SuperLuchas has the list and confirms the format: 2 weeks of four eight teams, with the winners squaring off in a final. This will allow longer matches without bloated shows, a good compromise. Sixteen guys is way too many, and these shows are going to be overloaded. Oh well.

Cometa, Polvora, and Camorra are carry overs from last year, so the informal two year old rule about no repeats is over. None made the second round – maybe we can pretend that’s the new rule? Whatever.
Anyone who’s been around for five years doesn’t quite seem like a rookie. Cancerbero & Polvora are sneaking in because they’ve been given a new character (in Cancerbero’s case, we’re still not supposed to he was someone else.) Sensei is here because…they were feeling generous? I have no idea. Edit: He’s here because they needed 16 and he probably got the call before Super Camaleon.
I was really expecting Taichi to be including. Last year’s Okumura win was a lemon, they really ought to have tried to make some lemonade out of it by teasing the same thing only for the Japanese to be thwarted early on. Or maybe Semental could’ve just taken him out and taken the spot this time around.

Favorites (FOR THIS BLOCK) are Diamante, Rey Cometa, and Polvora. CMLL’s been clearly high on Diamante since he’s come in, though he’s been spotty and not ready for this spot. Rey Cometa is more ready, but it’s already tough to distinguish all the high flyers for the casual fans having either of these two just adds another name to the muddle. Polvora’s been on an upward trajectory since winning last year’s bodybuilding contest and this would continue that trend.
Some people will pick Disturbio because his family connections (unclear relationship to Panico and family), but he’s not yet made it out of the openers and seems a major long shot. Camorra & Sensei are here to make up the numbers. Inquisador is as well, though it did seem like they had plans for him early last year before scaling back. Cancerbero may be here for story reasons; perhaps a tecnico will have to go thru two of Virus’ teams to win it all?
We’ll know more when the vets and parings are announced. Edit: and, you know, the other 8 participants.
