Mexico, AAA taping, 2009 awards, lineups

CMLL (FRI) 01/01 Arena Mexico [Cesar]
1) Guerrero Maya Jr. & Starman b Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Arkangel de la Muerte, Loco Max, Skándalo b Ángel Azteca Jr., Ángel de Oro, Ángel de Plata
3) Hiroka b Marcela [lightning]
4) Máximo, Metro, Stuka Jr. b Euforia, Pólvora, Virus
5) La Máscara, Sagrado, Toscano b Dragon Rojo Jr., Rey Bucanero, Sangre Azteca
6) Brazo de Plata, Máscara Dorada, Místico b Mephisto, Terrible, Texano Jr.

Mephisto tried a crucifix powerbomb on Mistico, Mistico reversed it to a ‘rana. (Same finish as the Sin Salida tag title match.)

Hiroka pinned Marcela with her feet on the ropes. Skandalo yanked Oro’s mask and pinned him for a straight fall win.

Cesar says it was a pretty strong turnout.

AAA says the first taping of the year will be on 01/17 in Ecatepec and hypes up Mesias in Puerto Rico.

Fuego en el Ring picks it’s best wrestlers of 2009 and the important wrestlers of Guadalajara. Notimex picks Volador & Sombra as tag team of the year. ESTO notes it’s fan polls picked Rey Misterio & WWE as wrestler and promotion of the year. Mistico and CMLL came in second in both, AAA and Mesias came in 5th and 3rd.

DJ Spectro looks back at Ultraman & Shazam vs America Salvaje & Villano III in a relevos suicidas .

No lineups yet. I’ll update with them later.

CMLL (WED) 01/06 Arena Coliseo
1) Bengala & Principe vs Disturbio & Ramstein
2) Molotov, Sensei, Trueno vs Apocalipsis, Artillero, Súper Comando
3) Ángel de Plata, Delta, Fuego vs Dr. X, Nitro, Pólvora
4) Máscara Dorada, Metro, Stuka Jr. vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca [MEX TRIOS]
5) Brazo de Plata, La Máscara, Místico vs Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero

Special day for this show. This looks like pretty fun, with young guys working a little higher than normal (or Delta’s making some incredible progress.) Don’t like the Guerreros odds on this day.

CMLL (FRI) 01/08 Arena Mexico
1) Diamante & Starman vs Durango Kid & Inquisidor
2) Astral, Eléctrico, Tzuki vs Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Violencia, Pierrothito
3) Ángel Azteca Jr. vs Loco Max [lightning]
4) La Máscara, Stuka Jr., Valiente vs Averno, Ephesto, Virus
5) Shocker, Toscano, Volador Jr. vs Naito, Ray Mendoza Jr., Shigeo Okumura
6) Héctor Garza, Místico, Strong Man vs Mr. Niebla, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero

Naito! Even though No Limit said they’d like to go back to Japan in their return to NJPW, I was just assuming that was one of things people say. There’s a couple weeks between shows (and then another week before their tour), so Naito does have some time to kill. Maybe he had a month extra on his lease, because CMLL doesn’t hint at actually doing anything with him.

CMLL (SUN) 01/10 Arena Coliseo
1) Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío II vs Cholo & Disturbio
2) Fabián el Gitano, Leono, Tony Rivera vs Bronco, Puma King, Tiger Kid
3) Ángel Azteca Jr., Pegasso, Rey Cometa vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Hooligan, Skándalo
4) Hijo del Fantasma, Máximo, Sagrado vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Naito, Sangre Azteca
5) Blue Panther, Místico, Strong Man vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto

A show. They never did add that Felino/Dorada match to this Sunday’s show, and there’s no sign of that feud anywhere else, so perhaps it was just a usual random challenge never meant to go anywhere.

There’s no sign of anything strikingly new on these 2010 cards. Young guys are moving up, but it’s been that way for a while.

    HE’S BACK! :D

I know the winter season is usually quiet but CMLL better start something up soon b/c the backlash will come quick if all 3 finishes this week are Mistico w/ La Mistica. Also, that’s some pretty rough travel for Ultimo Guerrero.

Looking forward to C3 next week, hopefully a tape of TDN for the Tzuki match and next Saturday for that excellent 4th match on Friday!

I’m happy Naito is back w/ no Yujiro. Naito always seemed more excited to be in Mexico.

  2. I want to know how you had time to read this when Toronto had the epic International Bowl taking place. I assumed the metro area was shut down to see Northern Illinois & South Florida do battle on a football field.

  3. @thecubsfan: HA! I was offered tix to go and passed on those like 2 weeks ago. I prefer sports on ice and at night.

I wonder what the attendance will be like since we have a ‘cold weather alert’ today although when I joked about the bad turnout to co-workers who were going they said the yearly bowl game in T.O. usually doesn’t draw too bad.

  4. ByL post says:

    “segun mi receptor de sky

la transmicion va a empezar a la 5 pm hasta las 7 pm
y ps de ahy le cambiamos a cadena 3”

Not clear exactly on what he’s trying to say but maybe the regular CMLL show is airing in a few minutes and 5-7 = the Anniversary?

  5. Something related to CMLL is on now. Have no clue what… looks like the Anniversary fourth match.

  6. “Game attendance wasn’t immediately available but it was well short of the 40,184 that watched UConn beat Buffalo 38-20 in last year’s game.”

  7. Had to give up on XEJ. Feed kept pausing every 15-20 seconds. I assume it’ll hit youtube though.

Your best bet for today if you are starved for Lucha Libre: BlackTerryJr’s youtube channel. Almost has all the matches uploaded from last night’s IWRG Gran Alternativa tournament. See if you can figure out if Mascara Magnifica and Guerrero 2000 are the same person!

  8. 52MX has
Dr. X, Hooligan, Nitro b Diamante, Fabián el Gitano, Leono
Máscara Dorada, Místico, Toscano DQ Felino, Terrible, Texano Jr.

Best of show wins just for the Yack walking around the castle vignettte.

  9. They left in Felino challenging Dorada to a match. There’s at least a 45% chance CMLL does that match tomorrow without promoting it.

  10. For anyone trying to watch C3, I just noticed my recording died at some point during the second first round match and the WMP link is now down but the RealPlayer feed is shockingly up and looking better than ever.

  11. Boy that tecs vs tecs match with the flyers couldn’t have been worse. How they only give those guys 5 minutes and don’t let Cometa do anything is beyond me but I guess we need to save time for Leono to wrestle twice.

  12. Furor vs Voltaje Negro might be a worst match of the year canidate from Arena Coliseo Monterrey.Voltaje is just god awful and the work makes DTU look like AAA 1993. It featured Staple shots, Both guys trying to staple a Popcorn bag to each others arms and failing, A nail baseball bat with no blood and the finish was a Spanish Fly from the ring apron to the floor and they botched it bad. AAA should hire Voltaje and have Mesias squash him since he looks identical to Carlito. Hell RFC even played Carlito’s theme during the match.
