These should be weeks 4 thru 6, so I might have missed a match. They did a bit where Super Nova came out to challenge someone, so maybe that’ll take up a spot. (The guy didn’t come out, but Nova did catch up with him later.)

The guy who sent in the match report did a pretty good job identifying as many people as he did, because there was no real lineup identifying people or matches, just promising the top guys and promoting the show as a taping. Since this isn’t on TV (and even when it is), the promotion probably should be doing all it can to introduce their luchadors and over play their roles. My theory has always been that people have more fun yelling “You suck [insert name here]” than just “You suck”. Match order isn’t right, but it’d change again before they air it.

Attendance was about 175, which left the building empty up enough that they were moving people around to make it look more full. It’s a shame they’ve gone with $20/$40 tickets, because an actual full building would look better on TV and it’s really the TV show that’s going to make or break this, not the events. On the other hand, they probably can use all the revenue streams they can get while trying to get this started.

Show was said to be a fun time, better than the California show sounded.

Heel RJ Brewer explained they were using a 4 sided ring in his usual anti-immigration bit. The six sided ring is just too Mexican! After a lawn mowing line, a locker room clearing brawl erupted. Magno later beat him in a match.

Rellik was DQed for spitting mist in Charly’s face.

Awesome Kong is indeed the ex-TNA/current indies woman, and pinned the exotico Chi Che. That may be the new weirdest match ever.

Oriental side slammed Mascarita Dorada to pin that match.

Mini Halloween, who I may have on the wrong team, appeared to suffer a lower leg/ankle injury when he was one of a group of people catching a dive. They got his boot off and carried him to the back.  Marco’s friend Solid was handing donuts to front row fans.

No word on when the next taping is, but they’ve got time to work on it.

  1. I forgot to mention they did have a ‘jumbotron’ of sorts where the wrestlers entered that ran a pre-taped intro video with their name, but they put the name behind the wrestler most of the time. Rellik was growling at the camera, so you only saw Re—k. You are dead on, it they are going to get this, mainstream they need to do a better job of identifying who is who. Great blog…

  2. Any photos from the event??

I really hope this does well, MTV has had bad luck with wrestling so far.

  3. Wonder what happened to the six-sided ring? Probably based in California, which would cost too much to transport to Springfield.

  4. 175 is low, how many people the building seats?

P.S. Can you provide more 100%lucha cubs?

  5. @Alex:

Actually, I think that WSX did well for MTV, relatively speaking, but the network decided to revamp its entire lineup midway through the season.

  6. Speaking from experience…it’s both a matter of dollars and cents and network image and support.

The good thing for LLUSA is that they have the network support and they are being embraced by the new network image for MTV 2 and 3. In reality, MTV 3 wanted a lucha show, could not afford it, so teamed with MTV 2 and viola! So that is going to keep it on the air longer than WSX, regardless of ratings.

The part about being cost effective, I don’t know enough about the business model to know. WSX was a joint venture to create a TV program between Big Vision Entertainment and MTV.

Originally, MTV 2/3 bought into airing 52 weeks of AAA tapes with English commentary. There was not an original intent to start a new league. Now that it’s gone that way, not sure if they increased the budget or if LLUSA is subsidizing the costs and trying to make up for it by selling shows and/or on live gates. For their sake, after drawing 175, I hope that’s not the case. And for the venue in Springfield, I sure hope it wasn’t a sold show.

  7. @Kevin K: They are sold shows. Once they are on tv, they’ll get more venues to “mark out” and buy, just like TNA does.

I suspect LLUSA will work with AAA again.
