04/13-18 CMLL lineups

CMLL (TUE) 04/13 Arena Mexico
1) Bengala & Principe vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Fabián el Gitano, Leono, Starman vs Durango Kid, Puma King, Tiger Kid
3) Bam Bam, Fantasy, Pequeño Olímpico vs Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Universo 2000, Pequeño Violencia
4) Rush, Stuka Jr., Valiente vs Euforia, Sangre Azteca, Vangelis
5) Shocker, Strong Man, Volador Jr. vs Averno, Taichi, Último Guerrero

More Strong Man and UG. Note Pequeno Damian continues to use that name. CMLL.com hasn’t removed the “challengers” line from the semimain last I checked.

CMLL (FRI) 04/16 Arena Mexico
1) Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío II vs Apocalipsis & Bronco
2) Bracito de Oro, Eléctrico, Shockercito vs Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito
3) Diamante & La Sombra vs Blue Panther & Rey Cometa and Héctor Garza & Pólvora and La Máscara & Sensei and Atlantis & Inquisidor and Disturbio & Terrible and Cancerbero & Mephisto and Rey Bucanero & Semental [Gran Alternativa]
4) Místico vs Felino

I like to think I follow lucha libre closely, and I have absolutely no idea what the plan is for Mistico.

Obviously, Hector Garza & Polvora is the interesting pair of this block,  since Garza hasn’t officially turned rudo, or this his first appearance back on the rudo side. I’m hoping he hasn’t actually turned rudo yet, because they still need to get the trios title of him.

Diamante & Sombra looks such the favorite they can’t actually win. Panther/Cometa has a chance and may play into whatever they’re doing with him and the Avernos. They missed a golden chance to team up Cancerbero of the Cancerberos with Averno of the Avernos. Pretty sure Atlantis wont’t win his second tournament of the year. Semental is a sub for Camorra. Or will be at least until Bucanero turns on him, declaring he shall only team with pirates from now on!

CMLL (SUN) 04/18 Arena Mexico
1) Metálico & Trueno vs Cholo & Zayco
2) Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Molotov vs Dr. X, Nitro, Raziel
3) Fuego, Metro, Pegasso vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Euforia, Nosferatu
4) Brazo de Plata, Máximo, Sagrado vs Ray Mendoza Jr., Shigeo Okumura, Taichi
5) Shocker, Strong Man, Toscano vs Atlantis, Último Guerrero, Vangelis

Vangelis Main Event – surely a fan appreciation card if I ever saw one. I think I would rather have 3 over 2 (though Maya is quickly becoming Mr. 52MX), but 4 and 5 are closer to a wash than you’d expect with the rudo side. All Strong Man matches are Strong Man matche. They really should team Porky & Maximo with Strong Man, so there could be a non-comedy match as well.

Trauma I retains, Mistico still cheating his way to wins

IWRG (THU) 04/08 Arena Naucalpan [Estrellas del RingThe Gladiatores]
1) Dinamic BlackEpidemia
2) Comando Negro & Hijo del SignoDaga & Héros
3) Avisman, El Hijo del Diablo, Trauma IIGemelo Fantastico I, Gemelo Fantastico II, Zatura
4) Chico Che, el Ángel, La RocaBarba Roja, Dr. Cerebro, Masada
5) Trauma IHijo de Pirata Morgan [AMERICAS LH]

Trauma took the first fall, Barba Roja interfered to help Pirata win the second, Trauma took the third clean.

Masada replaced Black Terry, ensuring that rudo team couldn’t get along. Masada made the title challenge for Sunday.

CMLL (FRI) 04/09 Arena Mexico [@cmllmagazine, CesarOvacionesSuperLuchasESTO]
1) Inquisidor & SementalAstro Boy & Trueno
2) Euforia, Nosferatu, PólvoraÁngel Azteca Jr., Ángel de Oro, Ángel de Plata
3) ValienteSangre Azteca [lightning]
4) Averno, Ephesto, MephistoBlue Panther, Stuka Jr., Toscano
5) Terrible, Texano Jr., VangelisHéctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara
6) La Sombra, Máscara Dorada, Místico DQ Dragon Rojo Jr., Felino, Negro Casas

In the main event, “100% tecnico” Mistico took off his mask and threw it to Felino to draw the DQ. He’s still acting like a rudo. Sombra did not get along with him, but Mascara Dorada has no problem and the crowd was behind Mistico. Mistico challenged Felino to a mask vs hair match, Felino didn’t seem too interesting.

Tecnicos lost the semifinal in straight falls, with Garza having trouble accidentally hitting both his partners and walking out on them after the match. Looks like Garza is turning rudo, and maybe they’re setting the title match beforehand.

In the first fall, Averno offered a handshake to Panther, and used it to immediately beat the maestro. Rudos pulled another trick in the third fall, and @cmllmagazine notes this is the second straight week they’ve tricked Panther.

Semental replaced an injured Camorra. Reality shows are tough!

If I’m reading this blog entry correct (questionable at best), Mima Shimoda is leaving Mexico.

DJ Spectro has posts on Solitario vs Bestia Negra, part 2 of the history of lucha in Tampico, and on the Contreas video game.

Cronicas Y Leyendas writes about Canek & NJPW in Pakistan.

Lineups much later.

CMLL on LATV #4 (03/20/2010)

Arena Mexico, 03/12/2010

Bracito de Oro vs Pequeño Warrior in a lightning match: I actually think this feud is as great as a Bracito de Oro vs Pequeno Warrior feud could possible be; the improvised work on the cut here was especially inspired. Not just the workers, but the programming – this is a longer and stronger build than either of Fire’s big matches. Just, Bracito de Oro doesn’t seem quite as worth the effort, and it’s not clear they’re actually heading to an endpoint.

Delta, Diamante, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Dr. X, Hooligan, Nitro: Maybe someone can find the clean version of Delta’s theme music? He’s doing crazy moves, we should be able to enjoy his entrance without bleed. Fun counter to the usual finish.

CMLL Guerreros del Ring on CAN52 #226 (03/20/2010)

Arena Mexico, 03/14/2010

Fabián el Gitano, Leono, Starman vs Bronco, Puma King, Tiger Kid: It’d be nice if all the strange finishes of late were going somewhere. That doesn’t seem like the usual plan.

Anyway, sometimes I imagine Team CatHorse as a kid’s cartoon street gang, with Puma and Tiger as the loudmouths who get them in trouble and Bronco as the kinda dumb goon who beats people up for them, and so it’s always weird when he’s the captain. I don’t imagine anyone else has this problem.

Máximo, Metro, Rush vs Ray Mendoza Jr., Sangre Azteca, Vangelis: not horrible or anything, but certaintly nothing you ever need to see. I can’t say Rush doesn’t try (especially after that phantom powerslam), he’s just not very good. Even though he’s in the same high spot, it does feel like they’ve started to realize this and scaled him back.

31) mystery guy in red

5 spots left, with 20 possibilities: Jack Evans, Teddy Hart, Joe Lider, Nicho el Millionario, Laredo Kid, Aerostar, Alebrije, Crazy Boy, Pimpinela, Espiritu, Latin Lover, Histeria, Ultimo Gladiador, Black Abyss, Chris Stone, El Brazo, Decnnis, Billy Boy, Marco Corleone, and Oriental. Many of those guys are not still around, but this roster was finalized a while back and they haven’t taken out anyone who’s since left.

mystery man from the trailer

My guess is Jack, Teddy, Lider, Nicho and Crazy Boy. That last one is a bit of a reach because Marco or Latin would be a bigger deal, but Crazy would be so sad if he wasn’t in this game. I also can’t shake the feeling that we would’ve seen Jack & Teddy already if they were actually in this game, but I have no actual facts to base it on. If it were up to me, I’d make Kahoz or Espectro de Ultratumba a hidden boss of some sort, but I would be surprised to see it.

It may not even be 6 spots, though. There’s a guy shown briefly, in a red one strapped singlet, wearing red boots with a lightning bolt on them. He’s got Gronda’s colors and Silver King’s body, but doesn’t appear to be either of them.

The most recent WWE games have included extra downloadable wrestlers for a fee. No idea if this game will get that sort of support.

Safe to assume that women or mini would’ve been spotted by now if they were going to be in this game. Disappointing, but not altogether surprising. That’s for the next version.

Edit late Friday: I’ve been told Jack Evans was in the game by those playing it at the Acclaim show. I’ve also read X-Pac mentioned by a commenter in the game, though I don’t trust anonymous commenters enough to count him as confirmed. X-Pac in this game would be bizarre to anyone not familiar with 2008-2009 AAA. Heck, I watched 2009 AAA and it still seems bizarre.

Edit: I forgot to take Escoria out from up in that paragraph.

Felino takes Mistico’s mask (sort of), AAA Video Game US release date, Wagner/Electro at TripleMania?

CMLL (THU) 04/08 Arena Neza [Estrellas del Ring]
1) Aguilia Misteriosa & Mini Flash b Hooligan I & Hooligan II
2) Carta Brava Jr., Halcon Tarin, Halcon Tarin Jr. b Bizarro, El Canalla, Ice Killer
3) Brazo Cibernetico Jr., Brazo de Platino, Super Brazo b Demonio Negro, Loco Max, Skándalo
4) Dark Angel, Lluvia, MarcelaAmapola, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sujei
5) La Sombra & Volador Jr.Felino & Místico

Rudos took the first, tecnicos took the second. Third came down to Volador and Mistico. With the referee distracted, Felino (eliminated earlier) came back into the ring and stole Mistico’s mask, a bit of revenge for Dos Leyendas. Volador pinned Mistico for the win.

Marcela replaces Lady Apache. Or maybe they just traded bookings from here and Puebla?

Friday Night Arena Mexico previews: ESTO, Notimex, Ovaciones. Big story is Mistico’s return to the tecnico side, teaming with Sombra & Mascara Dorada. This won’t end well. Semimain is the trios champs vs Terrible, Texano, Vangelis, which sure seems like a title match setup.

Konami sent out a press release yesterday announcing they’d be distributing AAA’s video game in the US. Release date is August 9th (a Monday; odd, because usual releases are Tuesdays.) Beyond the press release, Konami was showing off the game last night. Gameinformer has a good review, noting the gameplay doesn’t distinguish it from other wrestling games, but it does include mask and hair wagering. Looking thru the pictures, Extreme Tiger made the roster. Cuervo and Super Fly surprised me, but then I remembered we had seen them before.

Ovaciones says Wagner/Electro (for the title) and Parka/Park (stip unknown) are signed for TripleMania. I think that’s likely but not for certain.

Black Mamba talks talks about Monday’s mask vs hair match with Pimpinela Escarlata.

Black Terry Jr. has photos of last night’s IWRG show.

DJ Spectro has a ton of posts: part 3 of America Salvaje’s story, the history of lucha libre in Tampico, El Solitario, los Cavernario Galindo, and who Who Are These Three Young Wrestlers.

LuchaWorld has 80 to 71 of the best in 2009 countdown.
