in the  matches (the other two said Demon won the NWA Heavyweight Title back, though they later corrected that on Twitter.) I’m not sure if it was just accidental confusion or if the promotion was making things confusing. (07/26 Edit: PWR assures me that it was announced as for their title, not for the NWA title.)

Results also list Skyde with the lighteweight belt and Turbo with the welterweight belt, which is the opposite of the last time we’ve seen them (I’ve got them corrected above.) Not that it really means anything, since it’s the same exact physical belt and they only defend it once every six months, but Turbo and Skayde were listed as if they had swapped championship since last time we saw them. Tag match was said to be very good. Templario hurt himself in his title match but managed to finish.

IWRG (FRI) 07/23 Centro Banamex [The GladiatoresEstrellas del RingEspaldas PlanasR de Rudo]
1) Cerebro Negro & Dr. CerebroOrito (Segura) & Panterita
2) Fishman Jr., Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Hijo del SignoBobby Lee Jr., Hijo del Brazo de Plata, Hijo del Pantera
3) el Ángel, Pantera, Villano III DQ Fuerza Guerrera, Pirata Morgan, Veneno
4) Canek, Scorpio Jr., Tinieblas Jr. DQ Hijo del Cien Caras, Máscara Año 2000, Universo 2000

This was the annual Mask Festival show, where everyone wore their old masks and gave them away after their match.

Before the main, IWRG (Cesar Moreno & Black Terry) handed out awards for various people: El Signo (still recovering from injury, accepted by his son), Tinieblas Sr., Mascara Ano 2000, Universo 2000 and Cien Caras (accepted by his son, not sure why Caremlo Reyes wasn’t there). Everyone congratulated each other, and then the rudos jumped the tecnicos to start the main event. Rudos won the first, tecnicos the second, and Pirata ran in the third to set up a mask/hair match with Canek. Please, no.

DQ in the semimain was for Pirata blatantly fouling Villano III. First two matches were both straight fall wins for the rudos.

Black Terry Jr. has a metric ton of photos from the first day. Los Perros del Mal took a picture of one familiar fan waiting in line for autographs.

The big out of the ring news was Dorian Roldan saying AAA had been sued by El Hijo del Santo. Dorian posted on Twitter that Santo was angry about being on the TripleMania DVD (or, probably more accurately, angry he was on the DVD without being paid more). Dorian did not seem worried about it. Santo acknowledged the suit but said no more.

Ras de Lona bits

  • Hype for Mistico vs Psicosis
  • Puma King refused to shake hands with Tiger Kid after the events of the cage match. Replays showed they both hit each other during the match before Tiger knocked Puma off the cage and left him to die. They might actually be going somewhere with this.
  • Still no footage from Nuevo Laredo, but they had Oriental (now painting his face with kanji) talking about his loss
  • Olimpico’s faked the fakest foul in the history of fake fouls on Tuesday.
  • Strong Man promo, refers to himself in the third person as “the Strongman” repeatedly.
  • Loco Max showed off Centella de Oro’s hair. And Tony Rivera’s, for some reason. Seuxis, with new weird eye makeup, showed off Silueta’s mask.
  • Multiple interviews with Sangre Chicana.
  • Garza and Tirantes promo, setting up more with Volador & Sombra

CMLL’s main show is on at 3PM CT this Sunday. Coloso Colosetti will be featured.

Fuego en el Ring says Arena Coliseo Guadalajara lucha libre is airing at 7 pm on Saturdays and noon on Sundays. (That’s 8pm and 1pm Eastern.) Show airs on Megacable 6, which has a website and a streaming feed. I’d guess it’s the Teleforumla show, but maybe they’d air it all the way thru.

SuperLuchas has  profile of Oaxaca trainer Challenger.

Estrellas de Ring has an interview with Rey Cobra.

Diario de Xalapa has a story on local luchador/boxer of the past, Aguila Negra.

411Mania has a recap of last night’s Lucha Libre USA show.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Lineups

CMLL (TUE) 07/27 Arena Mexico
1) Robin & Trueno vs Disturbio & Semental
2) Dalys la Caribeña, Lluvia, Marcela vs La Seductora, Princesa Sujei, Seuxis
3) Diamante, Pegasso, Rey Cometa vs Euforia, Raziel, Virus
4) Hijo del Fantasma, Sagrado, Strong Man vs Histeria, Jushin Lyger, Olímpico
5) La Máscara, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada vs Héctor Garza, Terrible, Texano

Trios champs versus likely contenders a week before the usual fan appreciation show. I wonder what could happen?

Lyger, Histeria and Olimpico is such a weird team. Did Yoshihashi get hurt? Ras de Lona had Valiente in Strong Man’s spot.

Team RAPIDA vs the Cancerberos in the tecera.

CMLL (FRI) 07/30 Arena Mexico
1) Horus & Leono vs Camorra & Súper Comando
2) Ángel Azteca Jr., Ángel de Oro, Ángel de Plata vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Loco Max, Skándalo
3) Felino, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero vs Charly Manson, Héctor Garza, Mr. Águila
4) Último Guerrero vs EphestoTexano Jr.AvernoMephistoMáscara DoradaStuka Jr.La Sombra [CMLL Universal, tournament]
5) Místico vs Psicosis

Psicosis has something to prove. Ras de Lona didn’t mention that match, or any main event. I dunno.

Five rudos in this half of the bracket, including all four Hijos de Averno. The match up they’re teasing has to be a rematch of last year’s finals (Ultimo Guerrero vs Texano Jr.), but with the long tease of Terrible & Texano leaving the rest of the group to partner with Garza, I wonder if this might be the time they actually do that break. Only Stuka or Ephesto would be big surprises coming out of this side, everyone else is pretty reasonable. Might have a reasonable chance for decent length matches with only five matches (and a singles match on top.) I still like the idea of Volador vs Sombra in the final, but there’s other ways they could go here.

Next Friday’s remaining champions: Lyger, Negro, Garza, Aguila, Mascara, Volador, Valiente, Metro. 07/30 seems like the stronger week.  Too bad Charlie lost to X-Fly, he totally would’ve been in this.

  1. They were talking about these two Alebrije & Cuije getting lots of autograph requests. Though it’s probably because they thought it was the other two.

  2. 52MX has womens and Mistico/Lyger, as expected. People tweeting about the Fox show said it did show the Infierno en el Ring cage match.

  3. Teleformula is 06/29 and 9 minutes late

*Ephesto, Euforia, Felino b Delta, Diamante, Gallo
*Máximo & Místico b Jushin Lyger & Mephisto

Everything you need to know about CMLL: two networks are airing Mistico/Lyger tags against each other, and CMLL barely acknowledges either show.

I really wish they aired full episodes, because I forget how much better the picture is when it’s not on the web. It’s a lot lot better.

  4. I don’t even bother getting too excited about the matches from GDL on Teleformula anymore. They’ll fuck it up somehow.

  5. I think the big news here is Euforia’s gear really doesn’t work as black and white.

  6. I liked how Euforia and Diamante couldn’t decide what the finish was, and Euforia just decided to powerbomb him very hard, so much that it’s a minute later and Diamante is still grabbing onto his head. Fun times.

  7. @Alfredo: Yeah that sucks when you see a good match coming up but can’t get excited b/c you know it’ll be ruined by editing.:(

On the bright side whatever makes TV makes it online in full so that’s always a plus. I’m interested in seeing that opener.

Looking forward to the mini’s debuting later on C3 as well as more Dorada insanity hopefully!

  8. COMPLETE SHOW. (They cut away from stuff quick and may have come back a moment late for the second fall, but still.)

  9. I’d really like to ask someone at Teleformula why they end the show abruptly. Its not like they can’t air that Osuke commercial afterwards anway.

This might be the most complete lucha show aired on that channel since January.

  10. LATV is a rerun. A rerun of the 05/28 show.

Wait, they haven’t aired the 05/28 show? HUH.

  11. 2) Dark Angel, Lluvia, Luna Mágica b Amapola, Mima Shimoda, Princesa Blanca
    4) Ángel de Oro, Blue Panther, Valiente b Euforia, Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca

  12. I thought it was a repeat up until they mentioned the tecnico team for the 2nd match. Even then, I thought it could be a repeat.

  13. Great day to be a Lucha TV fan!

Not only am I stunned a new show aired, I’m also stunned their aired two matches that didn’t get on the main show which means they purposely skipped over Rush vs Cancerbero!

Also gives me hope the 6/4 setup match for the Mex Nat Trios Titles defense actually airs. Need more Mascara Dorada!

  14. See! Euforia’s outfit is so much better in black red yellow.

I’m not totally paying attention, but every time look over to the TV, someone’s doing some thing weird. Like Misterioso getting hurt but decidign to stay direclty in the center of the camera shot, or Sangre Azteca blowing the boost dropkick and insisting on doing a better one.

  15. Almost forgot, but Megacable is airing Leo/Palacio Negro vs Ebola/Rafaga from last Tuesday. This is YET ANOTHER SHOW. Repeats noon central tomorrow.

  16. Or maybe not, since they appear to be airing the top 3. It’s definitely a different commentary team and a different graphic package. Maybe the tapes change announce crews later on? Maybe they have two different groups doing the same tapes <------ this one.

  17. @thecubsfan: *L* This is actually too much to handle since these shows are going on at the same time. Is that feed recordable w/ VLC?

  18. C3 mini’s cluster ended so just turned it on. Looks good. 3rd fall of semi-main already though?

  19. Fun third fall. I liked the finish. A Metal Blanco tag is going to be the biggest cluster ever.

  20. Charly Manson and Tirantes in Arena Mexico is still so weird to see. Who’s next, May Flowers?

  21. and ACM is back. I’m going to be busy.

    Opener is from 06/13:
    3) Angel Dorado Jr., Jesse, Sky b Rió Bravo, Tigre Cota, Tito Santana

  22. They skipped to 5) LA Park & Zorro b Heavy Metal & La Parka Jr., so only two matches will air.

  23. /off topic

Earlier today Kenzo Suzuki showed up in All Japan and joined their top heel group. So that got me thinking: how does this affect his AAA status?

  24. @Phil Lions:

Well he got beat down by Lider and Nicho last week so I thought that might be the end of him. I’m sure he’ll be back cause he never seems to stay in one place for very long.

  25. Kenzo is booked in house shows in August, so at least the plan was for him to be around. Super Crazy is also working AJPW and I thought that’s where Nosawa was more or less based in Japan, so maybe there’s some sort of agreement there.

On the other hand, Kenzo’s been downplayed this year and is kind of extraneous to the Legion with Hernandez around and the Perros around. He’s only wrestled on 7 TV tapings this year, not at TripleMania, and hasn’t been in a TV match since that beatdown. So I’m not sure.

  26. I’m not an expert by any means, but if AAA is having financial issues, you would think the most expensive travel they could cut out would be flights from Japan…

  27. First off, if AAA brings in any foreigners they are responsible for the flight. Second, I’m pretty sure Kenzo was living in Mexico. I have a hard time believing AAA was flying Kenzo in for every taping from Japan each time. In fact I think it’s impossible. (verified by the fact Kenzo works house shows, something very few actual foreigners do) Of course this is the same promotion that paid to bring in Shiima Xion and Roxxi so it’s not like they are immune to pissing money away.

One of the bigger stories seemingly brewing right now is what kind of financial stress is AAA under. I’m not implying they are in trouble of going bankrupt or anything of the sort but there definitely seems to be some thought going into how money is spent these days compared to a year or two ago where guys like Rellik and El Padrino were brought in without a second thought and every U.S. indy name was being considered for a full-time job. The foriegners are obviously the first guys to feel the crunch b/c naturally they were getting paid more than the natives which made Mexico a viable option. If a guy like Jack Evans has his pay cut down you have to wonder if staying in Mexico is worth it for him over coming back to take U.S. indy bookings, take advantage of that new Florida promotion for a guaranteed contract or head to FCW if the invitation is still there.

What comes out of this will be interesting. If the constant stream of foreigners dries up you have to wonder if the men in charge of AAA can cope with having to push the Mexicans they’ve been burying for months or even years. You also have to wonder if the men in charge even know who the right natives are to push since they’ve been ignoring them for so long. Recent choices such as Relampago, Chris Stone and Heavy Metal are very troubling to me.

Worse comes to worse AAA can bring back Shiima Xion. I hear he’ll work for peanuts. Literally.

  28. Random thought, but maybe it was the DVD rights that kept Santo and the main event off the Viva la Lucha PPV, not the PPV rights?

Kevin K, I know you all never advertised the main event of the last Perros taping, but can you explain why it was never going to be included? Everyone assumes it was Santo anyway, and the AAA lawsuit seems to point in that direction as well. This would almost certainly mean that we won’t get Perro on this PPV either right?
