04/30 CMLL & AAA live results

Thru the night (here and on twitter), I’ll be posting results from both the CMLL Arena Mexico show and AAA TV taping, happening tonight. The CMLL show will probably go from 8:30-11:15 Central Time. The AAA show is scheduled to start at 8:45, will probably start a lot later than that, and will not end until some undetermined time on Saturday. I’ll be staying until the end.

(it’s either this or catch up on the last AAA I have to watch.)

places I’ll be using all night:

Of course, CMLL Magazine isn’t tweeting yet and neither of the AAA websites are even mentioning tonight’s taping. It is Friday, right?

855pm update: CMLL Magazine is updating! But neither AAA site has mentioned tonight’s taping, so I’m just presuming they’re not going live this time.

900pm update: and EstadioWeb’s Arena Mexico coverage is LIVE. Hooray.

920pm update: while the radio is on some sort of musical interlude – what is AAA’s facebook account, anyway? http://www.facebook.com/pages/Lucha-Libre-AAA would seem to be it, but that doesn’t seem updated.

958pm update: every single announcer picks Mini Warrior. Hmmm. By the way, Dos de Tres’ facebook is updating.

Results

CMLL (FRI) 04/30 Arena Mexico
1) Leono & StarmanBronco & Inquisidor (2-1)
2) Fuego & Metro b Euforia & Raziel (2-1) – bad night for Cancerbros? Metro talked about his great tag team partner, “Flash”. Name change is killing that man.
3) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Luna MágicaHiroka, Mima Shimoda, Princesa Blanca (2-1)
4) Pequeño Warrior b Bracito de Oro [mask] (2-1)
Brazo de Oro seconded Bracito de Oro, Sangre Azteca was with Warrior. First fall for Warrior, second for Bracito, third for Warrior. In much the same way as Rosa Negra, Bracito de Oro appears to have gone done with an injury in his mask match, and it delayed the name annoucement. Roberto Rodriguez Aguirre, 45 years old, 26 years a wrestler, from Oaxaca – announcers actually spoiled it a minute early. Bracito was up and thanking the fans when they went to break.

5)  Héctor Garza & Pólvora b Delta & Volador Jr. [Gran Alternativa, final] (2-1)

Tecnicos dominated the first, but the rudos stole the fall. Tecnicos came back to win the second. Crowd is as loud for Volador as they’ve been for anyone all night. (They were behind Bracito at times, but there was also a “ole ole ole rudos rudos” chant after that match.) Long third fall, ultimately won by Polvora sneaking in a foul.

Main event is not starting until post 1120pm local time. Hope those Kids had naps.

6) Dragón Rojo Jr., Shigeo Okumura, Taichi, Último Guerrero b Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara, Místico, Strong Man

Tecnicos win in straight falls? I think. Nope, I misunderstood. Rudos won, with Taichi and Okumura making a challenge for the trios titles (w/Tanahashi) next week. UH OH.

Rudos take top 3 matches – so much for Kid’s Day.

AAA TV (FRI) 04/30 Gimnasio Jose Maria Arteaga, Queretaro, Queretaro
1) Mini Abismo Negro, Rain, Tigre Cota b Atomic Boy, Fabi Apache, Octagoncito

Match featured the usual bit of Hijo de Tirantes cheating for the rudos. This time, Piero challenged Hijo de Tirantes to a match – well, other people in a match. Each ref will pick three wrestlers to represent them at TripleMania, and the losing team’s ref gets their head shaved. Wonder who refs the match? This is clearly the way extra people get on the card – something like Jack/Rocky/Laredo Kid vs Zorro/Chessman/Kenzo

(though shouldn’t someone pick the Psycho Circus? Undefeated!)

2) Aerostar & RelampagoBilly Boy & Decnnis

Rudos lost due to the unhelpful assistance of Hilario. Decnnis was not happy. I’m still confused why Hilario exists.

3)  Alex Koslov, Christopher Daniels, Joe Lider b Extreme Tiger, Jack Evans, Rocky Romero

Daniels picked up the win. After the match, Koslov and Daniels turned on Lider, beating him up on behalf of the Legion. The tecnicos made the save. I think the story is supposed to be Joaquin Roldan brought in Daniels, and is shocked to find him allying with the Legion. I can not believe Joaquin Roldan could possibly be that dumb, because no functioning human being could be that dumb.

4) Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown dq Chessman, Hernandez, Kenzo Suzuki

Legion seemed like they were dominating on their way to a win, but Chessman’s use of handicuffs on Psycho Clown got them DQed.

Before the next match, LA Park came to the ring to accept LA Parka Jr.’s challenge for TripleMania. He did NOT specify the stipulation.

5) Electroshock, Silver King, Último Gladiador b Dr. Wagner Jr., Octagón, Pimpinela Escarlata

Short match, Silver King beating Pimpi. Electro/Wagner is announced for the next taping. They like doing the singles match to set up the singles match.

6) Cibernético, Heavy Metal, La Parka Jr. NC LA Park, Nicho el Millionario, Zorro

Just kind of ended? A million guys hit the ring to get the Parkas apart? Vampiro came out to make the save for Zorro at some point, and Zorro gives him rosary beads, so they’re friends. HOORAY FRIENDSHIP.

That appears to be it. We’ll fill in the blanks in the morning.

Mexico Preview, Mascara Sagrada, Mesias

Previews of tonight’s Arena Mexico show: Notimex, ESTO, Ovaciones, SuperLuchas, Fuego en el Ring.

[poll id=”64″]

Did the big preview earlier this week. I’m not sure how this poll will turn out (especially since this is going up so late), but it seems like most people expect Bracito de Plata to lose his mask and Delta & Volador to win. I’m still leaning towards Polvora getting the win. Delta doesn’t seem much more ready than Angel de Oro was last year and, as much as the alternative wasn’t much good either, it would’ve been a bad idea to give Angel de Oro the big push last year.

I’ll have live results for this show and the AAA taping on the site later tonight.

For reasons only know to them, AAA put out a press release saying Mascara Sagrada has not definitely won the rights to his name and the matter is still in front of the judicial system. The previous told story goes that Antonio Pena long ago held a contest to come up with a name for a new luchador, and a kid won with the name “Mascara Sagrada”. After Sagrada had his falling out with AAA, AAA said he couldn’t use the name, but Sagrada pointed out the kid created the name and was actually the one with the rights to it. We’ve been told since that a court case went in Mascara Sagrada’s benefit and he’s been using it since. When both were in CMLL, Mascara Sagrada seemed to have no issue using that name, while LA Park had changed his. AAA had their own Mascara Sagrada for a while, but his name (and look) was suddenly changed to Mascara Divina in 2006, which was believed to be related to the court case. (And now he appears to be the AAA Alebrije, but that’s a digression.)

AAA makes a point of saying they also own the name to Mascara Sagrada Jr. – they did have a character under that name, who may have been/is the new Alebrije – and maybe they’re just getting this out there because Mascara Sagrada’s son wants to use that name. (Though no one knows, since Mascara Sagrada barely turns up on cards lately.) This probably still is in the judicial system – an appeal would be enough, the whole statement sounds written by a lawyer who could be saying it’s not over until every appeal gets turned down. My best guess is this is about Histeria/Psicosis/Latin Lover/Alebrije trying to use Mascara Sagrada as a precedent to getting control of their own names. Even if the cases are nothing a lot, it’s easy to say “if he gets to take his name, why not us?”

Perros del Mal held a press conference for tomorrow’s show in Tijuana. Seems like the CMLL Invaders are still working these shows, though the article spelled Histeria’s name “Mysterva”. Grond XXX vowed not lost his mask in his home town.

Fuego en el Ring says TripleMania could be the last major AAA show Mesias works (if he’s healthy; if he actually was hurt?), because there are rumors of him going to the WWE. There are rumors of Mesias going to WWE? (Well, I guess there are NOW.)

AAA running a spot show tomorrow in Puebla. Main event is listed as Dr. Wagner & Ultimo Gladiador vs Alan Stone & Mesias.  Mesias either falsely advertised to wrestle or falsely advertised to have surgery is not the top amusing thing. They held a press conference for the show with the Psycho Circus, who proclaimed their match would be for win 596. Or maybe it is for win 597. Or maybe it is for win 598! By the time this match happens, it may be for win 738.

FELIX (FRI) 05/07 San Luis High Schoool, San Luis, Arizona
1) Espantito vs Sparkito [? MINI]
2) Super Kendo, Super Muñeco, Super Rino vs Chicano Power, Enfermero, Perro Ruso
3) Espectro Jr., Pirata Morgan, Tornado Negro vs El Hijo de Rey Misterio, Rubi Gardenia, Super Porky

They’re setting this show up for 3,000 people. SUGGESTION: do not set return matches. It probably won’t work out well.

04/29 IWRG Results (Silver King invades Arena Naucalpan?)

IWRG (THU) 04/29 Arena Naucalpan [Estrellas del Ring]
1) Keshin Black b Dinamic Black
2) Alan Extreme & Eterno b Guizmo & Miss Gaviota
3) Black Terry & Cerebro Negro b Trauma I & Trauma II
4) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro b Bombero Infernal, Maldito Jr., Samot
5) Avisman, El Hijo del Diablo, Gringo Loco b Hijo de Máscara Año 2000, Máscara Año 2000, Máscara Año 2000 Jr. [EdM Trios, final]

As the two teams were posing with the belts before the main event, who should happen to walk around the ring than Silver King. After shaking hands and taking free drinks, Silver King invited the fans to attended the filming of Nacho Libre 2, coming soon. (Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.) Silver King then took a seat in the front row to watch the match. Mascaras took the first, Gringos took the second. In the third, Avisman took out Hijo with a dive. Mascsara Jr. submitted Gringo Loco to a Gori Stretch, and Diablo pinned Mascara Sr. This left Jr. & Diablo in the ring, but Mascara re-entered and fouled Dibalo, then Junior picked up the pin.

After the three count, Silver King jumped over the rail and told the referee about the vile act of cheating he had seen. The referee believed the masked man (guess he can wear the mask if he’s not wrestling?) and overturned the decision. Silver King celebrated with the Gringos. The Oficials hit the ring, both sided argued, and Silver King fouled 911. Wagner vowed to bring Electroshock and Ultimo Gladiador to take on Los Mascaras next week, while the Officials demanded to face the Black Family (?!?!).

AAA has acknowledged this event, so it’s not as if Silver King was just off being goofy by himself.

(I guess they decided they did need rudos! I’d put in for Oficial/Terry/Cerebro tecnico teams, but they’d be teaming with rudos a week later.)

Previous to all of this, Oficials won the semimain in straight falls, yet La Ola Maldita still want a title match from Oficials. It does make a little sense because the falls were a DQ for excessive violence, and a DQ for 911 fouling Bombero and then throwing Bombero his mask to draw the foul call.

After their win in the tag match, Cerbero Negro & Black Terry made challenges for hair/mask and for the Americas title.

Nothing seems to last in IWRG more than a month, so I’m sure if much should be made of this AAA/IWRG feud. In interviews, IWRG management has always talked about preferring to get back to CMLL if they were partnered with either of the major two, saying the AAA style wouldn’t fit with the product they want to produce. Even if that’s true (and I’m not sure it is), it’s just a nice thing to tell magazines – it really shouldn’t be as much about what style you want to produce as what matches and people that’ll get people to actually pay for your product. AAA can always use two more dates to a week to rent out it’s talent, especially places with shorter drives.

This is going to get a lot of comparisons to the ex-AAA/CMLL feud, and it should. Someone saw the buzz of that story and wanted to replicated on it’s own. It does seem kind of reversed – instead of the smaller group launching attacks on the bigger group to make a point, AAA is invading IWRG because…they had nothing to better to do on Thursdays? (Maybe because it’s weird and a little cool? Because it is that too.)
