ratings, Taichi, Dorada

Not much going on this morning. So, a chart: Mexico ratings since we’ve been tracking them:

Ratings Chart (thru 02/18)

Fuego en el Ring talks to Taichi about coming to Mexico. He wants to win a title and a mask while he’s here. Good luck at that. In another interview, Sangre Azteca complains about not getting a rematch for the welterweight title or any other title.

Cesar says Mascara Dorada flashy dive is now called El Destello Dorada.

LuchandoLibre has a video interview with the wrestler claiming to be the first Parkita. He’s probably right, too.

Box Y Lucha has Villano III talking about being forced to wrestle at gunpoint, Monsther introducing his new partner Frankenstein,

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Ras de Lona #85 is up.

Lineups

indy (SUN) 02/21 Arena Coliseo Monterrey
1) Black Poison & Diamante Negro vs Halcón Peregrino & Super Cometa
2) Dranser & Scravos vs Gemelo Muerte I & Gemelo Muerte II
3) Principe de Oro & Virtual X vs Black Soul & Titanik
4) Misterioso Jr. (Satillo), Pancho Tequila, Rey Hechicero vs Neurosis, Raiden, Sergio Romo Jr.
5) Gato Fantasma & Hijo del Ninja vs Furor & Galactar

So they are running on Sundays? Guess so.

CMLL (MON) 02/22 Arena Puebla
1) King Jaguar & SWAT vs Ares & Toro Bill Sr.
2) Astral, Bam Bam, Eléctrico vs Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño Warrior
3) Ángel de Oro, Ángel de Plata, Rush vs Euforia, Pólvora, Virus
4) Brazo de Plata, La Máscara, Máscara Dorada vs Averno, Terrible, Texano Jr.
5) Shocker, Strong Man, Volador Jr. vs Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero

Bam Bam and Violencia were involved in the finish last week and are back here, so perhaps they’re setting up a title defense.

02/20-21 Lucha Times

box

AAA-US: Morishima/Mesias, WagnerManiacos vs Legion. Listed as 2h30m show this week.

52MX: They have to be switching the matches around this week. At least I’m refusing to believe otherwise. That means women and title match here.

IWRG-TF: who knows. I’ve got the 2/3 from the week after they aired this week, but there’s no pattern here.

—-

CMLL: top 3, so another Felino/Sombra match in addition to the main event parajes incriedble

AAA-MEX: Wagner/Electro vs Mesias/Marco, and more CiberClowns vs Legion.

FOX-CMLL: Poder Mexica vs Dorada/Metro/Sagrado, and Triad vs Panther/Toscano/Strongman. Listed at 5pm this week, so if you’re the one person in Mexico who has TeleFormula, Fox Sports, and 52MX, you’ve got three one hour shows running against each other.

C3: top 4, including the sudden Shocker/Bucanero feud.

Monterrey: Couple matches from Tuesday, because it doesn’t look like they had a show on Sunday.

Puebla: probably the full show, though it’s tough to tell becuase TVC Deportes doesn’t have a schedule up for Monday

PdM: All that’s left to air from 01/31 is the Super Crazy/Super Nova trios and the main event. I guess we find out if there’s actually if issues if it airs (and/or if Santo works there again.)

CMLL-TFN: More Super Sky Team.

2009 Tapatia Discussion: Rudo, Mini

After Monday’s comments, and my notes from previous years, here’s the plan:

For the next five days, I’m going to have a discussion post for a couple (or a three) awards. The idea is for everyone to talk about people who are worth consideration for votes, with hopefully a little a bit why. They’re not strictly nomination posts; I’m really hoping for more than just names, and everyone will still be allowed to vote for whoever they’d like.

The idea is to discuss the candidates. A list of names isn’t as interesting as a discussion of a list names, and I’d rather it be interesting if I’m going to deal with it. Since I want it to be a discussion, and not just a reaction to my comments, I’m going to keep my picks out of these posts but may eventually chime in on the comments.

Voting – WHICH IS NOT OPEN YET – will be from Feb 22 to March 8.

Today’s categories are Best Rudo and Best Mini.

AAA on Televisa #924 (02/06/2010)

taped Plaza de Toros Chilpancingo, 12/18/2009

(and, for the record: 01/23 and 01/30 filler recaps)

megaupload: http://www.megavideo.com/?d=4OHZQGOD

Rió Bravo, Tigre Cota, Tito Santana vs Argenis, Atomic Boy, Relampago – they clipped this up, but I guess I should be thrilled I got any Atomic Boy at all. Relampago or Argenis? I think I’m saying Relampago.

Amnesia, Black Abyss, Histeria III, Psicosis III vs Aerostar, Laredo Kid, Pimpinela Escarlata, Súper Fly – the booking of the Vipers as new act is as weird on TV as it seemed on the written results. This was basically a showcase match for the tecnicos, then the Vipers pulled out a win, then they immediately got cleared out by the Psycho Circus. Ultimately, this is probably the role Vipers 2.0 is going to settle at, but usually new groups get treated as a bigger deal on their debut and settle downward into their spot. Instead, these guys are directly in their final spot.

Expect four weekly mentions of how big Histeria from now until I get used to it (infinity.) Doesn’t really bug me as much with Psicosis though they’re not that different.

Extreme Tiger & Jack Evans vs Joe Lider & Nicho el Millionario – my problems with the Hermandad, in number bullet points!

1) double team moves are nice, but if you never ever win with double team moves, and you only do those double team moves during the portion of the match where you’re not even trying to win, why should I care about your double team moves?

2) Tirantes referees every La Hermanad match, which means there’s absolutely no point to anything that happens until the last minute of the match, where you find out of Hijo del Tirantes screws the tecnicos (who are always too dumb to figure this out), or another ref gets involved. At the same time, Tirantes never just helps the rudos from the get go, so they could win the match quicker and painlessly, he just waits 10 minutes for no particular reason. Everyone looks like an idiot and I like these people too much to think of them as idiots.

3) none of the finishes matter. If the Hermandad lose, they’ll never face that team, much less put up their tag team titles. If the Hermandad win, they’ll continue to face the same team anyway, and probably will end up defending the title against that team.

The match isn’t interesting, the match doesn’t matter, the outcome doesn’t matter, why should I care about their matches?

Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown vs Chessman, Teddy Hart, Zorro – another Hijo de Tirantes match! It was OK.

Dr. Wagner Jr., Electroshock, Silver King vs Crazy Boy, El Mesías, La Parka Jr. – WagnerManiaocs actually working rudo, how odd. The whole Pimpi interference spot was oddly timed, and of course doesn’t make sense where thing are going on. Things change!

Guadalajara, Bucanero/Shocker, AAA in DF, Misitco

CMLL (TUE) 02/16 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Acertijo b Relampago
2) Ángel del Mal & Exterminador b Astaroth & Idolo
3) Asesino Negro & Mr. Trueno b Hierro & Neutrón
4) Gallo, Metro, Rouge b Dragon Rojo Jr., Máscara Mágica, Sangre Azteca
5) Máximo & Mr. Niebla b Naito & Taichi

Recap says Maximo & Niebla joined forces, bodies, and lips to win their match. That’s definitely a Too Much Information situation. (Mr. Niebla’s explanation: I’m eccentric!) Taichi’s hair seems to have changed a little, but it still is remarkable ridiculous.

Upon arriving, Taichi told the press that he plans on being in Mexico five months or so. Two years, five months, we’ve definitely established Taichi will be in Mexico for a period of time that is longer than a day and shorter than a century.

CMLL (TUE) 02/16 Arena Mexico [CMLL]
1) Disturbio & Semental b Camaleón & Robin Hood Jr.
2) Bronco, Durango Kid, Inquisidor b Horus, Metatrón, Trueno
3) Fuego, Molotov, Sensei DQ Nosferatu, Pólvora, Raziel
4) Ephesto, Terrible, Texano Jr. b Blue Panther, Toscano, Valiente
5) Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero b Brazo de Plata, La Sombra, Shocker

Rey Bucanero pinned Shocker, and the CMLL recap says they’re close to a hair match. What? Record says Rey had the ropes.

Toscano pinned Terrible to win the semimain, which surely means CMLL should’ve sent Toscano & Valiente after those tag team titles. Or, jet lag sucks. Rudos actually won this, fixed the result

Tecnicos won the tercera in straight falls, Nosferatu pulling Fuego’s mask in the second. Hmmm.

“Robin” is Robin Hood Jr., as introduced on Ras de Lona a while back.

AAA announced they’ll be returning to Gimnasio Juan de la Barrera in Mexico City, site of many an 90s AAA TV taping, on 03/19 for a special show, “which major surprises planned.” (I think that means TV taping) March 19th is also probably the night of CMLL’s Dos Leyendas, so it’ll be quite a heads up battle.

Today in Mistico stories, Ovaciones interviews fans about Mistico. All quoted are disappointed in Mistico for his behavior, one suggesting Mistico may have kept the light heavyweight belt to sell it on the street. Also, Shocker, Sombra, and Sagrado have turned their back on Mistico for not giving the title back.  Averno and crew are the only ones who think highly of Mistico’s actions, but they don’t consider him a true rudo or member of their group either.

El Occidental says Arena Coliseo Guadalajara had a sell out for Sunday’s Mistico/Volador match. Meanwhile, Mistico is a wanted man.

Tickets go on sale this afternoon for the AAA TV taping in Toluca, with Mesias, Chessman and Laredo signing autographs.

Damian 666 talks about working in New York this weekend. He appears to be referring to these shows from Valiente Entertainment, who really ought to make their myspace photos public. Cassandro, Super Parka and Magno are also visible (though this was the group that promised Cassandro last time and didn’t have him), and Damian hope to talk the promoter into using more Perros del Mal talent (Mr. Aguila, Super Nova, Turbo, Leo) on future shows.

Cesar points out there is really no CMLL or AAA/TNA deal if all it is a couple people of minor important who happen to work in both places.

The Gladiatores has video interviews with el Angel, Kato Kung Lee, and the EAW promoters.

Cronicas Y Leyendas looks back at WWF coming to AAA, and Emilio Charles Jr. taking Miguel Perez’s hair.

Ohtani’s Jacket reviews matches from AULL, IWRG, and other locales! Maybe there should be a Tapatia award for best cameraman.

Lineup

CMLL (TUE) 02/23 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) El Divino vs Meteoro
2) Nube Roja & Saturno vs Acertijo & Ebola
3) Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno vs Ángel del Mal & Ráfaga
4) Stuka Jr. & Valiente vs Dragon Rojo Jr. & Misterioso II
5) Hijo del Fantasma, La Sombra, Sagrado vs Felino, Máximo, Mr. Niebla

So maybe Maximo is going rudo?

top 6 stories for the last two weeks

  1. Mistico turned rudo (at least where Volador was involved), still got beat by Volador two straight weeks. As easy a pick for #1 as there is. Crowds have picked up in response to this feud – maybe 60% and 70% attendance the last two Friday nights, and a much higher than usual attendance for their Guadalajara match. Both matches have been well received. It’s not clear what’s next, but it is clear that Mistico has a great evil laugh.
  2. Atlantis & Mascara Dorada, representing Guadalajara schools, won the National Parajes Increidble tournament over Negro Casas & La Mascara. The winners got a trophy, and maybe a paid vacation given how little they’ve been around since there. The tournament seems to have been a success.
  3. Over the course of a couple TV tapings, Electro Shock seems to have added himself to Latin Lover/Mesias the Rey de Reyes main event, picking up main event wins and demanding to be included. It’s still not official, but it seems like a metter of time. Electroshock seems to have broken away from the WagnerManiacos, though he still is booked with them.
  4. Other Rey de Reyes matches appear to be Alex Koslov vs Xtreme Tiger for the Cruiserweight Title and Cibernetico vs Konnan, both essentially rematches from the last major show.
  5. Lasser Boy, the new star from AAA’s new movie, made his debut. It was edited down into a short segment on TV.
  6. Black Warrior (and Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr.) has been advertised for AAA shows later this month, though he hasn’t turned up in AAA itself.

Other news

  • Negro Casas defeated Hijo del Fantasma to win the CMLL Middleweight Title
  • Terrible & Texano did not win the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team titles
  • Gringo Loco took Black Terry’s hair in IWRG
  • a second Felino appeared to help the original one beat Sombra. This wasn’t explained, but guess who have a rematch this Friday…
