Ex-AAA wrestlers invade Puebla, Monterrey, full AAA video game roster?

CMLL (MON) 04/12 Arena Puebla [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Centauro de Fuego, Fuerza Chicana, Toro Bill Sr. b Asturiano, Black Tiger, Crazy Black
2) Ángel Azteca Jr., Ángel de Oro, Ángel de Plata b Hooligan, Loco Max, Skándalo
3) Shigeo Okumura, Taichi, Virus b Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara, La Sombra
4) Brazo de Plata, Místico, Strong Man b Averno, Terrible, Texano
5) Máscara Dorada b Dragon Rojo Jr. [CMLL SL]

(colosseti @ SML, el vagabundo @ box y lucha) The big news wasn’t the title match, but the run-ins after the third match. Ex-AAA wrestlers (and occasional Perros del Mal wrestlers) Psicosis, Histeria, Maniaco, Alebrije and Cuije attacked Sombra, Fantasma and Mascara after the terecera, Cuije even taking out Monito! Mistico, Porky and Strong Man ran out for the save, but were attacked by Averno, Terrible & Texano, out for the next match. The ex-AAAs had arrived in a black SUV, and jumped back in to escape before anyone else caught up with them. I wonder if Hijo de LA Park was the getaway driver this time too?

It’ll be interesting to see where this goes from here. I’m betting multiman cage match in Puebla, because that seems to be the idea CMLL is stuck on this month. Running the angle in Puebla probably means it’s a Puebla-only angle. The Perros often talk about how everyone in their company is free to work wherever they want, so they should be fine with this (and probably happy for the extra attention.) The other way is interesting; might there be some thawing between CMLL and the Perros? It’s not the guys wearing the Perros shirts, which would mean a whole lot more, but CMLL could’ve still put the veto down if they wanted nothing to do with this group.

Dorada beat Dragon clean to retain the title. Semimain ended with Mistico & Averno in the ring, and now it’s only laziness stopping me from flipping him back green. I can not believe they’re hitting the reset button, but maybe they’ll hit it so hard that we can get the Black Warrior feud again. Taichi fouled Fantasma for a two fall loss; Fantasma already hurting played into the attack.

AAA (SUN) 04/11 Arena Coliseo Monterrey [RFC]
1) Darling BoyPedro NavajasBabe Fox
2) Angel Dorado Jr., Babe Rap, SkyAndroide, Lover Boy, Rey Sagitario
3) Cuervo, Escoria, Ozz DQ Golden Boy, Rey Demonio Jr., Simbolo
4) Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown Rió Bravo, Tigre Cota, Tito Santana
5) Extreme Tiger, Jack Evans, La Parka Jr.Chessman, Joe Lider, Sobredosis

After the tecnicos won clean, Parka challenged Chessman to a mask vs hair match. I guess it never hurts to ask.

Psycho Clowns won in straight falls. No word on the DQ in the tercera, just that the losers wanted a super libre rematch.

Wolfgamers, a site I’ve never heard of previously and appears to be very new, has a list of the complete AAA Video Game roster. The numbers don’t add up with what’s been said elsewhere (41 instead of 31) so I have questions about this accuracy here, but it’s close enough to give us something to talk about. Almost everyone who you think should be in makes it in – Latin, Aerostar, Laredo and Escoria are the biggest misses, and I still think I saw Escoria in the latest trailer. Otherwise, everyone most everyone I thought should be in but hadn’t turned up (Hermandad!), and some people I wasn’t expecting did as well: both Stones, May & Pimpi, Gronda & Groon (even though he wasn’t supposedly in the company when they froze the roster) and even four mini tecnicos. Which actually makes the lack of mini rudos another miss.

Fray Tormenta won his match.

Ultimo Dragon is back in Mexico, teaming with guys he doens’t know, facing guys he can’t remember, wrestling in front of sub 100 people crowds. I imagine this is not unusual for indy stars.

Estrellas del Ring talks with the original AAA Payasos, who want to return to the ring this year. NO.

Cronicas Y Leyendas flips the script profile a luchador-in-training, Comando.

Arena Mexico is hosting a MMA event on 05/22.

Luchas 2000 #516 has Silver King turning on Wagner, and a healthier appearing Pierroth

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

  1. @LLL: I’m too lazy to dig up the old comments b/c I don’t which post they are in but this is the part where I would happily mock you and anyone else peeing your pants about AAA’s skyrocketing ratings due to production changes.

The only thing these ratings have proved to me is that Lucha Libre ratings, especially AAA, are completely 100%… *drumroll*… RANDOM AS FUCK.

CMLL stays the same for the most part.
RAW stays the same for the most part.
    AAA… *always changes*

The funny thing about these ratings in particular is last week all the “unimportant” matches from DF aired so you would think this week’s rating would skyrocket with the “stars” in every match. OOPS.

These ratings mean nothing but numbers are pretty, huh?

Moving onto things that actually matter…

I think that Puebla angle is brilliant and hopefully it leads somewhere interesting. I’m already intrigued as to whether it’s localized or should we expect something tonight @ Arena Mex. So many interesting possibilites if booked right. Also the fact they brought the good to very good workers instead of stiffs. And of course the fact Maniaco wore is awesome old outfit and Cuije vs Monito. CUIJE VS MONITO! MAKE IT HAPPEN!

I’m still baffled on why you seem so negative on Mistico being a tecnico again. He was never going to be a 100% rudo. The rudos never adopted him (outside of the tease w/ Averno) and he always said he just disliked Volador. There’s no reset of anything.

  2. @Rob: in no other promotion in the world would “okay, I feel like being a good guy again” – and absolutely nothing more! – would be an actual turn. The Volador/Mistico stuff was the most interesting twists they’ve done on top in a long time, and now they’re just dismissing it all.

I’m sure Volador will eventually turn (probably on Sombra to explain why he doesn’t turn – probably before they drop the tag team titles knowing this group!) to make sense of it all, and maybe that’ll create a new interesting dynamic. But right now, here in this moment, we’ve got Mistico giving Averno La Mistica, and I’ve seen five years of that. They need to move forward, and this is just a retreat.

They should’ve followed up on the tease with Averno, there were a million possibilities with that. And Mistico wasn’t just against Volador -he was ripping up Dorada’s mask in the national PI final, he was annoying Porky & Garza by winning with fouls while teaming with him, he was hitting Panther by accident and walking out instead of breaking up the pin.

But even if it was just Volador/Mistico, because most of that wasn’t on the Friday shows, where has that gotten us? Volador got the title win, they hyped the mask match and…it’s just ignored to get Mistico back on the tecnico side. Like I said, maybe they’ll switch Volador over and make this work, but it’s not in a working position right now, and I don’t have total faith it will end up that way.

  3. I wonder what AAA’s reaction is to this whole Puebla thing? Especially if they continue it to Arena Mexico. I like it.

Cubs you forgot the best thing about the Clowns match, They now have a Valet. The same girl that was with Konnan a couple weeks ago. Oh and apparently Mesias will be at the ACM show on Sunday. I thought he was injured?

  4. @Rob: I never said ratings were skyrocketing, but did point out that AAA took the lead against CMLL, and was steady in the high 5’s low 6’s.

I always complain that the crane cam is dizzying, and that the hard cams are too far and low. The improvements that I pointed out were the new par cans aimed at the ring, and giving matches 1 or 2 segments, instead of three, like CMLL does.

  5. @thecubsfan: For the most part Cubs, I agree with you. There has been nothing done to settle the Volador-Mistico issue, so it makes no sense to just drop it 100%. With that said, Rob is right, they haven’t really done anything to undo what has happened – they are just kinda ignoring it.

My guess is somebody somewhere (be it Mistico, Averno, CMLL higher-ups) is pulling a powerplay, and the angle has stalled. There is big time money in a few matches with Mistico as a rudo. Atlantis vs Mistico at Anniversario for masks would be huge – but only if Atlantis switches back to tecnico and Mistico is rudo. Maybe Mistico (or someone) feels that he will not be a longterm draw as a rudo? Maybe this is just the calm before the storm, as Mistico quietly slides over to Tecnico again, only to fuck over someone like Sombra or Dorada and end up with Averno in the end.

But just dropping the whole damn thing would be dumb.

  6. “I wonder if Hijo de LA Park was the getaway driver this time too?”

Maybe Niebla? The angle times out pretty well for his return and he could be looking for revenge on Monito for returning to the tecnico side while he was gone. And we’ve got some of his old Viper running buddies involved here.
