Dos Leyendas/AAA in DF live coverage

Felino unmasked

The chat is over.. My guess is I’ll be up to 1am CST at least to cover it, though I don’t expect anyone else will. I’ll remove the link after the chat goes down.

Today’s cards

CMLL

Completed

1) Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca b Ángel de Oro, Fuego, Stuka Jr.
2) Mephisto, Terrible, Texano Jr. b Hijo del Fantasma, Máscara Dorada, Valiente
Crowd is LOUDLY pro-rudo
Villanos appeared to honor Ray Mendoza

3)Blue Panther, Brazo de Plata, La Máscara DQ Negro Casas Okumura, Ray Mendoza Jr., Taichi
– no Negro Casas. Okumura replaced him. Straight fall win for the tecnicos. DQ for Taichi pulling Mascara’s mask.

4) Héctor Garza, Máximo, Mr. Niebla Negro Casas b Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero
Negro Casas is here! For Mr. Niebla, who is who knows where. Maximo wins by beating Rey.

5) Volador Jr. & Místico b Felino & La Sombra (Sombra pinned by Misitco, Felino pinned by Volador)
6) Sombra b Felino via casita [mask]

Felino is Jorge Luis Casas Ruiz, 45 (46 on Monday.)

AAA

Completed

Before the first match, the Legion hit the ring. Bits included

  • the comedian from the press conference getting involved
  • Hermandad and NOAH guys having issues
  • Dorian and Konnan including their newest recruit Heavy Metal. Metal isn’t sure he wants to join, and has some issue with Zorro, so he’s got till the end of the night to decide.

3) Extreme Tiger, Jack Evans, Rocky Romero b Rió Bravo, Tigre Cota, Tito Santana – out of order! I dunno. Rocky beat Cota

1) Cinthia Moreno & Fabi Apache DQ Rain & Sexy Star – After Tirantes helped the rudas all match, Piero ran out to DQ them.

In Ring Bit: WagnerManiacos (Silver, Wagner, Electro – no UG or Pimpi) hit the ring. Wagner congratulates Electro on his win, asks for first shot. Electro says no and quits. They fight.

2) Cuervo, Escoria, Escoria b Aerostar, Laredo Kid, Súper Fly – Super Fly hit Aerostar early (by accident?) to give the Sect the edge. Super Fly wiped himself out on a dive late, needing medical attention. Cuervo got the pin on Laredo, maybe because they were being distracted by Super Fly being carted off.

Alex Koslov lost to clown Yurem. AAA got rid of goofballs for about a day. There was a foul and Pimpinela involved.

4) Taiji Ishimori & Takeshi Morishima b Joe Lider & Nicho el Millionario [AAA TAG] – NOAH guys are now considered part of the Legion, so now the Legion has these titles. Clean win. Konnan appears to explain this is payback for working for Roldan & AAA (by teaming with Pimpi.)

5) Cibernético, Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown b Alex Koslov, Hernandez, Kenzo Suzuki, Zorro
Konnan, with a Psycho Clown mask on, attacked referee Pepe Casas. Just as his brother is losing his mask across town, Heavy Metal appears, attacking Kenzo to help the Clowns win. He’s anti-Legion.

6) El Mesías, La Parka Jr., Octagón b Dr. Wagner Jr., Pimpinela Escarlata, Silver King
As expected, Pimpi is the new WagnerManiaco. Neither the rudos nor Parka like this idea. (Octagon could care less, I guess.)
Mesias pins Silver King. Post match, Sabu runs in and helps the Legion beat down the tecnicos, while LA Park jumps La Parka Jr.

Things we’re watching

CMLL

  • @reformacancha on twitter is reporting on the show live, and updating every few minutes. It is great. I’m under the impression Reforma has good lucha coverage, but it’s behind a paywall (and I’m not sure I could even pay for it if I wanted, being out of the country and all.)
  • EstadioW will have radio coverage at some point.

AAA

  1. If Felino is supposed to lose his mask today, it is strange that Heavy Metal steals some press coverage by jumping to AAA on the same day and making own big news.

  2. Well Dos De Tres has video of HM at the AAA show. Talked about being paid large sums of cash and that he was staying with AAA but not joining the Legion.

I also so the video of Koslov vs Yurem and maybe its the bad angle but Yurem sorta looks like Laser Boy without the mask. At least the posture and size, maybe even his hair minus the gel.

  3. Wow!!

According to DdT LA Park comes out to beat the shit out of La Parka. Sabu also made an appearance I guess to help promote the show on Saturday between he and LA Park. But no mention of LA Park and Sabu mixing it up.

  4. So the point of AAA’s main event was to hype the XLAW show tomorrow with Sabu vs La Parka.

Nobody can ever say Ernesto O’Campo isn’t a smart guy after tonight. AAA just made themselves look like the #3 company in Mexico after CMLL and XLAW!

Well they mention Sabu as just being there. The main focus (video is apparently coming in) was to continue the Parka vs LA Park story. Nobody helped Parka BTW, just a straight beat down.

  6. This show was good, but probably my least favorite of the three Dos Leyendas. Too bad since Felino’s mask loss should have felt like a bigger deal. It was a very good crowd, but not quite a sellout. From what I could see, I would say that it was probably 85-95% full with some open seats on the lower level and each of the levels above it. As would be expected, the crowd was very into the main event, and pretty hot for some of the other matches, but not there were some lulls in the show. A few match by match notes below.

    1) Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca b Ángel de Oro, Fuego, Stuka Jr.-Fun match as would be expected from this crew. Poder falls over during their pyramid finisher a the end of the first fall. Crowd is heavily rudo here.
    2) Mephisto, Terrible, Texano Jr. b Hijo del Fantasma, Máscara Dorada, Valiente-My wife’s commentary on this match: “Those outfits are so bad they make Terrible look dorky.” Not an easy task. Mephisto gets the award for best mask of the night though with a combination Mephisto/Averno/Mistico mask. Maybe we could get some sort of Casas vs HdA/Mistico feud going to tide us over before they start the big build toward the Anniversary show? One other outfit note, with la Nazi wearing a skirt to the ring. Not sure if this is a good thing, but kind of noteworthy. Fun match with Dorada walking the ropes into a moonsault from the middle of the ropes. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him break that out before.
3)Blue Panther, Brazo de Plata, La Máscara DQ Negro Casas Okumura, Ray Mendoza Jr., Taichi-They honor Ray Mendoza by having his son lose in straight falls? It was pretty clear something was up when Casas was in this match. Nothing really to say about this.
    4) Héctor Garza, Máximo, Mr. Niebla Negro Casas b Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero-Not a good sign for Niebla. Negro does a good Mr. Niebla impression and played the part well, but CMLL has to be pissed to have to use him here. Garza gets serious heat for refusing Maximo’s advances and not getting along with Negro. I’m pretty sure that Arena Mexico is the only place in Mexico where you get called an asshole for being homophobic, but that’s where Garza wound up in this match. But, even after that he refused to shake Rey’s hand at the end of the match.
    5) Volador Jr. & Místico b Felino & La Sombra (Sombra pinned by Misitco, Felino pinned by Volador)
    6) Sombra b Felino via casita [mask]-In a good sign that what CMLL is doing is working, Volador got a much better reaction than he would have gotten a couple of months ago when he came out for the match. Nice dive off the stage to get things started. Opening tag match was fun until Sombra was eliminated. The Mistico/Felino stuff after that felt too obvious, and Mistico should have just walked out at immediately if that was where they were going with it. That being said, Mistico managed to be booed by both the tecnico and rudo fans as he left which I suppose is an accomplishment. The singles match was fine, but felt like it could have used a little more time. My expectations were probably too high for this match. It was certainly a fine match, but I expected more out of these guys for a high profile match.

I also thought they could have made Felino’s loss feel bigger after the match. Negro doesn’t come out? AAA did a better job making it feel like a big deal by beating down his father and bringing in Heavy Metal. I was also a little surprised that he didn’t shake Sombra’s hand postmatch.

OK, it probably sounds like I didn’t actually like the show, which isn’t true at all. I just expected a bit more.

  7. Hallelujah! La Hermandad are no longer AAA tag team champions. This is many of the reasons why I watch AAA periodically. AAA should focus more on or fix their product instead if complaining about other promotions copying them. Too bad for Felino, but he’ll be fine.

  8. both Felino and Blue Panther both lost their masks around their respective birthdays. just a thought.
