CMLL on Fox Sports #172 (11/21/2009)

Bracito de Oro, Pequeño Olímpico ©, Shockercito vs Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Universo 2000, Pequeño Violencia © – sure seems like there was some sort of mandate to cut these openers down to a minimum amount of time. They’ve never been long, but they’re super abbreviated in this stretch, and things are clearly going longer on the recent shows. Anyway, this match has 3 guys who are good, 1 guy who I’ve not yet decided on (Nitro) and 2 guys who appear to be here just to make up the numbers (Bracito and Universo.) This would’ve been an interesting tag team match.

Blue Panther, Héctor Garza, Shocker © vs Felino, Negro Casas ©, Ray Mendoza Jr. – thought this was going to be bad (the first fall backed that up), turned out to be just OK, I’ll take that as a victory. It is nice that, instead of continuing to repeat the same Garza shirt tossing, everyone’s making fun of it now. Garza got pinned on Friday while stripping up his shirt, so maybe it’s going away.

AAA on Televisa #921 (01/16)

first in a set of two best of and one TripleMania, apparently. I’m kinda okay with only having to spend 20 minutes on this show until sometime after the Super Bowl.

It seemed as if they were just going to sanely air the clips in order, but then they started to bounce all over the place. I have no idea why they’d show a finish from the Chilpancigo taping; there’s plenty of other Psycho Circus wins from 2009 to show, maybe you don’t want to give away the finish of a show three weeks from now? Profoundly weird.

Mexico, Perros, IWRG, Sexi on Fabi’s hair cut

CMLL (SUN) 01/17 Arena Mexico [Ovaciones (PDF), ESTO]
1) Principe & Trueno b Cholo & Disturbio
2) Delta, Leono, Metatrón DQ Apocalipsis, Durango Kid, Inquisidor
3) Ángel de Oro, Pegasso, Rey Cometa b Dr. X, Hooligan, Loco Max
4) Averno, Mephisto, Negro Casas b Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara, Sagrado
5) Héctor Garza, Místico, Shocker b Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero

Garza pinned Ultimo Guerrero again, to set up Friday’s title match. Averno & Mephisto replaced Felino & Naito, and ESTO and Ovaciones actually differ on the result. No word on the DQ in the segunda.

Perros (SUN) 01/17 Arena Lopez Mateos [Estrellas del Ring]
1) Skayde Jr. b Carta Brava Jr.
2) Cósmico b Mini Talisman
3) Rey Krimen, Sepulturero I, Terry 2000 b Iron Love, Robin Maravilla, Sadico
4) Celestial & Turbo b Black Thunder & Mr. Aguilita
5) Veneno & X-Fly b el Ángel & Nova
6) Damián 666, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Halloween b Charly Manson, Groon XXX, Oriental

X-Fly was all over the top two matches, pulling Nova’s mask before pinning him, and costing Charly the main event. Skayde Jr.’s gear looks neat.

IWRG (SUN) 01/17 Arena Naucalpan [Estrellas del Ring]
1) Keshin Black b Ángel de la Noche
2) Dinamic Black & Guizmo b Comando Negro & Guerrero 2000
3) Chico Che, Eragon, Ultramán Jr. b Alan Extreme, Hijo del Signo, Trauma II
4) El Hijo del Diablo & Gringo Loco b Black Terry & Dr. Cerebro
5) Negro Navarro & Trauma I b Canek & el Hijo del Canek and Hijo del Pantera & Pantera and Olímpico & Suicida [IWRG IC TAG, semifinal]

Suicida is not Olimpico’s son (that would be odd), but Exodia was hurt. Negro got Canek in the end, with some help from Trauma I.

None of the undercard matches the poster they had for this show. Oh well. Semimain was a bloody war, Diablo fouling Dr. Cerebro for the win.

Ovaciones also has a Sexi Star interview, where she accuses Fabi Apache of not actually shaving her head. Perish the thought. Astounding they’d bring that up, unless they figure everyone knows – nah – or they were going to do something about it – also nah. Probably just Sexi Star being Sexi Star. Sexi Star notes Fabi brags about training and wrestling in Japan, which proves Sexi Star is the true Mexican hero and Fabi is just a lowly poor Indian.

This month’s Record has a fan vote of the top 100 masks ever, and Dos Caras was voted #1. It’s a fine mask, but I would not have gone that way. Inside, there’s an interview with Lluvia, hanging out an internet cafe, which predictably moves her up.

Latin Lover is in talks to join a Televisa telenovela, but is not sure he wants to work six days a week.

Cibernetico appears on Te Das or Te Rindes on Tuesday.

Camaleon de Oro kept his mask over King Azteca in Tijuana on Saturday.

Molotov, Sensei, Starman vs Bronco, Dr. X, Nitro – better than some of the other openers here, but nothing great. I understand the Tuareg’s master plan – wait until the kids get moved up, and then start to dominate over the remaining vets. Crafty!

Brazo de Plata, Shocker, Toscano vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Ray Mendoza Jr., Rey Bucanero – at this point, Toscano has been on 5 of the last 6 weeks. This week, I started to feel sorry for the announcers, who have to do that silly 30 second bio of him every week and don’t have much left to work with. This was a Brazo de Plata match, you may have seen one in the last score of years.

01/15 – 16 lucha videos

Multiupload

  • 01/16 CMLL 52MX – like the last tournament, the match before the final was better than the final
  • 01/16 AAA – TripleMania recap
  • 01/16 ACM – Medico Infernal vs Chica de Arabia
  • 01/15 WWC ; there’s interest in the Sunday show over on DVDMB, so I’ll try to get that starting next week

100% Lucha was listed on the schedule grid but did not air. Same thing for ECLL lucha, which may have gone the way of the AYM Sports lucha shows. LATV was a rerun, of course.

RadioFormula has 01/16 GDL.

WarriorX2000 has posted 01/08 CMLL (last best of) and 01/09 AAA (part 3 of best of).
