2010 AAA TV Chart
Projected Air Date (#932)
Mexico: 04/04
US: 04/17

It looks like they’ve got out of their Panama commitments (or those are all being pushed back to May, and that’s what the Dos de Tres article was about.) Mesias in the main event instead of Elegido makes it a bit more vital, though it’s odd the new champion is still not on this card. They’ve also checked Chessman’s itinerary and figured out he’s probably on a plane at this point.

The lineup lists “Nuevo WagnerManiaco”. I don’t know if that means it’ll be someone besides Pimpi or not.

Hernandez continues on as a part of the Legion, so maybe they do have a plan. You never know.

They’ve also dropped the Copa 187 for the moment, whatever it was going to be. I guess it doesn’t make sense to determine La Hermandad’s next challengers when they’re not guaranteed to be champions after this night. Poder el Norte and Air Force have been shuffled into other matches, which his also sort of shuffled the previously scheduled opener (Guapos and Lasser Boy) completely off the card.

Still, 2/3 look good and 1/4 have some hope.

Those dates are more iffy than usual, because we don’t have the full Rey de Reyes lineup (tickets go on sale tomorrow) but working on the assumption that it’s a two TV taping show.

Without a major angle, this does not seem like a particularly strong draw against Dos Leyendas. If you’re really into AAA and live in Mexico City, you’re probably going to be happy with this as a TV taping. If you’re a just a general lucha libre fan and want to go to the biggest show on Friday, March 19th, you’re probably heading to Arena Mexico. We don’t actually know for sure what CMLL is going to do, but any of the ideas suggested beat another Cibernetico/Psycho Circus team up.

The mystery spot in the main event would normally be Konnan or Nicho (or maybe even Zorro). Perhaps someone new one will emerge to get involved in the lumberjack match. (Wait…we’ve got a lumberjack match between two largely immobile guys, we’ve got the Rey del Ring tournament, that’s a bit ominous. let’s all hope Rey de Reyes doesn’t continue playing out like the 1994 King of the Ring. Mabel IS available.)

Mystery spot in the semimain would probably be a new WagnerManiaco. Pimpi? Wagner III? Warrior?

Look! Alan Stone! He better watch out for the loaded glove.

Cinthia getting a title shot here means they’re not doing a title defense at Rey de Reyes. Or maybe they’re just not doing THAT title defense – either a mixed tag with a lot of team, or a relevos atomicos with a bunch of people makes sense.

No idea what Copa 187 is, beside the obvious connection to La Hermandad.

  1. Not sure what the purpose is of running against CMLL with a rare DF show if you aren’t going to load up the card.

Seems like a weak taping even by AAA standards.

  2. @Rob: Particularly on that night. Running this against a normal weekly show would be one thing, but against their second biggest show of the year? This is weaker than CMLL’s opposition to Triplemania last year.

  3. Hernandez in the main and Warrior teaming with Wagner in the semi-main makes sense.

Warrior debuting in the main and Wagner3 in the semi makes sense too…

  4. Juan de la Barrera will hold less than 4,000 with production cuts for the stage. I guess AAA will try to sell the ?’s as being so big, you have to be there to see them, or reveal them in advance to help attendance.

AAA might have taken the date and totally forgot about 2leyendas. I do believe AAA would like to have some Friday Night Wars, hoping it would increase interest the way the Monday Night Wars does in America. Only difference is they are fighting over ticket sales, not ratings.

  5. @LLL: Which is a big difference since the Monday night wars resulted in more total viewers flipping between the two channels. Its harder to sell tickets to both shows.

  6. @Alan: Not really. History shows that when wrestling groups compete head-on for ticket sales, ticket sales increase.

Examples are WWF vs. NWA in Philadelphia and Baltimore, or WWF vs. NWA vs. World Class in Dallas. It always resulted in more total ticket buyers when they competed. AAA should occasionally go against CMLL on a Friday.

If AAA does a sellout, they’ll announce it as 6,000 anyway.

  7. @LLL: I agree with the premise that competition generally causes both sides to put up the best cards they can, pull out bigger surprises thus driving up ratings and ticket sales. CMLL seems to be moving in that direction with Dos Leyendas, but AAA put up a rather plain looking card if their goal is to compete with it. They might be trying to do the smaller venue/higher end approach that they attempted with some of the LLP cards in Mexico City last year, and I find that interesting, but the timing doesn’t seem right for that here.

I do think that running more often in Mexico City (Friday night or not) is a good idea. It seems like they should bring a taping through here every couple of months at a minimum.

  8. A few weeks ago the WON reported that Teddy Hart was suspended, and that AAA probably wasn’t going to use him anymore after the suspension ended.

  9. 3/12 Smackdown 9.4
    3/13 CMLL 3.3
    Pacquaio fight 21.9
    3/14 AAA 6.1
    3/15 RAW 9.8

    Last week:

    3/5 Smackdown 10.2
    3/6 CMLL 3.1
    3/7 AAA 5.8
    3/8 RAW 9.0

Looks like AAA’s ratings have stabilized in the 6.0 range, since getting the 4-6p slot.

  10. the new wagnermaniaco is Corleone. I saw a card in tijuana for next month where he is teaming with wagner and silver king????? coincidence?? And marco isn’t booked for the show where the mystery man will appear???
