Scorpio, Peste Negra win, lineup

More on Scorpio’s passing:

  • Luchas 2000 quotes Fantasma saying he believes Scorpio was going in to the hospital on Tuesday for knee replacement surgery, but they found problems with his liver and kidney.
  • El Manana has a photo of the casket, and says Scoprio died at him from a heart attack. I’m sure these stories match up some way, but it takes some work.
  • Cronicas Y Leyendas talks about Scorpio being one of the best rudos ever.
  • DJ Spectro tells a story about meeting Scorpio for the first time
  • Al Filo del Ring has an old interview with both Scorpios.
  • Perros del Mal put up a note on their site, as did AAA (using a photo of his short lived gimmick there, Quasimodo). CMLL posted condolences on twitter and had a moment of applause during last night’s show.

CMLL (FRI) 06/25 Arena Mexico [@cmllmagazine, SuperLuchas, CMLL]
1) Metálico & Trueno b Cholo & Zayco
2) Arkangel de la Muerte, Puma King, Tiger Kid b Ángel Azteca Jr., Ángel de Oro, Ángel de Plata
3) Eléctrico b Astral [lightning]
4) Fabián el Gitano, Sagrado, Stuka Jr. b Cancerbero, Raziel, Virus
5) Averno, Jushin Lyger, Mephisto b Blue Panther, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara
6) Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas DQ La Sombra, Místico, Shocker

It was a very Peste Negra night. Niebla faked a foul from Sombra to draw the DQ. Earlier, Negro Casas was given the Trofeo Bobby Bonales.

Lyger worked well with Averno & Mephisto.

Astral was said to look nervous.

Puma snuck in a foul on Angel de Oro for the win.

Matches teased for the anniversary show on this week’s Ras de Lona

  • Mistico vs Mr. Aguila, mask vs hair
  • Fabian el Gitano vs Dr. X (the return!), mask vs mask

Yes, all of those for the anniversary show. Apparently, it’ll be a long show and slightly newsworthy.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update, including info on EAW’s next show including Latin Lover.

  1. @Nikita: It’s gonna be a long frustrating wait for the Anniversary show if you fall for every tease.:) Don’t confuse CMLL’s totally random week-to-week lazy booking for some sort of master plan.

  2. Oh, I’m totally not falling for their teases. Contrary to most everyone here, I kinda like CMLL’s booking style. Sure, it is frustrating when it works so formulated, but it keeps me guessing more than what anyone else out there does.

For what it is worth I’m sticking with my cage theory until proven otherwise!

  3. Cage is fun, because it’s always a guessing game.

I have no clue why Peste Negra are still rudos.

Tons of AAA footage on the MTV2 special.

  4. @Alfredo: *L* For reals? Hopefully not Brazo De Plata vs Asesino Negro or we’ll get a 10 page essay by OJ on what real wrestling is.

  5. @Rob: I’m just glad there’s something airing that isn’t that same IWRG show.

I believe its the 6/22 show. 3rd match on that card looks like the lineup opening the show.

  6. @Alfredo: Does this remind you of that one time a random full GDL show aired on that channel that aired CMLL Sin Limite in 2005?

If Neutron makes a TV appearence I fully expect Henrik to show up again!

  7. Scratch what I said about the date. I don’t know when this is from since it has Guerrero de la Muerte and he doesn’t show up in Cubs listings. It also has Malefico.

Felino is part of the announce crew.

  8. The thing is, Shocker, Felino and (of course) Julio Cesar are clearly calling this back in a voice over studio in Mexico City, so someone’s been taping GDL shows with no commentary and that person probably needs to share with Alfredo.

  9. @thecubsfan: I told you CMLL has been showing lots of weekly GDL highlights on their Noti CMLL segment. CMLL doesn’t share anything. Ever.

So I still find it strange that they can tape their own GDL shows but aren’t allowed to use TVC footage of their own Puebla events.

  10. Scratch that, I remember Momentos once aired a clip of Garza’s botched dive in Puebla. Which makes it all the strange when the invaders angle took place CMLL TV only showed pictures.

  11. Has the show had the usual IWRG fuck-ups like random edited falls or the show going off the air out of nowhere?

  12. @Rob: It aired pretty complete. They still have the same habit of ending the show immediately after the pin, but at least they aired the conclusion to the last match. Its annoying because I like when there’s something that lets me know the show is done like a fade-out or some credits. If you miss the end of the match they go directly to commercials so you end up wondering if there’s more after.

  13. Checking out Cubs twitter comments, I think AAA and LLUSA will be working together again.

For fun, let’s count the hours of CMLL

    Televisa 2
    Cadena 3 2
    Fox 1
    52mx 1
    GDL 1
    Puebla 2
    LATV 1
    Ras .5

  14. Everything wrong with Lucha Libre: This women’s match.

Everything right with Lucha Libre: The upcoming mini’s match.

  15. I kinda wanna see a Goya Kong/Tzuki love child. Goya looks like 25 girls I knew in high school.

  16. Just finished the GDL show…

Looks like the third fall of La Mascara/Averno was cut. This will be a nuisance if this show continues.

The editing was very non-traditional unlike the 52MX/FSE/LATV shows. Those shows know how much time they need to fill before a commercial and will just calculate how much of the fall they can air. If they only need 35 seconds of footage, they’ll only air 35 seconds of the end of the fall without worrying about what they missed. This show had multiple edits of the ‘down time’ so to speak. For example they went from a Palacio Negro exchange (edit) to the middle of a Metal Blanco exchange (edit) to the rudos taking over the second fall. In the third fall they went from a triple dive (edit) to another dive spot. So whoever did the editing was more focused on getting all the big moments in rather than just airing the final 3 minutes of the third fall. This is a good thing.

Coliseo GDL looks the same as always. That building never changes.

If this isn’t a one-time deal it could be fun seeing Palacio Negro weekly. He was exactly as hyped. Still really green though but has already seemingly passed Metal Blanco on the depth chart which isn’t shocking.

  17. @LLL: Yeah they joined it abruptly and went to break as soon as it ended so I figured they were gonna squeeze in the top 3 matches as well.

But of course this is the worst wrestling show on TV so they’re just showing extra dancing segments.

  18. This, ladies and gentlemen, is why CMLL ratings suck.

They are giving an TWO AND A HALF MINUTES to Invitado Especial.

  19. @LLL: Invitado especial is clearly more important than the Lightning Match which got less time.

Now a 9 minute commercial just in time to return for a 3 minute second fall.

If there were any awards for the worst in television, I’d nominate this show.

  20. @Rob: What’s your take on Peste Negra? It seems like they are over and should be fighting the rudos.

This invitado stuff is annoying. Heck, they even showed the guy again, before going to a commercial. He’s getting more television time than people who need it.

CMLL used to provide cool pre-taped segments with top stars, usually from a park, but at least they explained angles. Now it’s all about Riano hosting segments. I bet he’s jockeying for a better job with Televisa.

  21. Now with the score 3-0 everyone can flip to CMLL and see a commercial. GOLD!

@LLL: Peste Negra are too well liked to be tecnicos.

  22. @LLL: Do you think CMLL knows/cares how awful they make themselves look when fans in the crowd are interviewed and can’t name a single CMLL wrestler when asked who their favorite is? Or when they they are asked if they are enjoying the show and they say just a little?

  23. Love CMLL promoting the Nuevo Laredo show on TV. “Hey look Mexico City fans, you’ll never see a big match like this!”

  24. @Rob: I wonder who has final say of the final product on Televisa? My guess is Televisa wants the shit with Riano and Tarzan’s wife b/c you can’t see it on the other CMLL shows, so it makes Televisa’s show different.

  25. @LLL: If that’s the case why doesn’t AAA have the same thing? They only suffer from the long commercials. They manage to not have to deal with the constant edecanes dancing clips, lame segments* and announcers constantly on the screen.

    * = Not counting actual AAA produced lame backstage segments.

  26. LOL @ Dr. Alfonso Morales for saying to Riano, “No me digas invitado especial”. Even he is tired of that shit.

  27. @Rob: Not sure why AAA does not have to do the stupid fan of week stuff. CMLL on Televisa was better when they were exclusive. Now that it’s on all over the place, it has become the worst television show in North America.
