CMLL Press Conference notes (Niebla returns)

No big mask or hair mask was announced, and a lot of it was getting attention to matches that have been mention this week. There were a few surprises

  • The biggest surprise, and probably the biggest news, was the return of Mr. Niebla. Pesta Negra is reunited for the first time since February. CMLL says Mr. Niebla, who hasn’t been seen in a match since the end of March, has been in the United States rehabbing his knee for the last three months. No word on when he’ll have his first match.
  • The 2nd Copa de Bobby Bonales will take place on June 25th. The 1st Copa took place last year. I could not remember this, because it turns out the entirety of last year’s Copa was Bonales’ son giving Blue Panther a trophy. Unclear how/what this will be this year.
  • Hype for Mistico vs Mr. Aguila and Poder Mexica vs MSM Fly. Dorada, Stuka and Metro want a mask match, of course.
  • Taichi talked about returning to Japan (but promising revenge on Maximo), Sombra talked about the Best of Super Juniors and Lyger and Yoshihashi’s upcoming appearances were previewed.

  1. Why announce Niebla returning? Why not have Casas and Felino getting beat down by some heels and Niebla does the run-in? This would set up Peste vs. whoever. I think they’re tecnicos in the eyes of the fans.

  2. The CMLL guys are indeed on Estrella TV right now. I recorded it, so I’ll go back later to try and figure out how recent it is.

  3. Well, it was a good show with Sims and Zellner.

I thought the same about Lyger vs. Casas after watching Ras de Lona. I can’t see it happening though. One of the Invasores will lose at Anniversary IMO.

I did not understand why Sims was questioning the decision to send Sombra to Japan. He’s not the only one questioning it. For some reason, people aren’t happy that he went, but he has had good matches thus far.

I still think LA Park is in the market to lose his mask, but no one has the money to pay for it.

Zellner is right on the spelling of Par-K. It was originally spelled that way.

  4. @LLL: Maybe CMLL was worried the Peste Negra return was going to be leaked by upcoming lineups before they could run the angle? CMLL prefers to run their angles at press conferences.
