Sin Salida & TripleMania Preview

CHAT plans: Tentative plan for the day is to open the chat at 5 (Central Time). That’s when CMLL’s show is starting, and we can talk about the last hour of AAA while reading twitter updates from @cmllmagazine. Or, you can wait until 7:30pm, when TripleMania’s PPV starts. (Or wait until 8, when TripleMania probably actually starts.)

TripleMania and chat will probably wrap something around 11:30, so you may want to fade in and out during the evening. I’ll be covering the shows in the usual methods, so check in you want.

There’ll be a news post sometime before the show. Plenty of good stuff that’ll be overshadowed by the end of the evening. SPOILER: CMLL thinks Sombra isn’t winning the BOSJ or forget how long he’s gone.

And now, to the preview…

Mr. Trueno defeats Gallo to win the title, and they actually have the belt this time and everyone. No one pays attention to Mictlan.

CIMA wins the IWRG Weltweight title, and we don’t hear about it for another year. Unless I’m supposed to take the DragonGate Mexico sign seriously.

For everything else:

CMLL (SUN) 06/06 Arena Mexico

Is there a point to doing match by match here? No, because the first three matches are irrelevant. Minis match will be good but we won’t ever see it so who knows, and the second and third matches could be good but probably will be just okay. Hopefully someone realizes Olimpico can’t be part of an anti-CMLL army if he’s kissing the CMLL logo on the way to the ring. Move him back into the regular rudos, if they must keep him.

FWIW: Latin Lover says he will not be here – or across town – because the show came to promote on Friday is actually on Sunday, and will keep him busy from 5-10.

4) Máscara Dorada, Místico, Mr. Águila vs Averno, Negro Casas, Volador Jr. [Relevos Increíbles]

They could completely close up the Mistico/Volador feud here by having them get along after fighting off the rudos after the match, but then they’d have to acknowledge that feud actually exists. Same thing with a Volador turn. There’s the right guys here for this to be really good, but there’s the right guys here for this to be a big angle and not much of a match. It is about time to identify who Mistico is feuding with if he’s meant to be the main event of the anniversary show, but that may not be the priority tonight.

Rob’s already strongly made this point, but it bares repeating: this match makes absolutely no sense on a CMLL vs Indepedents themed show. It’s a random Friday night show match, but they probably could accomplish the same end result with something like Mistico/Volador/Averno vs Aguila/Garza/indy whoever (Super Crazy is obvious but apparently busy now, Zumbido would be thrilled to come back even for a single show, Oriental is coming back), plus then you have an ultra-intriguing CMLL team.

5) Brazo de Plata, Rayo de Jalisco Jr., Strong Man vs Gigante Bernard, Máscara Año 2000, Universo 2000

No one is enthused by the Invaders her, but the other side is not better. The big defenders of CMLL are an independent tecnico (only explanation for his schedule), an independent tecnico, and a foreigner in a promotion where all foreigners are evil by default. This is on level with the Junior Dinamites as IWRG’s Defenders.

I know the hope by many is this match is awful and rejected and the crowd at Arena Mexico is down, forcing a reaction, but I don’t think it’ll be one we’ll actually like. CMLL brought Rayo & the Dinamitas back because someone(s) believed they would be a major draw in Arena Mexico in 2010. I think it’s actually possible that, for one match and one match only, Rayo might mean something back after many years, but if someone’s still holding onto the belief Universo & Mascara are relevant, they’re probably not going to be swayed by one bad turnout. They likely don’t have the same strength of belief in the ex-AAA guys (or they wouldn’t be working the 2nd and 3rd matches), so this is going to hurt them more if it goes bad.

6) Taichi vs Máximo [hair]

When it was announced, I was sure Taichi was winning. When everyone made sure to point out Maximo lost this same match last year to Okumura, and it sounded like Taichi was finishing up after this match, I was sure Maximo was winning. I don’t have total confidence in that pick – picking a Brazo to win is an iffy thing – but Brazo de Plata just won Guadalajara so maybe it’s the start of a winning streak.

You know, if Mr. Niebla really just had knee problems, wouldn’t you have him use some crutches and stand in Maximo’s corner? It’d be an actual second who’d mean something. (A finish with Niebla revealing he’s okay and helping Maximo win would get over huge, too.)

This show should wrap no later than 8, and probably sooner. As much as they’re talking about this being a CMLL vs AAA war, hardcore fans really don’t need to choice between both shows. You can get home from this show to see most of the PPV – or you can hop on the Metro and just go the other show. It’d be a bit costly, but the CMLL tickets are cheap, Ticketmaster still says there are blocks of 4 seats available on the floor and it’d be a memorable, if tiring night.

1) Mini Abismo Negro vs Mini Charly Manson, Octagoncito, Mascarita Divina, Mini Histeria, Mascarita Sagrada, Mini Psicosis [AAA MINI, Ladder]

The idea is Mini Abismo Negro picked this stipulation to defend his belt. Mini Abismo Negro has always struck me as a smart man, and he’s well versed in many martial arts. I don’t see this idea coming out of his brain.

I guess Mini Abismo retains, but it really matters as much as the minis opener on the CMLL show. Except everyone will be hurting more (but probably paid better, at least for this night.)

Last year, TripleMania got six matches on the pay per view broadcast. The WarGames match went longer than probably any match on this show will go (and hopefully Wagner’s title match won’t go as long as last year’s too), so maybe seven is a possibility. If they have to cut one, this is the one they’re cutting.

2) Jennifer Blade, Rain, Sexy Star vs Cinthia Moreno, Fabi Apache, Mari Apache [loser is a maid]

When this stip was announced, I made a joke wondering how Fabi was going to get out of this one. The joke is still not really funny, but it’s also the truth. Fabi didn’t get her head shaved in December. This is the make up. Poor Mari & Cinthia.

3) Nosawa vs Christopher Daniels, Jack Evans, Extreme Tiger [AAA CRUISER]

Same problem here as will be in the tag title match; if AAA can get a guarantee of the foreigner coming back for Verano de Escandalo (or even Pena Memorial, since it’s not much later), then they might as well give them it. They don’t use these titles except for the big shows, and they like putting the belts on internationals to prove internationally famous people hold their belts (just none of the people in the company are internationally famous enough to hold their own belts.)

That said, Jack is way over and should have the belt already. Jack being lined up with Alex on the post-PPV taping makes me hope that’s the case. Match should be good.

4) Abyss & Cibernético vs Vampiro & Zorro

GREAT if you want blood and props and not actually good wrestling. Vampiro & Zorro probably should win in their first match.

5) Alex Koslov, Chessman, Hernandez vs Heavy Metal, Octagón, Pimpinela Escarlata [seconds hair]

Actually a tough one. Some rudo ought to lose at some point, but they’re going places with Hernandez. Tirantes has been so all over everything, this is probably his moment to take a fall, but probably in some screwy way.

This looks like it’d be a underwhelming match on most shows, given the tecnico side, but the TripleMania crowd may get more out of them.

6) Silver King & Último Gladiador vs Atsushi Aoki & Go Shiozaki and James Storm & Robert Roode and Joe Lider & Nicho el Millionario [AAA TAG]

This four way seems more worrisome than the last. They’re more random groups with more likely communication problems. With Silver King being set up against Wagner, the NOAH pairing being a random one, and Beer Money probably just in for this show, these titles reset back to 187.

7) LA Park vs La Parka Jr. [identity]

A million billion run-ins and inconclusive finish. The AAA Parka will win the Parka name, because the AAA Parka will always be the ‘true’ Parka by definition. Far more interesting is where they leave this. Konnan says the plan was to drag this out for two years more, doing the mask versus mask match at TripleMania 20, and if that wasn’t questionable to begin with, it became that way when LA Park starting punching out people in hilarious fashion.

Which way the crowd goes will be pretty interesting as well.

8) Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Electroshock [AAA HEAVY]

Electroshock was meant to be a transitional champion, dropping it on this show.. He was just supposed to be transitioning it to Marco Corleone. Names have changed, but I don’t believe plans have changed.

They’re going to try their hardest to make this a great match. The worry is they try too hard and go too long. Still, this’d be a fine night for Electroshock to have the best match of his career.

  1. I don’t know if this is frowned upon, but could I be so bold as to ask where I might see this? Or is it just a matter of finding out when it starts?

Will Justin.tv be my friend for it?

  2. The folks on the Mexican message boards are always eager to find online links to WWE PPV’s but in the past have never provided streams for any Lucha Libre shows so I wouldn’t hold my breath.

  3. Awh man, don’t tell me I’ve just gotten so used to everything streaming all the time that I’d just assumed it’d be on :(

If they’d do an Internet ppv for this I’d buy it-at $15 say. Would anybody else?

Don’t worry,I know it’d take years, or forever, for them to actually do it.

Looks like an after the fact Youtube or LoverIce for us then?

So wanted to see LA Park’s match!

  4. It’ll be on youtube by tomorrow via WarriorsX2000.

CMLL has someone filming HD footage of every show they do. They have a website to put it on or a youtube channel. They could do it for free as a thank you or charge money for the hardcore fans. They choose to do neither.

IWRG has no television right now and if it wasn’t for BlackTerryJr nobody would be seeing anything that goes on inside Arena Naucalpan.

Mexican wrestling fans who know how to use the internet properly can download any WWE show or Japan show they want. Links are passed freely all day long on the message board. Yet only 2 people in all of Mexico care enough to upload the actual AAA/CMLL/IWRG shows. Sometimes not even every week. And don’t even try to look around for a source to record shows via DVD on a weekly basis even if you offer lots of $$$.

I hate to use the stereotype that most Mexicans are lazy but these facts speak for themselves.

What we need to do is arrange an internet blackout of all WWE uploads until someone in Mexico agrees to cap all the weekly Lucha Libre shows.:)

  5. I asked this prior to TripleMania last year & I’m going to ask this question again this year…… Does anyone think that any surprise turns/jumps from another promotion will occur tonight? For example: Volador Jr. turning rudo, Los Perros del Mal doing a run-in during Triplemania.

  6. I would if I only knew how to (I currently have dial up connection but I can upgrade it) . I have access to Triplemania via Sky Mexico and have not buy it yet as I am no that into AAA; however I am very grateful with you all sharing your comments and streaming (not that I am able to see it yet but my countrymen do).
If somebody explains how to send the TV signal to streaming I would do so.

  7. @Calabcd44: more surprises? Haven’t you had enough in the last month? LOL!

@Rob: I’d agree with the lazy part for lucha promoters, but that kind of goes with most wrestling promoters. The guys who do well usually get someone to do that sort of thing for them. Then they screw them over at some point.:)

  8. I think I know of a few sites that will be streaming today. I will post links later if they come through.

I think a nice shocker would be if Perro’d showed up at both Triplemania and CMLL. I have a feeling that all these promotion unions are going to lead to a Super Show at Azteca within the next few years, just a hunch.

  9. I don’t have a clue what’s going to happen tonight, besides a long Konnan promo during Triplemania. But a Cuije/Ke-Monito confrontation needs to occur.

@LuChava: What does CMLL have to gain from doing that?
    Reply

Well I think it adds to the invaders angle they are running. The story itself was intended to look like AAA was invading CMLL. Hell I think it was being well developed when they would show up at the small shows and working towards invading Arena Mexico. To bad they seem to have come to a road block in booking.

Not to mention its a big FU to AAA.

  11. Cuije/Ke-Monito – Lucha de Apuesta – 77th Anniversary

Seriously they could have that one match and nothing else and I’d travelle from Denmark to Mexico and pay to see it.

  12. Torreon looks awesome on television, and they should go back.

If you guys remember, Lucha was banned from this building. Now I see they have bleachers/risers on the floor so they must’ve put serious money into the venue, and rethought their decision to ban money making Lucha.

  13. @LLL: Haven’t heard any stories about the floor being ripped up, so maybe they’ll be fine coming back.

  14. This place claims it’ll have the Triplemania PPV-
    http://www.tv-wrestling.com/

They’re currently showing AAA show, about 2mins after XEJ, so it’s likely somebody else streaming it themselves. So there may be some hope?
