Valiente (probably) off King of Trios

Message from CHIKARA. I added the underlined emphasis.

Based on the fact that he isn’t returning calls or emails from us, it seems increasingly likely that Valiente of CMLL is not planning to board his international flight tonight to head to Philly. We had Valiente confirmed back in January, and the weekend of King of Trios was cleared by the CMLL office for him to attend. However, CMLL is advertising him for cards that would preclude him appearing with us this weekend. This exact same situation occurred back at the 2007 Aniversario weekend with Arkangel de la Muerte. We didn’t discover that he had changed his mind until we were waiting at the airport, and he didn’t show up. We are holding out hope that this is a miscommunication of some kind, and that Valiente will honor his commitments with us this weekend. In a related note, both Claudio Castagnoli and Ares are scheduled to land back in the US tomorrow afternoon, several hours before the tournament begins.

I was working under incorrect(/WRONG) assumptions until I read this, so I wanted to make sure this got out there.

There was a moment where I was going to actually try to make it out to these shows – it lasted five seconds before I realized I had zero free Saturdays in April – and I probably would’ve been pretty disappointed not to see Valiente. I probably would’ve also gotten over it because the rest of the tournament looks pretty good and it still will be a fun time.

Me encantaría escuchar la explicación de Valiente, si alguno de ustedes que hacen entrevistas en México puede ayudar. Yo estaría más que feliz de pagar el favor si es necesario.

Edit: CHIKARA has just announced Turbo is off the show as well and they’re cutting ties with Skayde.

AAA on Televisa #931 (03/27/2010)

Gimnasio Miguel Hidalgo de Poza Rica, 03/05/2010

this show killed my soul.

Fabi Apache & Mari Apache vs Christina Von Eerie & Sexy Star:weirdly laid out, lesser than similar matches. Christina was not bad, but it seemed like her first lucha match (because it probably was, I know.)

Joe Lider & Nicho el Millionario vs Jack Evans & Rocky Romero: the Hermandad match I don’t quite get into but other people like, so they’d probably like this.

La Parka Jr. vs Silver King: bad. LA Park vs La Parka Jr. is probably going to be worse, but maybe people caring might make it work. Might not. If they knew they were about to do Park/Parka, they really should’ve given Parka the win to end this. AAA stretches out feuds so long that people care less by the time they actually do the match, and are so intent on continuing to stretch it out for spots that they never get around to doing a finish to the feud on TV.

Cibernético & Extreme Tiger vs Alex Koslov & Zorro: Cibernetico having no time for Alex was funny.

El Mesías, Marco Corleone, Octagón vs Dr. Wagner Jr., Electroshock, Último Gladiador: the normal main event. The last bit before Rey de Reyes is about Wagner & Electro, which makes sense from live events but not really as a TV bit.

2010 AAA TV Chart

Projected Air Date (#938, #939)
Mexico: 05/16?, 05/23?
US: 05/29?, 06/05?

Update 04/25: Shuffled lineup due to Mesias’ surgery, and Daniels being added to the show.

Update: AAA’s version of the show includes a previously unlisted opener. First half of the show should be good.

Original Post:

I asked this out below in the Lucha Times post and I’ll try it here too – did anyone watch last week’s AAA from Mexico? None of the usual YouTubers have it up, and I’m wondering how they handled the first five match show for their two tapings bit. There’s only so much time they can kill having Alex and Arturo talk on a studio set, even in AAA, and I’m wondering if they changed plans again. Otherwise, this isn’t going to air for a great while.

LA Park returns to AAA rings after a 13.5 year absence. I had figured they’d hold off on the first match between the two until TripleMania, especially given the likely quality of a match between the two and their desire to hold of doing the big mask match for as long as possible. Guess not. Dorian hyped up a special surprise on the last taping for this show, which would be the mystery spot here. Not sure if that is meant to be Vampiro or someone else entirely.

I had to look this up because I wasn’t sure if I was losing my mind, and maybe you had the same thought:

  • 03/12 – Mesias hurts his shoulder at Rey de Reyes (has excuse for loss)
  • 03/19 and 04/06 – rudos continue to go after shoulder
  • 04/07 AAA.com: Mesias to undergo procedure for shoulder tomorrow
  • 04/17 – Mesias shoulder still hurting as much as ever. This time, Zorro & Vamp given credit for hurting it.
  • 04/20 Dos De Tres: Mesias underwent shoulder surgery, probably but not definite for TripleMania.
  • 04/30 – Mesias, back in action, likely with shoulder taped

Is this the type of shoulder surgery where you’re wrestling 10 days later, but not sure for six weeks after? Whatever. Why do injury angles when you’re just going to ignore them the next week on TV? (See also: LA Park’s martinete on La Parka.)

Flipping Wagner to green was relatively easy. That’s quite a tecnico trio.

Clowns live! And may be tecnicos at this point, not sure.

Jack Evans was scheduled to work for Evolve on 05/01 – announced weeks ago – then was pulled off the show about an hour before this lineup got to the internet. Outsiders booking AAA or CMLL lucha guys is fruitless since they have no apparent power over their schedule and any promises can be unpromised at the last moment; you have to do it thru the promotions, and that seems impossible for most anyone north of the border to do.

I like Relampago’s new lightning mask.

Checking up on The Guys AAA Will Be Building Around:

  • Marco Corleone – left promotion
  • Laredo Kid – not on the card
  • Jack Evans – used in a completely meaningless way in the second match
  • Zorro – in the main event! Least important person in the main event, but still miles ahead of the rest of these guys.

Bracio de Oro vs Mini Black Warrior, Dorada, ex-AAAers

(Record, Notimex) Bracito de Oro and Mini Black Warrior signed the contract for their mask match yesterday. Bracito explained he was tired of Mini Warrior cheating to win, and he has his own surprise planned (I hope it’s a plan to stop the cheating.) Mini Warrior believes his greco roman wrestling skills will take him to victory. Bracito notes the 04/30 card isn’t announced, so maybe they can be the main event. (Nope.)

Any other day, Mini Warrior would be an overwhelming favorite. On Kid’s Day? Not so much.

Fuego en el Ring notes Mascarita Dorada working the undercard of an AAA show. He’s in a mask match against other non-AAA minis, so he’s probably just brought in separate.

Latin Lover, Psicosis, Tirantes, Cuije, and Histeria attended a second arbitration meeting between the ex-AAAers and AAA over the rights to their name. They’re still talking, and have one more meeting on 05/12 before this actually goes to trial.

TripleMania tickets went on sale Wednesday. The blurb on the website says Electro/Wagner and Parka/Park, which is what we’d expect based on TV. Still haven’t heard anything about a new contract for Wagner, but they haven’t set up a different title contender. Tickets are going from 1546 Mexican pesos ($126 US) down to 183 pesos ($15).

Mistico (and Salvador Lutteroth) opened a community center. I guess rudos aren’t allowed to cut ribbons.

Estrellas del Ring has Red Master losing his mask in Arena Aficion, and Chavo Infernal losing his mask in Veracruz.

R de Rudo has a bio of a IWRG wrestler Heros, who does spell it with an H.

Cronicas Y Leyendas complains that the kids don’t know the holds nowadays.

Has CHIKARA said anything about Valiente’s status for tomorrow?

Lineups

CMLL (TUE) 04/27 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Johnny Dinamo vs Quca
2) Nube Roja & Virgo vs Infierno & Malefico
3) Neutrón & Palacio Negro vs Asesino Negro & Máscara Mágica
4) Ebola vs Exterminador [hair]
5) Brazo de Plata, Héctor Garza, La Máscara vs Averno, Mephisto, Texano

This seems quick, but Ebola & Exterminador have been not getting along since mid March. Wonder if Asesino Negro will get involved in the main event.
