AAA on Televisa #927 (02/27/2010)

Gimnasio Ignacio Manuel AltaMirano de la BUAP, Puebla, 02/05/2010

Mascarita Sagrada, Mini Charly Manson, Octagoncito vs Mini Abismo Negro, Mini Histeria, Mini Psicosis – this was not one of the better minis matches. They really tried to pack a lot in 7 minutes, but not a lot of it was good.

Atomic Boy, Lasser Boy, Zumbi vs Angel Mortal, Gran Apache, Mantra – well, no, not really, they couldn’t be bothered. It’s not so present here (because they only showed 15 seconds of it) seems a lot like when they brought back the Espectro de Ultratumba gimmick, made a big deal of picking exactly

If you ranked the Mysterious AAA Luchadors Who Are (almost) Never On AAA TV But May Be Secretly Awesome

1) Jesse
2) ZUMBI
3) Nemesis
6) Whoever’s the Chiva Rayada at spot shows now
4) Alebrije II
5) Argenis
LAST) Mantra

Atomic Boy would be #1 is technically on TV too often to count (by the rules I just made up), though it really could’ve been me in the suit this time and next for all the different it would’ve made. He’s been edited like crazy.

Amnesia, Black Abyss, Histeria, Psicosis vs Cuervo, Escoria, Espíritu, Ozz – we probably could save some time be adding the Vipers to that list. This was as complete a burial as you will ever see. The Vipers 2.0 were crushed for 5 minutes, didn’t really even get token offense, and then were pinned clean. This whole match astounded me when I saw it.

It seems like the same thing as Lasser Boy. They picked the guys to play these characters, they actually had plans for the characters, and then belatedly realized that they didn’t much like the guys after all. The blame is probably going on the Vipers for not being at the level they were expected to be, but it probably should really be on whoever is deciding on which people play which characters. We’ve all complained/mocked AAA’s talk about making bigger stars of existing wrestlers (“this is the year we’re going to push Laredo Kid!”), but they’re many times worse when it comes to completely new characters. Whether it’s a foreign person being brought in, or a new guy under an old gimmick, they’re never given any sort of introduction and often turn out not to be what AAA wanted to be.

Other points to make
– couldn’t they have just given Poder el Norte the gimmicks and saved us all some time?
– there’s circumstantial evidence to suggest this is the start of a Dark Family push (as sort of a replacement for the Vipers), but the last two years suggest not to believe this

Alan Stone, El Elegido, Pimpinela Escarlata vs Alex Koslov, Chessman, Zorro – Welcome back to TV, Alan! In this match, you’re a guy who’s not at the level of the Legion. Neither is Elegido, and Pimpi’s the only guy keeping your team in the match. (I look forward to seeing the big RFSMania main event of Alan & Chris vs Ogun & Groon!)

El Mesías, La Parka Jr., Latin Lover vs Dr. Wagner Jr., Electroshock, Silver King (and part 2) – Do you think Silver King ever looked to his side to see Electroshock on the road to the AAA championship, then looked across the ring to see he was feuding with La Parka Jr., and just hated his life immensely? I’m not worried about Dr. Wagner Jr., because I’m sure he believes he’s Global World Champion at all times, but not so much Silver King.
